parahaemolyticus. For spiked oyster samples, the detection sensitivity of V. parahaemolyticus was improved to 2 CFU/g by IMS-RPA-LF after enrichment for 4 h; in contrast, the IMS-PCR method required 8 h. Hence, even when V. parahaemolyticus was present in very low numbers in samples, the IMS-RPA-LF assay could be completed within half a workday. Because of the high sensitivity, specificity, and speed of the IMS-RPA-LF assay, this newly developed method opens a novel pathway for rapid diagnostic screening of V. parahaemolyticus in seafood, which is an increasingly important health issue worldwide. Forty-six VREF isolates lacking the pstS gene were identified among 300 VREF rectal isolates collected from hospitalized patients between 2014 and 2015. MLST was performed and clonal relatedness was determined by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE). Four VREF ST1421 isolates were whole-genome sequenced. Among the VREF rectal isolates lacking pstS, 98% were classified as ST1421, which has identical allelic profiles to ST17 for all housekeeping genes except pstS. PFGE pattern analyses revealed 32 pulsotypes. All isolates harbored Tn1546 components with various transposase and insertion sequences. The whole-genome sequencing of four VREF ST1421 isolates showed that the pstS gene region was deleted at various locations with considerable inversion. The pstS gene was also depleted in 12.1% of 33 VREF clinical isolates in 2006-2007 and in 11.8% of 59 clinical isolates in 2012-2013. VREF ST1421 strains lacking the pstS gene have emerged in Korea. The emergence and spread of pstS-deleted VREF strains pose a serious challenge for epidemiological investigation. Alternative molecular typing methods to MLST will be increasingly necessary.Recently, civilian patients have begun to present to emergency departments with a new type of bullet injury caused by a frangible bullet designed to splinter and deform in a predictable manner. This bullet "the Radically Invasive Projectile" (RIP) was developed by G2 Research (Winder, GA). In this article, we discuss the fragmentation pattern of this bullet as well present several illustrative cases in an effort to familiarize radiologists, surgeons and emergency medicine physicians with the characteristic wounding patterns and imaging appearances of this new variety of frangible ammunition.OBJECTIVES Podcasts are audio recordings distributed via the Internet. We review the availability of podcasts on the topic of radiology. METHODS A search for podcasts relating to radiology was performed using search engines and free public websites that either hosted or distributed podcasts. Only English language podcast series were included, and video podcasts were excluded. Data was gathered by manually interrogating the metadata on the primary hosting platform and related websites. RESULTS Forty-one podcast series met the inclusion criteria. The earliest was from 2005. In total, 56.1% of podcasts were defined as active and 43.9% inactive at the time of publication. Number of episodes for each podcast series ranged from 1 to 269 with 56.1% of podcasts having ≤ 10 episodes. There was a wide variation in podcast series' frequency/schedules. The most common subject topic was 'radiology current affairs' (43.9%), with the least common 'exam revision' (7.3%) and 'radiography' (7.3%). The majority of podcasts were targeted at radiologists (87.8%) and originated from the USA (70.1%). Podcast hosts consisted of doctors (63.4%), other professionals (29.3%) or unknown (7.3%). Additional supplementary media or information as show notes were provided by 26.8% of radiology podcast series. CONCLUSIONS This gives a new insight into the world of 'radiology podcasting'. To the authors' knowledge, this is the first review in the literature and highlights the increasing availability of podcasting in radiology. Most discriminant methods do not consider the problem of misjudgment related to the superposition of information from different discriminant indexes. Therefore, we used principal component and Fisher discriminant analysis to model, assess, and classify environmental and ecological quality, and the impacts of coal mining. The analysis uses the following input parameters as discrimination indexes geomorphology, phreatic water depth, thickness of the phreatic water layer, bedrock thickness above the uppermost coal seam, and thickness of the uppermost coal seam. Twenty-three datasets from the Yushenfu coal mine area, Shaanxi Province, China, were used to train the model. The validity of the model was tested by the backward substitution method, and the misjudgment rate was zero. Seven datasets were then used as test samples in a support vector machine model. Our results show that it is feasible to predict the environmental and ecological impacts of coal mining with principal component analysis and Fisher discriminant analysis, which can effectively eliminate the interaction between the sample variables. This results in a more accurate assessment of mine environmental quality and represents a new method for predicting the impacts of coal mining in environmentally sensitive areas.OBJECTIVE To evaluate the impact of multiple comorbidities/complications on health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and health utilities in insulin-treated type 2 diabetes (T2DM). METHODS In a non-interventional, epidemiological study, data were collected from medical records and via interviews for 938 subjects from various geographical areas of Greece. HRQoL and health utilities were explored with the EQ-5D-5L. Univariate associations were evaluated with the Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis tests for continuous and Chi-squared tests for nominal variables, and binary logistic regressions were employed to obtain marginal effects. Employing a split sample approach, various specifications of ordinary least squares regression models were evaluated in terms of goodness of fit, model specification, shrinkage and predictive and discriminative performance, to select the best model for mapping health utilities using the whole dataset. RESULTS Overall, the most important factors of impaired HRQoL and health utilities were higher age, female gender, obesity, poor glycemic control and increased duration of insulin treatment.
