Results Key factors reflective of functional status were identified by physicians and nurses during development of the PREMII, as were levels within each factor to assess functional status. The resulting PREMII evaluates eight infant health factors respiratory support, oxygen administration, apnea, bradycardia, desaturation, thermoregulation, feeding, and weight gain, each scored with three to six gradations. Factor levels are standardized on a 0-100 scale; resultant scores are 0-100. No usability issues were identified. The online clinician survey identified optimal scoring methods to capture functional status at a given time point.Conclusions Our findings support the content validity and usability of the PREMII as a multifunction outcome measure to assess functional status over time in extremely preterm infants. Psychometric validation is ongoing.Purpose At a worldwide level, suicide is a public health problem that, despite displaying downward trends in several areas of the world, in many countries these rates have increased. One of the elements that contributes to its prevention is an early and dynamic evaluation. Due to this, the objective is to determine the association between acoustic parameters of voice and speech (F0, F1, F2, F3, dB, and Jitter) and suicidal ideation arousal amongst some university students from the city of Temuco, Chile.Methods Attending to this issue, a cross-sectional design study was conducted through a non-probabilistic sampling of sixty 18- and 19-year-old adolescents from the city of Temuco, that went through an acoustic evaluation of their voice and speech after taking a test to determine suicidal ideation. Afterwards, data were analyzed through IBM SPSS version 23.0 software (IBM SPSS Statistics, Armonk, NY), by means of exploratory, descriptive, and inferential statistics taking the variable's levels of measurements and the types of distributions into account.Results The results point out that 30% of the adolescents, from both genders, displayed suicidal ideation. Taking into account the acoustic results of their voice, it is possible to recognize that the fundamental frequency (F0), the formants (F1, F2), and Jitter, are the ones that majorly link to the presence of suicidal ideation, both in women and men (p  less then  .05). The characteristics that describe F3 were only linked to the presence of suicidal ideation in men (p  less then  .05).Conclusions It is concluded that the acoustic parameters of voice and speech differ in adolescents with suicidal behavior, opening the possibility of representing a useful tool in the diagnosis of suicide.Active research is invested in early diagnosis of malignant cells in order to allow scope for effective treatment. Severe asthma accounts for just 4-6% of patients, but this group is more difficult to treat and is responsible for up to 40% of asthma expenses.Objective The relationship between asthma severity and control is not well characterized. The main objective of this study was to determine impact of asthma severity on asthma control over time.Methods This was a three year, prospective observational cohort study at a tertiary care children's hospital. Results were compared over time and between patients with severe and non-severe persistent asthma. Intervention included therapy based on severity and control, accompanied by a NAEPP (EPR-3) guidelines based structured asthma education program.Results The sample included 471 children referred from primary care offices with the diagnosis of persistent asthma, mean age 6.4 ± 2.4 years. Forty-one children (8.7%) had severe persistent asthma and 430 (91.3%) children had non-severe persistent asthma (mild-moderate persistent). There is an evident need to develop new therapies. Biomolecules represent apotential therapeutic agent in this regard, however their translation to the clinic is hindered by the lack of tools to efficiently deliver molecules. Cell penetrating peptides (CPPs) have arisen as apotential strategy for intracellular delivery that could theoretically enable the translation of new therapies.Areas covered In this review, the use of CPPs as astrategy to deliver different molecules (cargoes) to treat lung-relateddiseases will be the focus. Abrief description of these molecules and the innovative methods in designing new CPPs is presented. The delivery of different cargoes (proteins, peptides, poorly soluble drugs and nucleic acids) using CPPs is discussed, focusing on benefits to treat different respiratory diseases like inflammatory disorders, cystic fibrosis and lung cancer.Expert opinion The advantages of using CPPs to deliver biomolecules and poorly soluble drugs to the lungs is evident.
