To evaluate whether the signal intensity ratio (rSI) of the draining vein on silent MR angiography is correlated with arteriovenous (A-V) transit time on digital subtraction angiography (DSA), thereby identifying high-flow A-V shunt in brain arteriovenous malformation (BAVM), and to analyze whether the rSI and the characteristic of draining veins on silent MRA are associated with hemorrhage presentation.

Eighty-one draining veins of 46 participants with BAVM (mean age 33.2 ± 16.9 years) who underwent silent MRA and DSA were evaluated retrospectively. The correlation between the rSI of the draining vein on silent MRA and A-V transit time on DSA was examined. The AUC-ROC was obtained to evaluate the performance of the rSI in determining the presence of high-flow A-V shunt. The characteristics of draining veins with the maximum rSI (rSImax) were further compared between the hemorrhagic and non-hemorrhagic untreated BAVM.

To determine the correlation between CT-diagnosed extra-pancreatic extension of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), pathology-diagnosed extra-pancreatic extension, and survival in patients with PDAC.

This retrospective study included 87 patients with resected PDAC. Two radiologists evaluated negative ((i) tumours surrounded by the pancreatic parenchyma and (ii) tumours contacting the pancreatic surface) or positive ((iii) tumours with peri-pancreatic strand appearances and/or with expansive growth) CT-diagnosed extra-pancreatic extension. Clinical, pathological, and CT imaging characteristics predicting disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS) were assessed using Cox proportional-hazards models. Diagnostic accuracy for pathology-diagnosed extra-pancreatic extension was also assessed.

However, less attention has been paid to the association of FTD with neurocognitive and functioning deficits in the early stages of evolving psychosis. Therefore, this systematic review aims to investigate the state of the art regarding the association between FTD, neurocognition and functioning in the early stages of evolving psychotic disorders in adolescents and young adults, by following the PRISMA flowchart. A total of 106 studies were screened. We included 8 studies due to their reports of associations between FTD measures and functioning outcomes measured with different scales and 7 studies due to their reports of associations between FTD measures and neurocognition. In summary, the main findings of the included studies for functioning outcomes showed that FTD severity predicted poor social functioning, unemployment, relapses, re-hospitalisations, whereas the main findings of the included studies for neurocognition showed correlations between attentional deficits, executive functions and FTD, and highlighted the predictive potential of executive dysfunctions for sustained FTD. Further studies in upcoming years taking advantage of the acceleration in computational psychiatry would allow researchers to re-investigate the clinical importance of FTD and their role in the transition from at-risk to full-blown psychosis conditions. Employing automated computer-assisted diagnostic tools in the early stages of psychosis might open new avenues to develop targeted neuropsychotherapeutics specific to FTD.

Chemoradiotherapy with docetaxel (DOC), cisplatin (CDDP), and 5-FU (TPF-CRT) for locally advanced external auditory canal cancer (EACC) has favorable oncological and functional outcomes. To establish TPF-CRT as a standard of care for advanced EACC, we conducted this study to determine the maximum tolerated (MTD) and recommended dose (RD) of DOC in TPF-CRT for locally advanced EACC.

This retrospective single-center analysis included 132 vessels in 77 patients who underwent CT angiography, myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI), and invasive FFR. The correlation coefficient between CT-FFR and invasive FFR and optimal cut-off value for CT-FFR to identify invasive FFR ≤ 0.8 were evaluated. The Receiver Operating Characteristic curve analrcutaneous coronary intervention.Over 30 years, the Gram-positive bacterium Priestia megaterium (previously known as Bacillus megaterium) was systematically developed for biotechnological applications ranging from the production of small molecules like vitamin B12, over polymers like polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) up to the in vivo and in vitro synthesis of multiple proteins and finally whole-cell applications. Here we describe the use of the natural vitamin B12 (cobalamin) producer P. megaterium for the elucidation of the biosynthetic pathway and the subsequent systematic knowledge-based development for production purposes. The formation of PHB, a natural product of P. megaterium and potential petro-plastic substitute, is covered and discussed. Further important biotechnological characteristics of P. megaterium for recombinant protein production including high protein secretion capacity and simple cultivation on value-added carbon sources are outlined. This includes the advanced system with almost 30 commercially available expression vectors for the intracellular and extracellular production of recombinant proteins at the g/L scale. We also revealed a novel P. megaterium transcription-translation system as a complementary and versatile biotechnological tool kit. As an impressive biotechnology application, the formation of various cytochrome P450 is also critically highlighted. Finally, whole cellular applications in plant protection are completing the overall picture of P. megaterium as a versatile giant cell factory. KEY POINTS • The use of Priestia megaterium for the biosynthesis of small molecules and recombinant proteins through to whole-cell applications is reviewed. • P. megaterium can act as a promising alternative host in biotechnological production processes.Dickeya zeae is a globally important bacterial pathogen that has been reported to cause severe soft rot diseases in several essential food crops, including bananas, rice, maize, and potatoes. Carvacrol, a hydrophobic terpene component, is found in aromatic plants of the Labiatae family and various essential oils. However, little work has been done on its antimicrobial potential against D. zeae. This study aimed to evaluate the antimicrobial activity and the functional mechanism of carvacrol against D. zeae. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) of carvacrol against D. zeae were 0.1 mg/mL and 0.2 mg/mL, respectively. Carvacrol affected the cell membrane of D. zeae, as revealed by decreased intracellular ATP concentration, nucleic acid leakage, and decreased membrane potential. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) micrographs confirmed that D. zeae cell membranes were damaged by carvacrol. Furthermore, a significant inhibition of D. zeae swimming motility and biofilm formation was observed following treatments with carvacrol at sub-inhibitory concentrations, indicating a significantly negative effect on these virulence factors. Accordingly, the tissue infection test revealed that carvacrol significantly reduced the pathogenicity of D. zeae. In a pot experiment, inoculated banana seedlings displayed remarkably lesser disease symptoms following treatment with carvacrol, and the control efficiency for banana soft rot was 32.0% at 14 days post-inoculation. To summarize, carvacrol exhibits strong antimicrobial activity against D. zeae and great potential applications in the control of D. zeae-associated crop diseases.
