Furthermore, the increase in the CD8 percentage was inversely correlated with the reduction in pVL (r = -0.77, p = 0.0013).
Our study design precludes clinical efficacy inferences but the results implicate CCR5 as a therapeutic target for COVID-19 and they form the basis for ongoing randomized clinical trials.

Antibiotics are frequently prescribed for the treatment of acute lower respiratory infections (ALRI) in children ≤5 years of age, even though viral aetiologies are the most common. The aim of this study was to describe antibiotic prescribing rates and patterns in children ≤5 years of age hospitalized with ALRI.
A retrospective study was conducted involving patients aged 1 month to 5 years hospitalized with ALRI at a university hospital. Patient demographics, ALRI diagnosis, microbiological data, antibiotics prescribed, and treatment outcomes were recorded and analysed.
A total of 1283 patients were enrolled. Their median age was 1.6 years (interquartile range 0.8-2.8 years). Empagliflozin manufacturer Thirty-six percent had a co-morbidity. The diagnosis at discharge was viral ALRI in 81% and bacterial pneumonia in 19%. The mortality rate was 0.4%. The overall antibiotic prescribing rate was 46% (95% confidence interval 43-49%). Antibiotic prescribing rates were higher among children with co-morbidities (65% vs 35%, p < 0.001) and older children (57% for >2-5 years vs 39% for ≤2 years, p < 0.001). Parenteral third-generation cephalosporins were prescribed in up to 68% of all prescriptions.
Nearly-half of hospitalized children with ALRI were prescribed antibiotics. The majority of prescribed antibiotics were third-generation cephalosporins. An antimicrobial stewardship programme and antibiotic guidelines should be implemented to promote the judicious use of antibiotics.

Asthma is a costly global health problem that negatively influences the quality of life of patients. The Chinese Materia Medica (CMM) contains remedies that have been used for the treatment of asthma for millennia. This article strives to systematically summarize the current research progress so that more comprehensive examinations of various databases related to CMM anti-asthma drugs, can be performed, so as to sequentially provide effective basic data for development and application of anti-asthma drugs based on the CMM.
The research data published over the past 20 years for asthma treatment based on traditional CMM remedies were retrieved and collected from libraries and online databases (PubMed, ScienceDirect, Elsevier, Spring Link, Web of Science, PubChem Compound, Wan Fang, CNKI, Baidu, and Google Scholar). Information was also added from classic CMM, literature, conference papers on classic herbal formulae, and dissertations (PhD or Masters) based on traditional Chinese medicine.
This review systoretical basis of anti-asthma drugs for CMM and provided a theoretical basis for the application of a asthma treatment that is unique. By compiling these data, it is expected that the CMM will now contain a clearer mechanism of action and a greater amount of practical data that can be used for future anti-asthma drug research.Ethnopharmacological relevanceQuercetin is the active component of the higher content in PCP, which exerts various biological activities such as anti-obesity effect, anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant activities in alcoholic liver disease (ALD).
P2X7 receptor (P2X7R) plays an important role in health and disease, which can be activated by extracellular ATP to induce a variety of downstream events, including lipid metabolism, inflammatory molecule release, oxidative stress. However, whether the mechanism of quercetin on ethanol-induced hepatic steatosis via P2X7R-mediated haven't been elucidated.
Zebrafish transgenic (fabp10 EGFP) larvae were treated with 100μM, 50μM, 25μM quercetin for 48hat 3 days post fertilization (dpf), then soaked in 350mmol/L ethanol for 32h, treated with 1mM ATP (P2X7R activator) for 30min. Serum lipids, liver steatosis, oxidative stress factors were respectively detected. The mRNA levels in the related pathways were measured by quantitative Real-Time PCR (RT-qPCR) to investigate the mechanisms.
Quercetin improved the liver function via decreasing ALT, AST and γ-GT level of zebrafish with acute ethanol-induced hepatic steatosis and attenuated hepatic TG, TC accumulation. Additionally, quercetin significantly reduced the MDA content and suppressed the ethanol-induced reduction of hepatic oxidative stress biomarkers GSH, CAT and SOD and significantly down-regulated the expression of P2X7R, and up-regulated the expression of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K), Kelch like ECH associated protein1 (Keap1), Nuclear Factor E2 related factor 2 (Nrf2). Moreover, ATP stimulation activated P2X7R, which further mediated the mRNA expressions of PI3K, Keap1 and Nrf2.
Quercetin exhibited hepatoprotective capacity in zebrafish model, via regulating P2X7R-mediated PI3K/Keap1/Nrf2 oxidative stress signaling pathway.

G. pentaphyllum, also known as Jiao-Gu-Lan, has been used traditionally as folk remedies for many diseases, including diabetes mellitus, metabolic syndrome, aging, and neurodegenerative diseases in China and some countries in East and Southeast Asia. It is considered as an "immortality herb" in Guizhou Province, because it was consumed regularly by the elderly native inhabitants. Other species of the same genus Gynostemma such as G. longipes and G. laxum have been used as alternatives to G. pentaphyllum in ethno-medicine in Vietnam and other Asian countries.
The review aims to summarize up-to-date study results on Gynostemma species, including traditional usage, phytochemical profile, pharmacological activities, and toxicological studies, in order to suggest future research orientation and therapeutic applications on acute and chronic diseases.
The relevant literature on the genus Gynostemma was gathered from secondary databases (Web of Science and PubMed), books, and official websites. The latest literature cited in this review was published in February 2020.
