These enriched microbial consortia were finally tested for their biodegradation performance and stability during bioremediation of highly contaminated refinery sludge using different strategies. A 30 days microcosm based bioremediation trial showed that bioaugmentation of aerobic cultures with refinery sludge was more effective in TPH degradation (~ 65% degradation) compared to the anaerobic consortium (only 36% TPH degradation) and a combination of bioaugmentation and nitrate amendment with sludge resulted in enhanced hydrocarbon attenuation (up to 86% TPH degradation). Subsequent community analysis at the end of bioremediation trial confirmed the stability of the added microbial populations. Thus, the strategy of bioaugmentation of specially enriched native microbial populations in combination with nitrate amendment was successfully used for the enhanced bioremediation of petroleum hydrocarbon contaminated refinery waste.In the original publication.

To present the evidence that describes what is being measured by upper-arm cuff blood pressure (BP) and the level of accuracy compared with invasive central aortic and brachial BP. Potential causes of inaccuracy and emerging methods are also discussed.

On average cuff systolic BP systematically underestimates invasive brachial systolic BP, although in a given individual it may substantially under- or over-estimate central aortic systolic BP. Such errors may affect individual health management outcomes and distort population level data on hypertension prevalence and control. Oscillometric cuff BP is particularly susceptible to inaccuracy in people with high arterial stiffness and with pathophysiological BP waveform shapes. Emerging cuff-less BP methods will be susceptible to inaccuracy if oscillometric cuff BP is used for calibration. The original purpose of cuff BP was to estimate central aortic BP. Recent evidence has shown substantial inaccuracy of oscillometric cuff BP exists for the measurement of invs, development of more accurate BP methods, through better understanding of oscillometric and BP waveform morphology, is needed to improve health outcomes related to high BP.The present study investigated the contribution of phonological relatedness on written production using the blocked cyclic naming paradigm. Participants were instructed to write down picture names in homogeneous and heterogeneous context. In the homogeneous context, items shared a syllable which corresponded to different written forms in various items. The position type of the shared syllable was manipulated so that the shared syllable was initial-only or distributed across various positions of words. Contrary to previous studies which showed facilitative effects of phonological relatedness on written production, interference effects in both reaction times and errors were found for both position types of phonological overlap. The findings indicate that phonological overlap does not always lead to facilitation but inhibition could occur. This work aims at evaluating the morphological properties and biological behavior of Ti-cp coated with matrix composite coating hydroxyapatite-containing hybrid. The hybrid matrix was obtained from TEOS and MTES silicon precursors, with dispersed hydroxyapatite suspended by dip coating. For the morphological characterization FTIR, SEM/FEG, AFM and contact angle measurement were used. Biological behavior was evaluated for toxicity, cell viability and the osteogenic differentiation capacity of mesenchymal stem cells. The composite coatings obtained showed regular dispersion of hydroxyapatite particles in the hybrid matrix, with uniform coating adhering to the Ti-Cp substrate. Nevertheless, although they provided similar viability behavior of mesenchymal stem cells to the Ti-Cp substrate, the evaluated coatings did not present osteoinductive properties. This result is probably due to the pronounced hydrophobic behavior caused by the incorporation of HA.

An increased posterior tibia plateau angle is associated with increased risk for anterior cruciate ligament injury and re-rupture after reconstruction. The aims of this study were to determine whether the tibia plateau angle correlates with dynamic anterior tibia translation (ATT) after an anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction and whether the tibia plateau angle correlates with aspects of knee kinematics and kinetics during jump landing.

Thirty-seven patients after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction with autograft hamstring tendon were included. Knee flexion angle and knee extension moment during single leg hops for distance were determined using a motion capture system and the dynamic ATT with its embedded method. The medial and lateral posterior tibia plateau angle were measured using MRI. Moreover, passive ATT was measured using the KT-1000 arthrometer.

A weak negative correlation was found between the maximal dynamic ATT and the medial tibia plateau angle (p = 0.028, r = - 0.36) and between the maximal knee flexion angle and the lateral tibia plateau angle (p = 0.025, r = - 0.37) during landing. Patients with a smaller lateral tibia plateau angle show larger maximal knee flexion angle during landing than the patients with larger lateral tibia plateau angle. Also, the lateral tibia plateau angle is associated the amount of with muscle activity.

The posterior medical tibia plateau angle is associated with dynamic ATT. The maximal knee flexion angle and muscle activity are associated with the posterior lateral tibia plateau angle.
