Ferroelectric materials have technological applications in information storage and electronic devices. The ferroelectric polar phase can be controlled with external fields, chemical substitution and size-effects in bulk and ultrathin film form, providing a platform for future technologies and for exploratory research. In this work, we integrate spin-polarized density functional theory (DFT) calculations, crystal structure databases, symmetry tools, workflow software, and a custom analysis toolkit to build a library of known, previously-proposed, and newly-proposed ferroelectric materials. With our automated workflow, we screen over 67,000 candidate materials from the Materials Project database to generate a dataset of 255 ferroelectric candidates, and propose 126 new ferroelectric materials. We benchmark our results against experimental data and previous first-principles results. The data provided includes atomic structures, output files, and DFT values of band gaps, energies, and the spontaneous polarization for each ferroelectric candidate. We contribute our workflow and analysis code to the open-source python packages atomate and pymatgen so others can conduct analogous symmetry driven searches for ferroelectrics and related phenomena.The Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) Multisatellite Precipitation Analysis (TMPA) product provided over 17 years of gridded precipitation datasets. However, the accuracy and spatial resolution of TMPA limits the applicability in hydrometeorological applications. We present a dataset that enhances the accuracy and spatial resolution of the TMPA monthly product (3B43). We resample the TMPA data to a 1 km grid and apply a correction function derived from the Parameter-elevation Regressions on Independent Slopes Model (PRISM) to reduce bias in the data. We confirm a linear relationship between bias and elevation above 1,500 meters where TMPA underestimates measured precipitation, providing a proof-of-concept of how simple linear scaling can be used to augment existing satellite datasets. The result of the correction is the High-Resolution Altitude-Corrected Precipitation product (HRAC-Precip) for the CONUS. Using 9,200 precipitation stations from the Global Historical Climatology Network (GHCN), we compare the accuracy of TMPA 3B43 versus the new HRAC-Precip product. The results show an improvement of the mean absolute error of 12.98% on average.Organic optoelectronic devices combine high-performance, simple fabrication and distinctive form factors. The long-term effects of Alcα-deficiency on retinal morphology and survival of RGCs during postnatal development were examined in Alcα knockout mice. At 1.5, 3, 6, and 15 months postnatal, the number of retrogradely labeled RGCs was determined in flat-mounted retinas of Alcα-deficient and wild-type mice. Retinal damage was assessed histologically by determining the retinal thickness. Intraocular pressure (IOP) was measured with a Tonolab tonometer. At 1.5 months postnatal, the number of retrogradely labeled RGCs was not different between wild-type and Alcα-deficient mice. However, at 3, 6, and 15 months postnatal, the number of RGCs was significantly lower in Alcα deficient mice than those of wild-type mice (143 ± 41.1 cells/mm2 vs. 208 ± 28.4 cells/mm2, respectively, at 3 months; P  less then  0.01). No differences were seen in retinal thickness or IOP between the two types of mice at any postnatal age. Alcα-deficient mice showed spontaneous loss of RGCs but no elevation in IOP. These mice mimic normal-tension glaucoma and will be useful for investigating the mechanism of neurodegeneration in this disorder and for developing treatments for RGC loss that does not involve changes in IOP.Myeloma cast nephropathy (MCN) is a common cause of severe renal impairment in multiple myeloma (MM). The level of free light chain (FLC) that causes MCN varies substantially and there is uncertainty about the threshold level that should be used to inform clinical practice. In a multicentre cohort study of 103 patients with a diagnosis of MM and biopsy-confirmed MCN made between 2002-2014, we report prospectively measured levels of serum FLC at diagnosis obtained using a single nephelometric assay (Freelite®) and we explore the relationship between serum FLC level at diagnosis with renal outcome and patient survival. Using a landmark approach, overall survival (OS) was compared between patients who achieved independence from dialysis compared to those who remained dialysis dependent at 3-month, 6-month, 9-month, and 12-month time points. The median serum FLC level at diagnosis was 7531 mg/L (range 107-114600). Serum creatinine was 535 μmol/L (range 168-2993) and eGFR 7 ml/min/1.73 m2 (range 1-34). Six patients (5.8%) had an FLC level  500 mg/L should be considered the threshold level associated with the development of MCN.
