Structural control and health monitoring as condition monitoring are some essential areas that allow for different system parameters to be designed, supervised, controlled, and evaluated during the system's operation in different processes, such as those used in machinery, structures, and different physical variables in mechanical, chemical, electrical, aeronautical, civil, electronics, mechatronics, and agricultural engineering applications, among others [...].Tagetes erecta L. is a popular ornamental plant of the Asteraceae family, which is widely cultivated not only for its decorative use, but also for the extraction of lutein. Besides carotenoid representatives, which have been extensively studied, other important classes of secondary metabolites present in the plant, such as polyphenols, could exhibit important biological activities. The phytochemical analysis of a methanolic extract obtained from T. erecta inflorescences was achieved using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) techniques. The extract was further subjected to a multistep purification process, which allowed the separation of different fractions. The total extract and its fractions contain several polyphenolic compounds, such as hydroxybenzoic and hydroxycinnamic acid derivatives, flavonols (especially quercetagetin glycosides), and several aglycons (e.g., quercetin, patuletin). One of the fractions, containing mostly quercetagitrin, was subjected to two different antioxidant assays (metal chelating activity and lipoxygenase inhibition) and to in vitro cytotoxicity assessment. Generally, the biological assays showed promising results for the investigated fraction compared to the initial extract. Given the encouraging outcome of the in vitro assays, further purification and structural analysis of compounds from T. erecta extracts, as well as further in vivo investigations are justified. We previously demonstrated that the blockade of mGluR5 by 2-methyl-6(phenylethynyl)pyridine (MPEP) reduces both cold and warm ischemia/reperfusion injury. (R,S)-3,5-DHPG Here we evaluated whether MPEP reduces the hepatic preservation injury in rat livers from cardiac-death-donors (DCDs). Livers from DCD rats were isolated after an in situ warm ischemia (30 min) and preserved for 22 h at 4 °C with UW solution. Next, 10 mg/Kg MPEP or vehicle were administered 30 min before the portal clamping and added to the UW solution (3 µM). LDH released during washout was quantified. Liver samples were collected for iNOS, eNOS, NO, TNF-α, ICAM-1, caspase-3 and caspase-9 protein expression and nuclear factor-erythroid-2-related factor-2 (Nrf2) gene analysis. Lower LDH levels were detected in control grafts versus DCD groups. An increase in eNOS and NO content occurred after MPEP treatment; iNOS and TNF-α content was unchanged. ICAM-1 expression was reduced in the MPEP-treated livers as well as the levels of caspase-3 and caspase-9. Nrf2, oxidative stress-sensitive gene, was recovered to control value by MPEP. These results suggest that MPEP can be used to reclaim DCD livers subjected to an additional period of cold ischemia during hypothermic storage. MPEP protects against apoptosis and increased eNOS, whose overexpression has been previously demonstrated to be protective in hepatic ischemia/reperfusion damage.High-speed tactile roughness measurements set high demand on the trackability of the stylus probe. Because of the features of low mass, low probing force, and high signal linearity, the piezoresistive silicon microprobe is a hopeful candidate for high-speed roughness measurements. link2 This paper investigates the trackability of these microprobes through building a theoretical dynamic model, measuring their resonant response, and performing tip-flight experiments on surfaces with sharp variations. Two microprobes are investigated and compared one with an integrated silicon tip and one with a diamond tip glued to the end of the cantilever. The result indicates that the microprobe with the silicon tip has high trackability for measurements up to traverse speeds of 10 mm/s, while the resonant response of the microprobe with diamond tip needs to be improved for the application in high-speed topography measurements. This paper describes follow-up for a cohort of 4530 residents living in the asbestos manufacturing community of Ambler, PA, U.S. in 1930. Using re-identified census data, cause and date of death data obtained from the genealogic website Ancestry.com, along with geospatial analysis, we explored relationships among demographic characteristics, occupational, paraoccupational and environmental asbestos exposures. We identified death data for 2430/4530 individuals. Exposure differed significantly according to race, gender, age, and recency of immigration to the U.S. Notably, there was a significant difference in the availability of year of death information for non-white vs. white individuals (odds ratio (OR) = 0.62 p-value less then 0.001), females (OR = 0.53, p-value less then 0.001), first-generation immigrants (OR = 0.67, p-value = 0.001), second-generation immigrants (OR = 0.31, p-value less then 0.001) vs. non-immigrants, individuals aged less than 20 (OR = 0.31 p-value less then 0.001) and individuato assess mortality patterns in this cohort.Modulation detection techniques have received much attention in recent years due to their importance in the military and commercial applications, such as software-defined radio and cognitive radios. Most of the existing modulation detection algorithms address the detection dedicated to the non-cooperative systems only. In this work, we propose the detection of modulations in the multi-relay cooperative multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems for 5G communications in the presence of spatially correlated channels and imperfect channel state information (CSI). At the destination node, we extract the higher-order statistics of the received signals as the discriminating features. After applying the principal component analysis technique, we carry out a comparative study between the random committee and the AdaBoost machine learning techniques (MLTs) at low signal-to-noise ratio. The efficiency metrics, including the true positive rate, false positive rate, precision, recall, F-Measure, and the time taken to build the model, are used for the performance comparison. The simulation results show that the use of the random committee MLT, compared to the AdaBoost MLT, provides gain in terms of both the modulation detection and complexity.Capturi ng hand motions for hand function evaluations is essential in the medical field. For many allied health professionals, measuring joint range of motion (ROM) is an important skill. While the universal goniometer (UG) is the most used clinical tool for measuring joint ROM, developments in current sensor technology are providing clinicians with more measurement possibilities than ever. link3 For rehabilitation and manual dexterity evaluations, different data gloves have been developed. However, the reliability and validity of sensor technologies when used within a smart device remain somewhat unclear. This study proposes a novel electronically controlled sensor monitoring system (ECSMS) to obtain the static and dynamic parameters of various sensor technologies for both data gloves and individual sensor evaluation. Similarly, the ECSMS was designed to closely mimic a human finger joint, to have total control over the joint, and to have an exceptionally high precision. In addition, the ECSMS device can closely m design greatly enhances testing measures within research contact and even non-contact systems. In conclusion, the ECSMS will benefit in the design of data glove technologies in the future because it provides crucial evidence of sensor characteristics. Similarly, this design greatly enhances the stability and maintainability of sensor assessments by eliminating unwanted errors. These findings provide ample evidence for clinicians to support the use of sensory devices that can calculate joint motion in place of goniometers.

