Our patient was submitted to mastectomy with sentinel lymph node biopsy due to compromised radial margin.

Secretory breast carcinoma is a rare form of breast cancer, especially in male children; which hampers standardization of diagnosis, treatment and prognosis establishment.

Situs inversus abdominalis (SIA) is an uncommon condition that causes intestinal malrotation in the paediatric population as its primary complication (Brown, 2017). Presentations of acute surgical emergencies in adults secondary to SIA are extremely rare (Brown, 2017).

A 38-year-old female with situs inversus abdominalis (SIA) presented with small bowel obstruction (SBO). Sulfatinib The patient had a history of a paediatric omphalocele repair. The patient failed conservative management and required surgical intervention including a laparotomy and adhesiolysis without intestinal resection for resolution of her symptoms.

Only 2 cases of SBO secondary to SIA have been documented in the literature; both resulting in bowel resection with a 50 % mortality rate (Mallick, 2006). This is the third reported case and the only case to avoid bowel ischemia. We attribute this to early presentation by the patient, prompt imaging, careful surgical planning with consultant led surgical intervention and a multidisciplinary team approach to recovery.

Acute surgical emergencies in patients with congenital anomalies should have a low threshold for imaging and intervention with detailed pre-operative planning and a senior surgeon led approach.

The Canadian 24-Hour Movement Guidelines for Children and Youth recommend ≥60 min of physical activity per day, ≤2 h of recreational screen time per day, and 9-11 hours of sleep per night for 11-13 years old and 8-10 hours per night for 14-17 years old.

This study examined the association between combinations of these recommendations and school bullying and cyberbullying victimization and perpetration among adolescents.

A total of 5615 Canadian students (mean age = 15.2 years) who participated in the 2017 Ontario Student Drug Use and Health Survey (OSDUHS) self-reported their physical activity, screen time, sleep duration, and their involvement in bullying.

Logistic regression analyses were adjusted for important covariates.

Meeting the screen time recommendation alone was associated with lower odds of being a victim (OR 0.64; 95 % CI 0.46-0.88) or a bully (OR 0.64; 95 % CI 0.43-0.96) at school and a victim of cyberbullying (OR 0.67; 95 % CI 0.49-0.91). Meeting both the screen time and sleep duration recommendations was associated with lower odds of being a bully (OR 0.51; 95 % CI 0.30-0.88). Meeting all 3 recommendations showed stronger associations (i.e. lowest risk) with being a victim of school bullying (OR 0.32; 95 % CI 0.19-0.54), a bully-victim (OR 0.25; 95 % CI 0.08-0.78) or a victim of cyberbullying (OR 0.37; 95 % CI 0.17-0.84).

Our findings provide evidence that meeting the 24 -h movement guidelines is associated with lower odds of bullying involvement. Encouraging adherence to the 24 -h movement guidelines could be a good behavioural target to prevent involvement in both school bullying and cyberbullying.

We investigated subsurface denitrification characteristics in the vadose zone and shallow groundwater at four sites under pastoral farming in the Manawatū River catchment, located in the lower part of North Island, New Zealand. The denitrification potential of the vadose zone was determined by the laboratory incubation assays measuring the denitrifying enzyme activity (DEA) in soil samples collected from different soil horizons (up to 2.1 m below ground surface), whereas denitrification rates in shallow groundwaters were measured in situ by single-well, push-pull tests conducted in piezometers installed at multiple depths at the study sites. Soils and underlying geology, defining hydrogeologic settings, appear to influence the spatial variability of subsurface denitrification characteristics at the study sites. Where the vadose zone is thin and composed of coarse-textured soils, percolation of nitrate was evident in observed high nitrate-nitrogen concentrations (>5 mg L-1) in oxic and young shallow groundwaters, but low nitrate-nitrogen concentrations ( 5 mg L-1) found at the study sites. These contrasting subsurface denitrification characteristics determine the ultimate delivery of nitrate losses from agricultural soils to receiving waters, where the fine textured thick vadose zone and reducing groundwater conditions offer nitrate reduction in the subsurface environment.Oxidative therapy, a strategy that specifically increases reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels in tumor cells by disrupting the redox homeostasis has gained increasing interest. The antitumor effects of the natural product piperlongumine (PL) appear to result from its ability to increase intracellular ROS levels via inhibition of antioxidative thioredoxin reductase (TrxR). Twenty-seven benzylidenecyclohexenone-based PL analogues (2a-v and 15a-e) were designed, synthesized and evaluated for their pharmacological properties. Most of the compounds exhibited potent antiproliferative activities against five human cancer cell lines, especially against breast tumor cells. One of the most promising analogueues 2c showed 12-fold higher inhibitory activity against the thioredoxin reductase (TrxR) than PL and surpressed the expression of TrxR1 protein in breast cancer cells and inhibited TrxR enzymatic activity. In addition, 2c increased ROS levels and resulted in marked apoptosis by regulating apoptosis-related proteins expressed in the breast cancer cells.
