Only laboratory testing can verify that predicted high exportome membership probabilities are creditable exportome indicators. However, the presented methods at least provide those proteins most worthy of laboratory validation and will ultimately save time and money.Among the factors causing workers' anxiety, job-related factors are important since they can be managed. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the association between work-related anxiety and job-related factors among Korean wageworkers using data from the Fifth Korean Working Conditions Survey. Participants were 13,600 Korean wageworkers aged less then 65 years. We analyzed the association between job-related factors and work-related anxiety, and the moderating effect of decision-making authority. "Meeting precise quality standards," "Solving unforeseen problems on your own," "Complex tasks," "Learning new things," "Working at very high speed," and "Working to tight deadlines" were positively associated with work-related anxiety. "Monotonous tasks" was negatively associated with work-related anxiety. The odds ratio (OR) of "Complex tasks" was higher in the group that had insufficient decision-making authority (OR 3.92, 95% confidential interval (CI) 2.40-6.42) compared to that with sufficient decision-making authority (OR 2.74, 95% CI 1.61-4.67). The risk of work-related anxiety was higher when the workers experienced time pressure, carried out tasks with high mental and physical demands, and dealt with unpredictable situations. This association was more pronounced when decision-making authority was insufficient.
The prevalence of diabetic retinopathy (DR) is expected to increase. This will put an increasing strain on health care resources. Recently, artificial intelligence-based, autonomous DR screening systems have been developed. A direct comparison between different systems is often difficult and only two such comparisons have been published so far. As different screening solutions are now available commercially, with more in the pipeline, choosing a system is not a simple matter. Based on the images gathered in a local DR screening program we performed a retrospective comparison of IDx-DR and Retinalyze.
We chose a non-representative sample of all referable DR positive screening subjects (
= 60) and a random selection of DR negative patient images (
= 110). Only subjects with four good quality, 45-degree field of view images, a macula-centered and disc-centered image from both eyes were chosen for comparison. The images were captured by a Topcon NW-400 fundus camera, without mydriasis. The images were pree attempting a more robust future study.Malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) is a rare and aggressive neoplasm. Patients are usually diagnosed when current treatments have limited benefits, highlighting the need for noninvasive tests aimed at an MPM risk assessment tool that might improve life expectancy. Three hundred asbestos-exposed subjects (163 MPM cases and 137 cancer-free controls), from the same geographical region in Italy, were recruited. The evaluation of asbestos exposure was conducted considering the frequency, the duration and the intensity of occupational, environmental and domestic exposure. A genome-wide methylation array was performed to identify novel blood DNA methylation (DNAm) markers of MPM. Multiple regression analyses adjusting for potential confounding factors and interaction between asbestos exposure and DNAm on the MPM odds ratio were applied. Epigenome-wide analysis (EWAS) revealed 12 single-CpGs associated with the disease. Two of these showed high statistical power (99%) and effect size (>0.05) after false discovery r = 0.75; BM + cg03546163 at FKBP5. AUC = 0.89, 2.1 × 10-7; BM + cg06633438 at MLLT1. AUC = 0.89, 6.3 × 10-8. Validation and replication procedures, considering independent sample size and a different DNAm analysis technique, confirmed the observed associations. Our results suggest the potential application of DNAm profiles in blood to develop noninvasive tests for MPM risk assessment in asbestos-exposed subjects.Conventional uniaxial techniques generally require shifting objects or projection grating with the assistance of a high-precision mechanical moving component. To overcome this limitation, we propose a novel uniaxial 3-D shape measurement system with auto-synchronous phase-shifting and defocusing by using a tilted and fixed projection grating. The tilted focused image plane (FIP), which is reflected by a mirror at about 90 degrees, could be shifted across the measured surface by slightly rotating the mirror within a small angle range. This procedure will simultaneously introduce the change in defocusing and phase-shifting of the fringe. The modulation curve of each point can be deciphered by Fourier fringe analysis after a sequence of fringe intensities is acquired. Since both the measured object and projection grating are fixed, the proposed method could make the measurement system more compact and flexible. Both computer simulation and experiments are carried out to demonstrate the validity of this proposed system.Chloroplasts of plants and algae are currently believed to originate from a cyanobacterial endosymbiont, mainly based on the shared proteins involved in the oxygenic photosynthesis and gene expression system. The phylogenetic relationship between the chloroplast and cyanobacterial genomes was important evidence for the notion that chloroplasts originated from cyanobacterial endosymbiosis. However, studies in the post-genomic era revealed that various substances (glycolipids, peptidoglycan, etc.) shared by cyanobacteria and chloroplasts are synthesized by different pathways or phylogenetically unrelated enzymes. Membranes and genomes are essential components of a cell (or an organelle), but the origins of these turned out to be different. Besides, phylogenetic trees of chloroplast-encoded genes suggest an alternative possibility that chloroplast genes could be acquired from at least three different lineages of cyanobacteria. learn more We have to seriously examine that the chloroplast genome might be chimeric due to various independent gene flows from cyanobacteria.
