Different expression patterns of TRP channels may have a role in pathogenesis of psoriasis.The Beliefs about Medicines Questionnaire (BMQ) and Adherence Starts with Knowledge (ASK-12) questionnaire were originally developed and validated in Western populations to assess beliefs and barriers to medication adherence. The study aim is to validate the BMQ and ASK-12 questionnaire for use in a Singapore population with early stage breast cancer. English-speaking women on adjuvant endocrine therapy (n = 157) were recruited. The BMQ-Specific showed good internal consistency with structural validity. The internal consistency of BMQ-General and ASK-12 Behaviour scale improved with the new factor structure obtained from exploratory factor analysis. Further studies are needed to confirm these factor structures.Purpose Previous studies have used subjective assessments to implicate darker skin color as a risk factor for glaucoma. This study used objective measurements to determine whether skin melanin is a risk factor for glaucoma.Methods In a case-control study conducted at a tertiary eye hospital in Nepal, patients aged 40 years or older from the glaucoma clinic were enrolled as cases and age-matched patients without glaucoma from other clinics at the eye hospital were enrolled as controls. A colorimeter was used to capture melanin measurements in triplicate from the inner arm and forehead of each participant. The exposure variable of interest was the median skin melanin value, in arbitrary units. The outcome of interest was the presence of glaucoma.Results 100 glaucoma cases and 100 matched controls were enrolled. learn more Agreement between the triplicate melanin measurements was high, with an intra-class correlation of 0.99 (95% CI, 0.99-0.99) for inner arm measurements and 0.97 (95% CI 0.96-0.98) for forehead measurements. Mean inner arm melanin values were 604 units (standard deviation [SD] 177) in cases and 602 units (SD 179) in controls; forehead values were 650 (SD 146) in cases and 652 (SD 152) in controls. This review scrutinizes the literature where red, blue, white, and green light (GL) act as sensory systems that affects physiological parameters in plants. Generally, white and RL are responsible for regulating various defense mechanisms, but, GL also participates in this process with a robust impact! In addition to this, we also focus on the activation of signaling pathways (salicylic acid and jasmonic acid) and their influence on plant immune systems against phytopathogen(s).Objective To assess homocysteine (Hcy) concentration in women with preeclampsia (PE).Methods Hcy concentrations were detected by ELISA in 305 pregnancies.Results Hcy concentration in patients with PE was 16.07 umol/L at 10-14 weeks as compared to 7.19 umol/L in normotensive pregnancies (p 9.55 umol/L with area under curve of 0.859, sensitivity of 91.67%, specificity of 72.24%.Conclusion Assessment of serum Hcy concentration may be used as a predictor of PE, with the highest diagnostic utility in the first trimester of pregnancy.
The common treatment for end-stage tarsometatarsal (TMT) arthritis is an arthrodesis of the affected joints. This study was performed to examine the clinical and radiographic outcome after TMT arthrodesis and to identify risk factors for postoperative complications.
A total of 101 patients with tarsometatarsal arthritis of at least 2 joints were retrospectively examined. Data were acquired using clinical and radiographic examination, pedobarographic analysis, and standardized questionnaires, including the European Foot and Ankle Society Score, the Foot and Ankle Outcome Score, a pain numeric rating scale (NRS), the 36-Item Short Form Health Survey, and the University of California at Los Angeles Activity (UCLA) Score. The fixation technique, any complications, and revision surgery were recorded.
All scores improved significantly, except for the UCLA Score. The mean pain NRS score was significantly reduced from 7.7 preoperative to 3.0 postoperative (
< .05). The overall nonunion rate was 12.6%. Compared with 2 crossed-screw fixation, locking plate plus compression screw fixation was associated with a decreased nonunion rate (odds ratio [OR] 0.165, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.032-0.854;
= .017). A body mass index >27 was significantly associated with a higher nonunion rate and wound healing problems (OR 12.05, 95% CI 1.430-101.468;
= .006; OR 5.03, 95% CI 1.273-19.871;
= .013). The overall reoperation rate was 25.2%.
TMT arthrodesis of the medial and central column resulted in significant improvement in foot function and pain. A major complication was nonunion. Locking plate plus compression screw fixation was associated with a lower nonunion rate.
