Obesity is recognised as a significant public health burden worldwide. Recently the cross-talk between gut microbiota and obesity has attracted much attention. To that end,

has been proposed as a promising microbe to manage obesity. In the present systematic review, we evaluated evidence on the effectiveness and mechanisms of action of

supplementation in the management of obesity.

Electronic databases of MEDLINE, PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar were searched thought March 2020 to identify relevant published articles, and eligible articles were systematically reviewed.

Fifteen studies were included in the present study. Findings from the present review, which included human and animal (rodent) models support the effectiveness of

supplementation as a novel therapeutic approach for the management of obesity and metabolic complications associated with obesity. However, future clinical trials are warranted to verify these outcomes.

Intravenous (IV) bisphosphonates reduce the risk of skeletal-related events in patients with multiple myeloma (MM). However, data describing racial differences in IV bisphosphonate utilization outside of clinical trial settings are limited. We evaluated population-level IV bisphosphonate initiation and discontinuation among patients of age ≥ 65 years with MM.

We conducted a retrospective cohort study of patients of age ≥ 65 years diagnosed with first primary MM between 2001 and 2011. Patients were identified using the SEER-Medicare linked database and followed through December 2013. Cumulative incidences of IV bisphosphonate initiation and time to discontinuation among users were compared between racial and ethnic groups. In Fine and Gray competing risk models, we estimated subdistribution hazard ratios (SHRs) and 95% CIs for initiation and discontinuation.

We included 14,231 eligible patients with MM (median age, 76 years; 52% male). Over a median follow-up of 23.1 months, 54% of patients received at late uptake in patients with MM of age ≥ 65 years.

The lateral femoral notch sign (LNS) is a bony impression on the lateral femoral condyle correlated with anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. Its presence is associated with lateral meniscal injury and higher cartilage degradation on the lateral femoral condyle.

The purpose was to investigate the effect of the presence and magnitude of LNS on rotatory instability. The hypothesis was that a positive LNS is correlated with a high-grade pivot shift (PS).

Cross-sectional study; Level of evidence, 3.

A total of 90 consecutive patients with complete ACL tears between 2013 and 2017 underwent intraoperative kinematic evaluation with the surgical navigation system and were included in the present study. Mps1-IN-6 The same surgeon performed a standardized PS under anesthesia. The PS was quantified through the acceleration of the lateral compartment during tibial reduction (PS ACC) and the internal-external rotation (PS IE). Presence and depth of LNS were evaluated on sagittal magnetic resonance images (1.5-T).

In 47 patients, the LNS was absent; in 33, the LNS depth was between 1 mm and 2 mm; and in 10 patients, it was deeper than 2 mm. Patients with a notch deeper than 2 mm showed increased PS ACC and PS IE compared with the group without the LNS. However, no significant differences were present between the group with a notch between 1 and 2 mm and the patients without LNS. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis showed that 2 mm was the most predictive cutoff value to identify the "high-grade rotatory instability" group, with an accuracy of 77.8% and 74.4% and a specificity of 95.5% and 93.9% referred to the PS ACC and PS IE, respectively.

The presence of a lateral LNS deeper than 2 mm could be used for the preoperative identification of patients with a high risk of increased rotatory instability.

Planting SCN-resistant soybean cultivars is the primary management strategy. Resistance genes derived from the plant introduction (PI) 88788 (rhg1-b) and PI 548402 (Peking; rhg1-a and Rhg4) are the main types of resistance available in commercial cultivars. The PI 88788 rhg1-b resistance allele is found in the majority of SCN-resistant cultivars in the north central United States. The widespread use of PI 88788 rhg1-b has led to limited options for farmers to rotate resistance sources to manage SCN. Consequently, overreliance on a single type of resistance has resulted in the selection of SCN populations that have adapted to reproduce on these resistant cultivars. Here we evaluated the effectiveness of rotating soybean lines with different combinations of resistance genes to determine the best strategy for combating the widespread increase in virulent SCN and limit future nematode for implementation of a strategic SCN resistance rotation plan to manage the widespread virulence on PI 88788 and sustain the future durability of SCN resistance genes.Cycas debaoensis Y. C. Zhong et C. J. Chen is an endemic species in China that is listed among China's national key preserved wild plants (Class I) (Xie et al. 2005). It is mainly distributed in south China (Guangxi, Guizhou, and other regions). In April 2017, a new leaf disease of C. debaoensis was found in Chengdu (30°35'32″ N; 104°05'11″E) in China with an incidence over 40%. Symptoms on C. debaoensis initially appeared as brown necrotic lesions on the margin or in the center of leaves. The lesions then enlarged gradually and developed into brown spots, necrotic lesions with dark brown margins. Many small and black dots were observed on necrotic lesions. Eventually, the diseased leaves withered and died. Ten samples were collected and surface-sterilized by 3% NaClO and 75% ehanol respectively for 60s and 90s, rinsed with autoclaved distilled water and then blot-dried with autoclaved paper towels. Five isolates from diseased leaves with similar morphology were isolated from single spores. Morphological characteristics were recorded from pure cultures grown on potato dextrose agar (PDA) incubated at 25°C for 3-9 days.
