Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a prevalent immune-mediated and neurodegenerative disease of the central nervous system (CNS) among adults in the United States and worldwide. This disease results in impairments of physical, psychological, and social functions that compromise quality of life. This review focuses on sexual dysfunction, including its prevalence, burden, and management, in persons with MS. Sexual dysfunction is defined as sexual behaviors and experiences characterized as insufficient in quality, duration and frequency. Sexual dysfunction occurs in 40-80% percent of women and 50-90% percent of men with MS. The presence of sexual dysfunction is seemingly predicted by psychological and psychiatric issues such as depression and anxiety; sociodemographic dimensions such as older age, unemployment and lower socioeconomic status; and MS-related issues such as fatigue, higher degree of disability and motor impairments. Sexual dysfunction in persons with MS is further associated with decreased psychological and psychosocial wellbeing and impaired quality of life. There is limited research supporting pharmacological and other approaches for managing sexual dysfunction in MS, and we make the case for exercise training based on recent evidence from randomized controlled trials in MS and putative mechanisms of action targeted by exercise training in MS. This paper concludes by providing a research agenda for a deeper and broader understanding of exercise training and sexual function in MS.Perceiving art is known to elicit motor cortex activation in an observer's brain. This motor activation has often been attributed to a covert approach response associated with the emotional valence of an art piece (emotional reaction hypothesis). Here, we aimed to test these two hypotheses by assessing whether motor facilitation during artwork perception mirrors emotional or motor simulation processes. In support of this idea, prior studies using the reference-back paradigm have established behavioral costs for opening and closing the gate between perception and WM. WM also frequently requires input from long-term memory (LTM), but it is currently unknown whether a similar gate controls the selection of LTM representations into WM, and how WM gating of perceptual vs. LTM sources of information relate to each other. To address these key theoretical questions, we devised a novel version of the reference-back paradigm, where participants switched between gating perceptual and LTM information into WM. We observed clear evidence for gate opening and closing costs in both cases. Moreover, the pattern of costs associated with gating and input source-switching indicated that perceptual and LTM information is gated into WM via a single gate, and rely on a shared source-selection mechanism. We investigated 3-year-olds' spontaneous lying within interaction and its motivational basis and relations to explicit skills of lying, false belief understanding, inhibitory control, and socialization. Children interacted with puppets to secure stickers that were hidden in one of two boxes. Either a friend or a competitor puppet tried to obtain the stickers. Nearly all children helpfully provided information about the sticker's location to the friend, and about half of the sample anticipatorily provided false information to the competitor. Children misinformed the competitor significantly more often than the friend, both when the reward was for themselves and when it was for someone else. Explicitly planning to lie in response to a question occurred significantly less often but predicted spontaneous lying, as did passing the explicit standard false belief task.
