Solitary Plasmacytoma is characterized by a mass of neoplastic monoclonal plasma cells in either bone or soft tissue without evidence of systemic disease attributing to myeloma. Solitary bony plasmacytoma commonly presents in the axial skeleton. The occurrence of solitary bony plasmacytoma in young individuals is exceedingly rare but has been reported sporadically. We report a case of Solitary bony plasmacytoma involving the calcaneum (appendicular skeleton) in a 26-year-old male with a prior history of trauma at the same site. To our knowledge, this is one of the few cases of solitary bony plasmacytoma in the calcaneum being reported. Our patient presents with some unusual features like the unusual site of the lesion (calcaneum), presentation at a young age and the disease being symptomatic following trauma. It usually stays in the intestinal lumen and occasionally migrates into the biliary tract through ampulla of Vater .Biliary ascariasis is a critical complication of intestinal ascariasis with life-threatening manifestations .We report a case of a-38 year-old lady who presented with colicky type epigastric pain radiating to back with diffuse tenderness over abdomen on examination. Ultrasonography abdomen showed linear echogenic structure in common bile duct .Biliary ascariasis was noted on Endoscopic Retrograde CholangioPancreaticography following which extraction was done .Our report highlights the varied clinical features of biliary ascariasis. The aim of the study is to find the presence of satisfaction among in-ward patients of five major wards at a tertiary care hospital regarding the quality of care provided by nursing staff. METHODS A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among 105 patients of Patan Hospital from 3rd July to 3rd August, 2015 after obtaining ethical clearance from Institutional Review Committee. Sample size was calculated and stratified random sampling was done. Data was collected in Microsoft Excel and analyzed in Sta 13.0. Point estimate at 95% Confidence Interval was calculated and frequency and percentage was calculated for binary data. Subgroup analysis was done on the basis of demographic variables. RESULTS Among 105 patients, 99 (94.3%) [94.93-95.07 at 95%CI] were satisfied with the nursing care provided at a tertiary care center in Nepal. Among them, 60 (60.6%) were females and 39 (39.4%) were males. Age of the patients ranged from 1 year to 85 years. The length of the stay in the hospital ranged from 2 to 17 days (mean = 5.6 days). CONCLUSIONS Most of the patients were satisfied with the nursing care provided in a tertiary care centre. Routine nursing care surveys and immediate feedbacks would keep the authorities updated and deliver good health care.INTRODUCTION Placenta is an organ that connects the developing fetus to the uterine wall to allow nutrient uptake, provide thermo-regulation to the fetus, waste elimination, and gas exchange. The present study was undertaken to look for mean birth weight and placental weight among deliveries in a tertiary care hospital. METHODS A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in a tertiary hospital of Nepal. Ethical clearance was taken from institutional review comittee of hospital. Mothers with term and preterm gestation, their infants and the placentas were the subjects for the study. The study was conducted on 158 term and preterm deliveries. Placental weight, birth weight, gestational age, neonates' gender, weight, length and head circumference were recorded. RESULTS The mean of weight of total 158 placentas was 449.24±82.07 g and the mean of birth weights was 2872.84±478.88 g. Out of 158 deliveries, 138 (87.4%) babies were of term gestation and 20 (12.6%) babies were preterm. CONCLUSIONS Mean birth weight and placental weights are similar to that found on similar studies done on other hospitals. Knowing the mean placental weight and birth weight which relates to different functional dimensions of placenta and baby growth helps for further evaluation of placenta and baby.INTRODUCTION Family medicine is a relatively overlooked specialty in Nepalese medical education. It is unclear how many interns are actually interested in Family medicine as a career and how many non-medical individuals are aware of its existence.
