Although our understanding of BMAT has advanced significantly in the past decade, many questions remain relative to their lineage and function. The current collection presents recent studies and the up-to-date understanding of bone marrow adipocytes, along with future clinical perspectives related to this unique depot.Asthma is the most common chronic lung disease in childhood. There has been a significant worldwide effort to develop tools/methods to identify children's risk for asthma as early as possible for preventative and early management strategies. Unfortunately, most childhood asthma prediction tools using conventional statistical models have modest accuracy, sensitivity, and positive predictive value. Machine learning is an approach that may improve on conventional models by finding patterns and trends from large and complex datasets. Thus far, few studies have utilized machine learning to predict asthma in children. This review aims to critically assess these studies, describe their limitations, and discuss future directions to move from proof-of-concept to clinical application.

Increased intra-individual variability (IIV) in reaction time (RT) is a key feature of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). However, little is known about neurobiology underpinnings of IIV in ADHD.

We assessed 55 youths with ADHD, and 55 individually-matched typically developing control (TDC) with the MRI and Conners' Continuous Performance Test. The ex-Gaussian distribution of RT was estimated to capture IIV with the parameters σ (sigma) and τ (tau). The regional brain volumes, analyzed by voxel-based morphometry, were correlated with IIV parameters.

We found both distinct and shared correlations among ADHD and TDC. click here For grey matter, there were significant σ-by-group interactions in the cingulate cortex and thalamus and also a τ-by-group interaction in the right inferior frontal gyrus. There was also shared negative associations between σ and regional volumes of the right posterior cerebellum and a positive association between τ and the right anterior insula. For white matter, there was a significant σ-by-group interaction in the genu of the corpus callosum and significant τ-by-group interactions in the right anterior corona radiata, the left splenium of the corpus callosum, and bilateral posterior cerebellum. There were also shared patterns that increased τ was associated with increased regional volumes of the right anterior corona radiata and decreased regional volumes of the right posterior limb of the internal capsule.

This study highlights that brain regions responsible for the motor, salience processing and multimodal information integration are associated with increased IIV in youths with ADHD.

Early symptoms of COPD are not readily distinguishable, resulting in a low rate of diagnosis and intervention. Different guidelines and recommendatations for the diagnosis and treatment of COPD exist globally. The first edition of clinical practice guidelines for COPD was published in 2016 by the Ministry of Health and Welfare in Taiwan in collaboration with the Taiwan evidence-based medicine association and Cochrane Taiwan, and was revised in 2019 in order to update recent diagnostic and therapeutic modalities for COPD and its acute exacerbation. This revised guideline covered a range of topics highlighted in the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) report, including strategies for the diagnosis, assessment, monitoring, and management of stable COPD and exacerbations, with particular focus on evidence from Taiwan. The recommendations included in the revised guideline were formed based on a comprehensive systematic review or meta-analysis of specific clinical issues identified by an expert panel that surveyed relevant scientific evidence in the literature and guidelines published by the clinical communities and organizations nationally and internationally. The guidelines and recommendations are applicable to the clinical settings in Taiwan. We expect this revised guideline to facilitate the diagnosis, treatment and management of patients with COPD by physicians and health care professionals in Taiwan. Adaptations of the materials included herein for educational and training purposes is encouraged.

Hepatitis C virus testing is recommended for people at high risk for infection, including those with substance use disorders. Little is known about the cascade of hepatitis C virus care (including testing, diagnosis, and treatments) among patients with substance use disorders in real-world clinical practice. This study aims to characterize the hepatitis C virus cascade of care and identify the factors associated with hepatitis C virus testing and diagnosis among Florida Medicaid beneficiaries with substance use disorders.

A retrospective cohort analysis of Florida Medicaid data (2013-2018) was conducted in 2020 for patients aged 18-64 years with newly diagnosed substance use disorders (year 2012 was used to ascertain 1-year previous enrollment). A generalized estimating equation identified the factors associated with hepatitis C virus testing; a multivariable logistic model identified the factors associated with hepatitis C virus diagnosis.

Of the 156,770 patients with substance use disorders, 18% were and treatment among Florida Medicaid beneficiaries with substance use disorders, especially for White male individuals.

This study aims to investigate the individual and combined associations of physical activity, sedentary time, diet, and sleep at baseline on cardiorespiratory fitness at 24-month follow-up in adolescents.

The DADOS (Deporte, ADOlescencia y Salud) prospective cohort study was performed between 2015 and 2017. Analyses were conducted in 2020 and included 189 adolescents aged 13.9 (SD=0.3) years at baseline. Vigorous physical activity, total sedentary time, and sleep duration were evaluated by GENEActiv accelerometer. Sleep quality and adherence to a Mediterranean diet were evaluated by questionnaires. Cardiorespiratory fitness was assessed by the 20-meter shuttle run test. A healthy lifestyle index was created by including positive scores for each individual behavior, and 3 categories of achievement (≤1, 2, ≥3) were established.

Performing high vigorous physical activity and low screen time at baseline were individually associated with the likelihood of achieving high cardiorespiratory fitness at follow-up (OR=3.
