Cervical cancer is one of the common malignancies that afflict women worldwide. In rare cases, cervical cancer leads to ovarian metastasis (OM), resulting in poor outcomes. selleck chemicals llc We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the incidence and risk factors of OM in patients with adenocarcinoma (ADC) or squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the cervix.
We searched articles focused on OM in cervical carcinoma in PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials. A meta-analysis was performed including selected publications. Pooled odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (95% CI) were calculated using random-effects models. The heterogeneity was evaluated by the I test. I > 50% was considered high heterogeneity.
A total of 12 studies with 18,389 patients with cervical cancer in International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics stages IA to IIB were included in the meta-analysis. The overall incidence of OM was 3.61% among patients with ADC and 1.46% among patients with SCC (ADC vs SCC OR 3.89, 95% CI 2.62-5.78; P < .001). Risk factors for OM were age >40 years (OR 1.79, 95% CI 1.02-3.13), bulky tumor (OR 2.65, 95% CI 1.77-3.95), pelvic lymph node involvement (PLNI; OR 9.33, 95% CI 6.34-13.73), lymphovascular space involvement (LVSI; OR 4.38, 95% CI 1.86-10.31), parametrial invasion (PMI; OR 7.87, 95% CI 5.01-12.36), and corpus uteri invasion (CUI; OR 7.64, 95% CI 2.51-23.24). PLNI, LVSI, and PMI were the leading risk factors, contributing to OM with respective population attributable fractions of 64.8%, 58.8%, and 51.5%.

A large number of patients with diabetic kidney disease (DKD) approach traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) owing to discontent with standard treatments. Based on TCM theory and clinical experience, the syndrome of kidney yin deficiency is a common type of DKD. Liuwei Dihuang pills (LDPs) is a common prescription of a Chinese herbal formula for patients presenting this syndrome of DKD. However, well-established data supporting the efficacy and safety of LDP in DKD treatment are lacking.
We have designed a double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized trial. After a 2-week run-in period, 124 eligible participants with DKD will be assigned to either the experimental or the control group in a 11 ratio. Patients in the experimental group will receive LDP, while patients in the control group will receive a matched placebo. As the basic treatment in the 2 groups, metformin hydrochloride sustained-release tablets, for blood glucose control, and irbesartan tablets, for blood pressure regulation, will be provided. All participants will undergo 4 weeks of treatment and 12 weeks of follow-up. The primary outcome is the change in 24 hours urinary protein levels, measured from the baseline to the end of the treatment phase (week 24). The secondary outcomes to be assessed include the change in serum creatinine and estimated glomerular filtration rate, urinary albumin excretion rate, improvement of TCM syndromes and symptoms, fasting blood glucose and postprandial 2-hour blood glucose, blood lipids (total cholesterol, triglyceride, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, from baseline to weeks 12 and 24.

We performed Sanger sequencing on this patient and confirmed the heterozygous missing insertion mutation in the patient. This is a novel mutation. The variant was heterozygous and categorized as pathogenic.

Research reported that Chinese traditional medicine injections were used in patients with COVID-19 infection and showed significant effects, and there have been no systematic review and meta-analyses to investigate the effects and safety of Chinese traditional medicine injections.
This systematic review and meta-analysis protocol is based on the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis Protocols 2015 statement. The literature search will involve Cochran library, Web of science, PubMed, MEDLINE, Embase, China Biology Medicine Database, China National Knowledge Infrastructure Database, VIP, Wang Fang database, and China Clinical Trial Registration Center for articles and research published form December 2019. This search will include randomized controlled trials and nonrandomized studies. The Cochrane Collaboration's tool for randomized controlled trial studies and the Quality Assessment Tool for Quantitative Studies for nonrandomized studies will be used to assess the risk of bias among the studies included in the systematic review.
