al, 61% were still symptomatic, 39% of patients had persistent functional abnormalities and 41% radiological abnormalities after 4 months. Embolic sequelae were rare but the main functional respiratory abnormality was reduced capillary volume. A respiratory check-up after severe COVID-19 pneumonia may be relevant to improve future management of these patients.

Phase III clinical trials have demonstrated the merits of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)-tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKI) in the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients with EGFR-activating mutations. Using a cohort of unselected patients treated with erlotinib, we sought to further describe patient and tumour characteristics, and to evaluate their progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS).

Overall, 44 pulmonologists included patients with the required characteristics as follows Stage IIIB-IV NSCLC, EGFR-activating mutation, age≥18 years, and having to start erlotinib therapy or receiving erlotinib therapy as the first-line TKI, regardless of treatment-line. The analyses were performed using R software, with survival rates calculated according to the Kaplan-Meier method.

A total of 177 patients, aged 72 years on average, were enrolled over a 2-year period. The cohort included 123 women (69.5%), 158 Caucasians (89.3%), 112 non-smokers (63.2%), and 167 adenocarcinomas (94.3%), at either stage IIIB (21) or IV (156), with a good performance status (PS 0-1, 127). Overall, 40 exhibited brain metastases at baseline (22.6%), while 75 had undergone earlier treatment (42.4%). Median PFS was 11.7 months and OS 25.8 months, with respectively a 1-year rate of 48.6% and 74%. The risk of death correlated with ECOG status (PS=2, HR=4.48, P<0.001) but not with brain metastasis (HR=1.67, P=0.278).

This study has confirmed erlotinib's efficacy and safety for unselected patients, with PFS and OS comparable to those obtained in phase III trials.

The synthetic route involved the preparation of tosyl and azido agarose intermediates. All the polysaccharide derivatives were characterized by mono- and bidimensional 1H and 13C NMR and FT-IR analysis. A water-soluble amino polymer (Mw = 39,000 g mol-1, DSamino = 0.50) was produced by partial acid hydrolysis showing bactericidal and bacteriostatic activity against P. aeruginosa (ATCC 9027), S. aureus (ATCC 6538), and E. coli (ATCC 25922), with MIC values lower than 2.5 mg mL-1 and MBC values ranging from 2.5 to 5.0 mg mL-1.

This study investigates the prevalence of COVID-19-related discrimination and the extent to which COVID-19-related discrimination is associated with mental health symptoms among Asians and Asian American (A/AA) young adults during the first three months of the COVID-19 pandemic.

We used data from the COVID-19 Adult Resilience Experiences Study (CARES), a cross-sectional online survey conducted in the U.S. Out of 1,001 respondents, 211 A/AA young adults were analyzed for this study.

Sixty-eight percent of A/AA young adults reported that they or their family have experienced COVID-19-related discrimination and approximately 15% of respondents reported verbal or physical assaults. After controlling for covariates including predisposing factors, lifetime discrimination, and pre-existing mental health diagnoses, COVID-19-related discrimination was significantly associated with an increased level of symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), but not of anxiety or depression. Our study results suggest that COVID-19-related discrimination may contribute to PTSD symptoms among A/AA young adults.

This was cross-sectional data which was collected through online and self-report rather than clinical evaluation.

This finding adds greater urgency to develop and implement policy- and individual-level interventions to reduce race-based discrimination among A/AA.

Galunisertib nmr To date, L. meyenii is cultivated worldwide at high-altitude and is commonly used as a food supplement. However, its medicinal value is still controversial and its mechanism of action remains unknown, due to limited knowledge about the phytochemical constituents of this plant species. In this study, a multidisciplinary approach comprising conventional NMR- and HRMS-based structure elucidation, quantum mechanical calculation of NMR chemical shifts and UPLC-MS/MS feature-based molecular networking was applied to analyse the phytochemical profile of L. meyenii. In the current work, three previously undescribed imidazole alkaloids were identified using extensive spectroscopic techniques (HRMS, NMR), for which the names lepidiline E, F and G were adopted. In addition, two amidine alkaloids were reported, representing an undescribed class of alkaloids in L. meyenii, and 1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-β-carboline-3-carboxylic acid, a well-known β-carboline alkaloid, was also isolated from L. meyenii for the first time. Molecular networks of imidazole, amidine and β-carboline alkaloids in L. meyenii were constructed by the Global Natural Products Social Molecular Networking (GNPS) web platform, resulting in the tentative identification of three undescribed analogues. In addition, the structure of a previously reported compound named 'macaridine' was revised as macapyrrolin C based on density functional theory (DFT) calculations and comprehensive comparison of NMR data.Laryngeal carcinoma is the second common malignancy of the upper aerodigestive tract after lung cancer; in most cases is a squamous cell carcinoma, whose risk factors include tobacco smoking and alcohol consumption. Despite therapeutic progress, the five-year overall survival rate for this malignancy has remained nearly 50% and many patients already present metastasis at the time of diagnosis. To date, there are no tools that predict the evolution of laryngeal carcinoma in this light, during the last years, many studies were planned with the aim to investigate the role played by different biomarkers expressed by larynx cancer, which can help make an early diagnosis, predict disease evolution and direct therapeutic choice. This review aims to summarize these markers and correlating them with disease evolution.
