Heterogeneous photocatalysis is a promising technology to treat many industrial wastewaters. To date, this potential has not been proven with wastewaters from agricultural origins, such as swine wastewater. In this work, the photocatalytic degradation of swine wastewater was studied by applying a response surface methodology based on the Box-Behnken design. The interactive effects of the variation of factors such as photocatalyst dosage (X1), wastewater concentration (X2), and irradiation time (X3) were analyzed to identify the optimal operating conditions for COD reduction. A second-order polynomial accurately represented organics degradation with a high adjusted R-squared (0.9666). The main effects of factor X2 and the quadratic effects of factors X2 and X3 were the most significant for COD reduction. The optimal conditions for COD degradation were 1.16 g L-1 for photocatalyst dosage, 1.68% for wastewater concentration, and irradiation time of 9.2 h. These results have been validated in a confirmation experiment and COD removal reached 91.7% (98.1 % predicted). Based on the Langmuir-Hinshelwood model, the reaction rate constant was 3.9×10-3 min-1. Besides, FTIR analysis indicated that Aeroxide® TiO2 reusability may be possible, especially for low wastewater concentrations. Heterogeneous photocatalysis can be applied as a technology for the integrated treatment of industrial wastewaters resulting from swine production. © 2020 Published by Elsevier Ltd.The first task in quantitative interpretation of a gravity data is separation of the Bouguer anomaly into its regional and residual components which are respectively related to deep and shallow subsurface geology. The decomposition process is subjective and non-unique as there is no single best approach to approximate the low frequency signature. For example, the use of spectral analysis and upward continuation require the wise choice of slope change location and continuation height respectively, which could be chosen differently by different researchers. This requires a need to work on more than one method and select the best to be applied for a given study area. The "best" choice is made based on the anomaly signature of the underlying geology. In this research, the most frequently used methods such as upward continuation and trend surface analysis methods are used and compared to approximate the regional field in Central Main Ethiopian rift bounded between 38000'-39030'E and 7000'-8030'N. The upward continuation height and the order of trend polynomial surface are first chosen, to approximate the regional gravity field signal. Accordingly, an upward continuation height of 6km and first order polynomial trend surface are chosen to be appropriate. Comparison of the two methods shows that the upward continuation technique reflects the shallow source anomalies of the area better than that of the first order linear trend surface. This outcome is verified against the result obtained based on the first vertical derivative method, spectral analysis depth estimation method, well-log data and surface geology of the area. It is therefore recommended to consider the various existing filtering techniques and choose the best candidate for the separation of the regional and residual components of the observed field. © 2020 The Author(s).Anoikis resistance is a critical feature involved in tumor progression and chemoresistance. Finding approaches to improve the effect of chemotherapy on anoikis-resistant cancer cells is therefore critically important. In this study, we examined the effects of curcumin in anoikis-resistant cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) cells, including HuCCT1 and TFK-1 that were anchorage-independently cultured (AI-cells) using poly (2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate). The AI-CCA cells were treated with curcumin alone or in combination with anti-cancer agents and their responses to each treatment were determined by cell viability assay. Gene expression in AI-cells was determined by quantitative real-time PCR. The potential involvement of angiopoietin-like 4 (ANGPTL4) in anoikis resistance was examined by gene knockdown. It was found that AI-cells tended to resist anti-cancer agents tested, especially AI-HuCCT1, which significantly resisted gemcitabine and suberoylanilide hydroxamic acid (SAHA). Curcumin alone significantly inhibited viability and colony formation of AI-cells. Moreover, curcumin combination significantly enhanced the treatment effect of SAHA on AI-HuCCT1 and AI-TFK-1 cells. Gene expression analysis revealed that ANGPTL4 was markedly upregulated in AI-CCA cells and its knockdown tended to sensitize AI-cells to cell death and treatments. In addition, curcumin treatment decreased phosphorylated STAT3 and expression levels of Mcl-1, HDACs and ANGPTL4. Altogether, these findings reveal the beneficial property of curcumin to potentiate chemotherapeutic effects on anoikis-resistant CCA cells, which might suggest the potential use of curcumin for cancer treatment. © 2020 The Author(s).This study aims to analyze the relationship between the current account and budget deficit (twin deficits hypothesis), measuring the account performance and other macroeconomic indicators in predicting the debt crisis in Indonesia. Furthermore, the data used for hypothesis was obtained from 2004q1-2017q4, followed by the application of the ARDL method, while values based on debt crisis were taken from the year 1981-2017, and indicators performance measurement required the use of Early Warning System (EWS) method, which was conducted through Quadratic Probability Score (QPS), and Global Squared Bias (GSB). Brusatol The results indicate a long-term positive relationship between the current account and budget deficit (twin deficits), while the short-term studies reveal a negative association termed twin divergence, which occur on instances where a country has high savings rate. Furthermore, it was established that the current account deficit towards predicting the debt crisis in Indonesia was of a low performance, and the leading macroeconomic indicators include short-term debt-foreign exchange reserves, the temporary debt-total external type, M2-foreign exchange reserves, inflation, IMF, and domestic credit-GDP. Therefore, the EWS model possesses 60% predictive abilities and an NTSR of 0.25, where the QPS value obtained was 0.373, and that of GSB was 0.005. © 2020 The Author(s).
