terature on changing palliative care practice for heart failure patients and the value of integrating different perspectives.

To describe nursing student self-esteem prior to the influence of nursing education and to explore the relationship between self-esteem and dropout.

Cohort study.

At the beginning of their first year of study, in October 2017, 464 nursing students completed a questionnaire that assessed their self-esteem level via Tafarodi & Swann Scale and self-esteem profile following Mruk's model, along with sociodemographic information, state anxiety, self-efficacy, intention to continue and social support. One year later, data on grades and re-enrolment were collected. Multivariate analyses explored the factors influencing self-esteem level (multiple regression), self-esteem profile (multinomial logistic regression) and dropout (binary logistic regression).

The mean level of self-esteem was 50.8 (9.0), scale of 16 to 80. Forty-nine per cent of self-esteem profiles were classified as 'high', 20.1% as 'defensive acceptance based', 11.2% as 'defensive achievement based' and 19.6% as 'low'. State anxiety (p<0.tudinal mixed methods approach. Society should value nurses and nursing students.

Given that association and the impact of self-esteem on well-being and professional behaviour, educational institutions should foster self-esteem both generally and in students with anxiety or low self-efficacy. Future research should explore nursing student self-esteem using a longitudinal mixed methods approach. Society should value nurses and nursing students.

Channelized Hotelling observer (CHO) models have been implemented to assess imaging performance in x-ray angiography systems. While current methods are appropriate for assessing unprocessed images of moving test objects upon uniform-exposure backgrounds, they are inadequate for assessing conditions which more appropriately mimic clinical imaging conditions including the combination of moving test objects, complex anthropomorphic backgrounds, and image processing. In support of this broad goal, the purpose of this work was to develop theory and methods to automatically select a subset of task-specific efficient Gabor channels from a task-generic Gabor channel base set. Also, previously described theory and methods to manage detectability index (d') bias due to nonrandom temporal variations in image electronic noise will be revisited herein.

Starting with a base set of 96 Gabor channels, backward elimination of channels was used to automatically identify an "efficient" channel subset which reduced the numbenitial channel base set without substantially compromising the magnitude of the d' estimate. Bias due to temporally variable nonstationary noise can be modeled through a bivariate approach leading to an improved unbiased estimate of d'.Carbohydrate-active enzymes are a group of important enzymes playing a critical role in the degradation and synthesis of carbohydrates. Glycosidases can hydrolyze glycosides into oligosaccharides, polysaccharides, and glycoconjugates via a cost-effective approach. Lactase is an important member of β-glycosidases found in higher plants, animals, and microorganisms. β-Galactosidases can be used to degrade the milk lactose for making lactose-free milk, which is sweeter than regular milk and is suitable for lactose-intolerant people. β-Galactosidase is employed by many food industries to degrade lactose and improve the digestibility, sweetness, solubility, and flavor of dairy products. β-Galactosidase enzymes have various families and are applied in the food-processing industries such as hydrolyzed-milk products, whey, and galactooligosaccharides. Thus, this enzyme is a valuable protein which is now produced by recombinant technology. In this review, origins, structure, recombinant production, and critical modifications of β-galactosidase for improving the production process are discussed. Since β-galactosidase is a valuable enzyme in industry and health care, a study of its various aspects is important in industrial biotechnology and applied biochemistry.Scarce and inconclusive evidence exists on the mental health consequences of the COVID-19 lockdown. This study examined the psychological impact of the lockdown in Greece, resilience levels, use of coping strategies, and identified high-risk groups. A sample of 1661 participants (mean age = 39.5, SD = 12.2; 75.5% females) completed a web-based survey, which was distributed through social networking sites, webpages, and personal contacts. Posttraumatic symptoms, posttraumatic growth, resilience, and coping strategies were assessed. Different population subgroups suffered the impact of lockdown disproportionately. Healthcare workers, females, younger, less educated, and those living alone reported higher rates of posttraumatic stress symptoms. Females achieved more posttraumatic growth and were using coping strategies more frequently than men. Men, older, healthcare workers, and those with a partner were more resilient. Copanlisib Interventions need to be developed to target personal resources, protect vulnerable populations, facilitate posttraumatic growth, and ameliorate wellbeing and quality of life.To treat intractable cases of autoimmune encephalitis, the need for novel immunotherapy that penetrates the blood-brain barrier (BBB) is increasing. Tofacitinib is a Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitor used to treat refractory immune-mediated diseases that effectively penetrates the BBB. Accordingly, tofacitinib could be a new option for patients with refractory autoimmune encephalitis. Patients treated with tofacitinib were selected from Seoul National University Hospital cohort for autoimmune encephalitis from April 2019 until July 2020. We retrospectively analyzed the efficacy of tofacitinib in patients with autoimmune encephalitis who showed insufficient responses to multimodal conventional immunotherapies. Tofacitinib was administered orally at a dose of 5 mg twice daily. A total of eight patients were treated with tofacitinib; two had good responses (clinical global impression-improvement score [CGI-I] = 1 or 2), three had partial responses (CGI-I = 3), and three showed no significant improvements (CGI-I = 4) in response to tofacitinib.
