The C-reactive protein (CRP)/albumin ratio has been identified as a potential prognostic factor for several malignancies. We, therefore, assessed the prognostic role of the CRP/albumin ratio in resected extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (EC).

A total of 235 patients were retrospectively analyzed between March 2005 and December 2017. The correlations among the preoperative CRP/albumin ratio, clinicopathological factors, and clinical outcomes were investigated.

There were 143 males (60.8%), and the median age at the diagnosis was 70.1 (range 41.0-85.5) years. Patients were diagnosed with perihilar bile duct cancer (n = 61) and distal bile duct cancer (n = 174). We constructed Deese-Roediger-McDermott lists using both Spanish and English free association norms. Lists were constructed to vary in backward associative strength (BAS). Experiment 1 participants were native Spanish speakers with some proficiency in English while Experiment 2 participants were native Spanish participants that had either high, intermediate, or low English proficiency. Results showed that, in both Experiment 1 and Experiment 2, false recognition was greater in participants' dominant language (L1 or Spanish) than in their non-dominant language (L2 or English), and false recognition in L2 increased with L2 proficiency when low-BAS lists were studied (Experiment 2). Further, false recognition was higher in high-BAS lists than in low-BAS lists in both L1 and L2. Finally, we collected a measure of participants' knowledge of our stimulus words in L2. These data showed that participants had far from perfect knowledge of all L2 stimuli. The present study employed a latent variable approach to investigate whether differences in naturally occurring affect between individuals are related to verbal and spatial WM performance across six WM tasks in an unselected sample of undergraduate students (N = 112, M age = 20; 84% female). Results were consistent with previous evidence demonstrating a hierarchical model of WM. Naturally occurring positive and negative affect were not significantly related to WM performance on each task, and this lack of significant association held for the overall WM latent variable, verbal and spatial WM latent variables, as well as complex span and 2-back latent variables. In contrast to research demonstrating a relationship between induced affect or clinical levels of negative affect and WM, the non-significant relationship between naturally occurring affect and WM performance in the current nonclinical unselected sample suggests that typical levels of affect are not related to WM differences across individuals.

First-week urinary β2mG levels in healthy term infants were higher than adult levels. Incomplete maturation of kidney tubules in neonates could be a possible explanation. These can now be used in clinical practice and further studies that assess the degree of proximal tubular function in health and disease.
