These findings support the potential for development of TMS measures as prognostic markers or therapeutic targets in early-stage symptomatic AD.Medical devices are widely used in modern medicine, but their utilities are often limited by the biofilm formation of bacteria that are tolerant to most antibiotics. In this report, antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) were coated onto biomaterials by the aid of surfactant through hydrophobic interactions. To increase the coating efficiency, stability of AMPs in body fluids and spectrum of antimicrobial activity, pairs of AMPs were coated simultaneously onto various substrates, such as silicone, polyurethane and titanium, which are commonly used components of biomedical devices. These coated AMPs exhibited very low cytotoxicity and hemolytic activities because they were gradually released into urine or serum. The AMP pairs, such as T9W + SAAP159 and T9W + RRIKA, coated onto the silicone discs were able to inhibit in vitro bacterial adherence in urine. Most importantly, AMP pairs coated onto the silicone tubing by surfactant SDBS could prevent bacterial adherence to mouse bladder and the silicone tubing implanted within it. These results provide a promising approach towards circumventing urinary catheter-associated infections caused by bacterial adherence. Here we present an investigation of a plutonium-beryllium neutron source available at the Horia Hulubei National Institute of Physics and Nuclear Engineering, Romania, to be used for detector characterization during the implementation of the Extreme Light Infrastructure - Nuclear Physics project. Using several different techniques and instruments, we have measured the isotopic composition for plutonium to be 75% 239Pu and 24% 240Pu, with a minor contribution from other isotopes. Furthermore, we have measured the source activity as of November 20th 2019 to be 2.220(5)×105 neutrons per second with a mean energy of 3.25(17) MeV. We have also measured both the γ-tagged and full neutron energy spectra, and discuss the origin of the observed structure in the neutron energies based on these. All these parameters are of importance both for traceability of nuclear material, radioprotection, and accurate detector characterization. The highly ordered cortical microtubule lattice of skeletal muscle is disorganized in dystrophin-deficient mdx mice. Implicated mechanisms include loss of dystrophin binding, altered α-tubulin posttranslational modification, expression of a β-tubulin involved in regeneration, and reactive oxygen species (ROS). Here we show that the transverse microtubules in mdx muscle expressing miniaturized dystrophins are rapidly lost after eccentric contraction. Analysis of mdx lines expressing different dystrophin constructs demonstrate that spectrin-like repeats R4-15 and R20-23 were required for mechanically stable microtubules. Microtubule loss was prevented by the non-specific antioxidant N-acetylcysteine while inhibition of NADPH oxidase 2 had only a partial effect, suggesting that ROS from multiple sources mediate the rapid loss of transverse microtubules after eccentric contraction. Finally, ablation of α-dystrobrevin, β- or γ-cytoplasmic actin phenocopied the transverse microtubule instability of miniaturized dystrophins. Our data demonstrate that multiple dystrophin domains, α-dystrobrevin and cytoplasmic actins are necessary for mechanically stable microtubules.Matcha and green tea catechins such as (-)-epicatechin (EC), (-)-epigallocatechin (EGC) and (-)-epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) have long been studied for their antioxidant and health-promoting effects. Using specific fluorophores for H2S (AzMC) and polysulfides (SSP4) as well as IC-MS and UPLC-MS/MS-based techniques we here show that popular Japanese and Chinese green teas and select catechins all catalytically oxidize hydrogen sulfide (H2S) to polysulfides with the potency of EGC > EGCG > EG. This reaction is accompanied by the formation of sulfite, thiosulfate and sulfate, consumes oxygen and is partially inhibited by the superoxide scavenger, tempol, and superoxide dismutase but not mannitol, trolox, DMPO, or the iron chelator, desferrioxamine. We propose that the reaction proceeds via a one-electron autoxidation process during which one of the OH-groups of the catechin B-ring is autooxidized to a semiquinone radical and oxygen is reduced to superoxide, either of which can then oxidize HS- to thiyl radicals (HS•) which react to form hydrogen persulfide (H2S2). H2S oxidation reduces the B-ring back to the hydroquinone for recycling while the superoxide is reduced to hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). Matcha and catechins also concentration-dependently and rapidly produce polysulfides in HEK293 cells with the potency order EGCG > EGC > EG, an EGCG threshold of ~300 nM, and an EC50 of ~3 μM, suggesting green tea also acts as powerful pro-oxidant in vivo. The resultant polysulfides formed are not only potent antioxidants, but elicit a cascade of secondary cytoprotective effects, and we propose that many of the health benefits of green tea are mediated through these reactions. PF-07220060 Remarkably, all green tea leaves constitutively contain small amounts of H2S2.

The objective of this study was to determine the internal reliability and construct validity of the Multiple Sclerosis Resiliency Scale (MSRS) in comparison with a common measure of global resilience.

Participants were 216 community-dwelling adults with MS (mean age 48.8±12.5years; 77% female; median disease duration 8years) recruited through a university-affiliated MS Center. Participants completed the MSRS, 10-item Connor Davidson Resilience Scale (CDRS), Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), and depressive and anxious symptom items from the SymptoMScreen.

The MSRS exhibited fair to excellent internal consistency (αs 0.74 to 0.91) and divergent validity with disability severity (r=-0.19), MS duration (r=0.07), and MS subtype (r=-0.01). The MSRS total and Emotional and Cognitive Strategies subscale scores were moderately correlated with the CDRS (rs=0.50 and 0.62), PSS (rs=-0.56 and-0.62), depressive symptoms (rs=-0.49 and-0.54), and anxious symptoms (rs=-0.38 and-0.047). The MSRS total and Emotional and Cognitive Strategies subscale scores exhibited fair to good accuracy (AUCs=0.
