A comparative assessment of the two bentonites displayed that bentonite having higher CEC and swelling capacity, and SSA unveiled more excellent Cc and t90 values and a reduction in the UCS. A higher variation in behaviour of bentonites was perceived in the existence of MSW leachate in comparison to synthetic MSW leachate.Arsenic, cadmium, copper, lead, and zinc concentrations in the edible part of wild and farmed Sparus aurata from Algerian coastal were determined. The highest concentrations of cadmium (0.0078 mg kg-1 wet weight), copper (0.98 mg kg-1 w.w), and zinc (5.1 mg kg-1 w.w) were recorded in farmed sea bream, whereas the highest arsenic (5.02 mg kg-1 w.w) and lead (0.006 mg kg-1 w.w) levels were registered in wild one. The statistical analysis (Friedman test, p less then 0.05) indicated that the origin of fish (wild, farmed in a cage, and farmed in raceway) has relevance to the distribution of metal. Estimated weekly intake of inorganic arsenic, cadmium, and lead for a 72.5-kg person consuming Sparus aurata from Algeria does not exceed 1% of the WHO/JECFA recommended rate for all metals, certainly due to the limited consumption of seafood products by the local population. The total target hazard index is far less than "one" 1, and the carcinogenic risk for arsenic exceeds the acceptable value of 10-5. Based on the result of this study, the potential risk to human health from the consumption of contaminate farmed sea bream (in the cage) should be considered. The ability of Pectinidae to accumulate heavy metals and store them in their tissues allows the use of scallops for biomonitoring marine pollution. High molecular weight metallothionein (MT)-like proteins (MTlps) play a central role in this process. Two major MTlps (72 and 43 kDa) have been identified in the digestive glands of Mizuhopecten yessoensis (Yesso scallop). These proteins have a very high affinity for the heavy metals cadmium, cobalt, and caesium. Additionally, these proteins can be deposited in large quantities in the digestive glands of this mollusc. It has been shown that 72 kDa MTlp is the main stress-response protein in areas polluted with cadmium or radioactive metals. Monitoring the amounts of MTlps in the digestive glands of the scallop M. yessoensis in areas with different anthropogenic pollutants has shown that these proteins are reliable biological markers of heavy-metal pollution in the marine environment.Indicator species (IS) have been employed in modern aquatic research for monitoring of environmental changes and evaluating the efficiency of environmental management procedures. In this study, we evaluated the possibility of developing surrogate indicator groups as tools for the conservation and management of the biodiversity of Northern Nigeria streams by surveying 15 streams in Niger state for benthic macroinvertebrates and environmental variables as data sets, over a period of 24 months (2016 and 2017). Samples were collected in two locations of reference and impacted sites for each of the streams surveyed. The statistically significant (P less then 0.05; based on 1000 permutations) indicator species for each of the status classes (reference versus impacted) was identified using the indicator species analysis/indicator value (Indval) method. Canonical correspondence analysis (CCA) was used to evaluate the IS-environment relationships. Indicator value found fifteen species for the reference streams incluective tool to monitor environmental changes, community, and ecosystem dynamics across the Northern Nigeria streams.Plastic pollution is a major environmental issue that affects coasts all around the world. Many studies point out the importance of a better management of this type of pollution. In this pioneering study, we have analyzed the distribution of macro-, meso-, and microplastics along the coast of Asturias (southwest Bay of Biscay, Spain). Significant correlation analysis suggests that mesoplastics are produced in situ by fragmentation of macroplastics. Differences between groups of beaches revealed the importance of maritime ports and fishing activities as sources of macroplastics and likely of microplastics as well. Another source of microplastics could be atmospheric deposition, especially for fibers. Oxaliplatin concentration Multiple regression model allowed to confirm the utility of beach services like cleaning and trash bins to control macroplastics. These results emphasize the need of an integral treatment of marine plastic pollution involving fishers and maritime ports, as well as the importance of providing beach services. The paper describes a theoretical analysis of the adsorption of amoxicillin (AMX) onto two activated carbons pyrolysed at either 600 or 700 °C (PAC-600 and PAC-700). Series of experimental data are carried out at different temperatures ranging from 10 to 45 °C, as this is the first key factor to explain the adsorption mechanism of this pollutant. AMX adsorption capacity varied from 275 to 450 mg/g and between 276 and 454 mg/g for PAC-600 and PAC-700, respectively. It can be deduced that the pyrolysis temperature does not play a crucial role in AMX removal capacity of the adsorbents. A comparison with literature data shows that the retrieved adsorption capacities of both the adsorbents are very competitive for an effective water treatment. Physical models are applied to the two experimental data sets showing that a monolayer model with single energy is the best option to explain the AMX adsorption mechanism on both PAC-600 and PAC-700 adsorbents. The interpretation of the theoretical results points out that the AMX was not aggregated during the adsorption process. Under these experimental working conditions, it is noted that AMX is adsorbed almost via a parallel orientation on PAC-600 and PAC-700 adsorbents, reflecting that the adsorption is a multi-interaction mechanism. The model provides an estimation of the adsorption energy that allows the quantification of the interactions between the AMX and both PAC-600 and PAC-700 adsorbent surfaces; in both the cases, physical bindings are involved in AMX adsorption.Much attention has been paid to the heavy metal contamination of lake sediments in rapidly developing regions. In this study, heavy metal (Cd, Cr, Co, Ni, Mn, Pb, As, Cu, and Zn) concentrations in sediment surface samples and cores from the Nansi Lake were investigated to ascertain the potential sources and environmental risks of heavy metals. The average concentration of heavy metals was 0.16-16.04 times background concentrations. The enrichment factor, Tomlinson pollution load index, geo accumulation index, positive definite matrix factor analysis (PMF), and potential ecological risk index were used to assess heavy metal concentrations and explore the evolution of heavy metal sources, and result indicated that Cd reached moderate pollution levels, which is the most polluted heavy metal in the history and present, while the remaining heavy metals are at low or no pollution levels. The contribution of Cd to RI exceeded 76%, which is the decisive factor in the ecological risk of Nansi Lake. The result of ecological risk showed that the risk level for most of Nansi Lake is medium, and some areas of Zhaoyang Lake and Weishan Lake reach high levels.