The IMbrave 150 trial revealed that atezolizumab plus bevacizumab (atezo-bev) improves survival in patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) (1 year survival rate 67.2% vs. 54.6%). We assessed the cost-effectiveness of atezo-bev vs. sorafenib as first-line therapy in patients with unresectable HCC from the US payer perspective.

Using data from the IMbrave 150, we developed a Markov model to compare the lifetime cost and efficacy of atezo-bev as first-line systemic therapy in HCC with those of sorafenib. The main outcomes were life-years, quality-adjusted life-years (QALYs), lifetime costs, and incremental cost-effectiveness ratio (ICER).

Atezo-bev demonstrated a gain of 0.44 QALYs, with an additional cost of USD 79,074. The ICER of atezo-bev was USD 179,729 per QALY when compared with sorafenib. The model was most sensitive to the overall survival hazard ratio and body weight. If we assumed that all patients at the end of the IMbrave 150 trial were cured of HCC, atezo-bev was cost-effectanted.(1) Objectives The evaluation of dizzy patients is difficult due to nonspecific symptoms that require a multi-specialist approach. The Dizziness Handicap Inventory (DHI) is widely used in the assessment of dizziness-related disability, but its clinical efficacy needs further expansion. The aim of this study was to identify the subscales of DHI that may correlate with some vestibular or nonvestibular dysfunctions. (2) Material and methods This observational study included 343 dizzy patients with one of the following clinical conditions Vestibular impairment noncompensated or compensated, central or bilateral, benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), migraine and psychogenic dizziness. Principal component analysis was used to examine the factorial structure of the questionnaire. (3) Results The DHI questionnaire total scoring and its vestibular subscale distinguished between patients with compensated and uncompensated vestibular dysfunction with positive predictive values of 76% and 79%, respectively. The DHI items composing the F3 (positional) subscale revealed the highest scoring in the BPPV group with 75% sensitivity and 92% negative predictive value (NPV) in reference to Dix-Hallpike tests. The DHI total score and the subscales scores correlated with anxiety-depression, and the highest correlation coefficients were calculated for vestibular (F2 0.56) and anxiety (F5 0.51) subscales. (4) Conclusions Our analysis revealed that the DHI vestibular subscale distinguishes between patients with compensated and uncompensated vestibular dysfunction. The positional subscale showed the highest scoring in the BPPV group with high sensitivity and low specificity of the test. The DHI is highly correlated with patients' psychological status. Background Definitive local therapy is often utilized in patients with metastatic soft tissue sarcomas (STS) to reduce morbidity associated with local tumor progression. We hypothesize that it is associated with improved overall survival (OS). Methods Patients with newly diagnosed metastatic STS treated with chemotherapy were identified from the National Cancer Database and dichotomized into cohorts 1. definitive local therapy (defined as either definitive dose radiotherapy, definitive surgery, or surgery with perioperative radiotherapy) or 2. conservative therapy (defined as systemic therapy with or without palliative therapy). The association between definitive local therapy and OS, and factors associated with the receipt of definitive local therapy were assessed. Results Total of 4180 patients were identified. Compared with the conservative therapy, receipt of any definitive local therapy was associated with improved OS (median 17.9 vs. 10.1 months). The survival benefit remained on multivariate analyses and propensity-score matched analyses, with a stepwise improvement with surgery and combined modality local therapy, specifically radiotherapy (HR 0.
