This work highlights promising applications of ultra-small 2D PbS NPLs with the potential for breakthrough developments also in other fields of optoelectronic devices.Lesions involving the osteochondral unit are difficult to treat. Biomimetic scaffolds are previously shown as promising alternative. Such devices often lack multiple functional layers that mimic bone, cartilage, and the interface. In this study, multilayered scaffolds are developed based on the use of natural extracellular matrix (ECM)-like biopolymers. Particular attention is paid to obtain a complex matrix that mimics the native osteochondral transition. Porous, sponge-like chitosan-collagen-octacalcium phosphate (OCP) scaffolds are obtained. Collagen content increases while the amount of OCP particles decreases toward the cartilage layer. The scaffolds are bioactive as a mineral layer is deposited containing hydroxyapatite at the bony side. The scaffolds stimulate proliferation of human adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells, but the degree of proliferation depends on the cell seeding density. The scaffolds give rise to a zone-specific gene expression. RUNX2, COL1A1, BGLAP, and SPP1 are upregulated in the bony layer of the scaffold. SOX9 is upregulated concomitant with COL2A1 expression in the cartilage zone. Mineralization in presence of the cells is prominent in the bone area with Ca and P steadily increasing over time. These results are encouraging for the fabrication of biomimetic scaffolds using ECM-like materials and featuring gradients that mimic native tissues and their interface.Targeted synergistic therapy has broad prospects in tumor treatments. Here, a multi-functional nanodrug GDYO-CDDP/DOX@DSPE-PEG-MTX (GCDM) based on three traditional anticancer drugs (doxorubicin (DOX), cisplatin (CDDP) and methotrexate (MTX)) modified graphdiyne oxide (GDYO) is described, for diagnosis and targeted cancer photo-chemo synergetic therapy. In this system, for the first time, these three traditional anti-cancer drugs have played new roles and can reduce multidrug resistance through synergistic anti-tumor effects. Cisplatin can be hybridized with GDYO to form a multifunctional and well-dispersed three-dimensional framework, which can not only be used as nano-drug carriers to achieve high drug loading rates (40.3%), but also exhibit excellent photothermal conversion efficiency (47%) and good photodynamic effects under NIR irradiation. Doxorubicin (DOX) is loaded onto GDYO-CDDP through π-π stacking, which is used as an anticancer drug and as a fluorescent probe for nanodrug detection. Methotrexate (MTX) can be applied in tumor targeting and play a role in synergistic chemotherapy with DOX and CDDP. The synthesized multi-functional nanodrug GCDM has good biocompatibility, active targeting, long-term retention, sustained drug release, excellent fluorescence imaging capabilities, and remarkable photo-chemo synergistic therapeutic effects.

To explore the relationship between demographic factors, acute coronary syndrome-related factors, perceived control and health-related quality of life during admission, 3 months and 6 months after discharge, in patients with acute coronary syndrome.

Participants were recruited for this longitudinal study after admission for acute coronary syndrome in three university hospitals in the Tokyo metropolitan area, Japan. Self-administered questionnaires included demographic data, perceived control, health-related quality of life, acute coronary syndrome symptoms, fatigue, depression and anxiety.

Participants (N = 137) had an average age of 62.8 (SD 11.6) years and 80.3% were male. As a result of Path analysis, higher perceived control (β = 0.258, p = .001), lower anxiety (β = -0.226, p = .009) and lower fatigue (β = -0.231, p = .010), were significantly related to better health-related quality of life (General health). Only annual income was significantly related to perceived control (β = 0.187, p = .029). Eighty-two (59.9%) participants at 3 months and 54 (39.4%) participants at 6 months completed the questionnaires. Perceived control (F = 7.074, p = .001) and General health (χ

= 10.22, p = .006) significantly increased over the 6 months. Perceived control during admission was significantly related with health-related quality of life at 3 months. buy PD173212 Perceived control at 3 months was significantly related with health-related quality of life at 6 months.

Perceived control was an important factor for health-related quality of life of the Japanese patients with acute coronary syndrome. It is necessary to investigate whether nursing interventions to enhance perceived control lead to improvement of health-related quality of life.

However, it is hard to find an appropriate disintegration mode for encapsulation to balance the survival, release, and adhesion of probiotics simultaneously during the current colon-targeted oral delivery, which leads to limited colonization. In this study, an enzyme-triggered fuse-like microcapsule is constructed using alginate and protamine via the electrostatic droplet combined with the layer by layer self-assembly. The multilayer microcapsule can protect the probiotics in the stomach and disintegrate layer by layer under the catalysis of trypsin in the intestine. The formulation with two protamine layers showed the best protection for Escherichia coli MG1655 (EM) during the oral delivery; as well the minimal release at the gastric pH value but a burst release after 1 h at the intestinal pH value. In particular, the adhesion strength of EM is improved with the increase of the layer number. In vivo experiments demonstrate that the EM enters into the stationary phase within 12 h in the colon. Moreover, the blood biochemistry and histological analysis demonstrates the safety of the microcapsule formulation. It can be concluded that this microcapsule can help the probiotics survive during the delivery, then release and colonize in the colon.
