Tissue-resident memory T (TRM) cells, located in the epithelium of most peripheral tissues, constitute the first-line defense against pathogen infections. Our previous study reported that gastric subserous layer (GSL) vaccination induced a "pool" of protective tissue-resident memory CD4+T (CD4+TRM) cells in the gastric epithelium. However, the mechanistic details how CD4+TRM cells form in the gastric epithelium are unknown. Here, our results suggested that the vaccine containing CCF in combination with Silk fibroin hydrogel (SF) broadened the distribution of gastric intraepithelial CD4+TRM cells. It was revealed that the gastric intraepithelial TRM cells were even more important than circulating memory T cells against infection by Helicobacter felis. It was also shown that gastric-infiltrating neutrophils were involved as indispensable mediators which secreted CXCL10 to chemoattract CXCR3+CD4+T cells into the gastric epithelium. Blocking of CXCR3 or neutrophils significantly decreased the number of gastric intraepithelial CD4+TRM cells due to reduced recruitment of CD4+T cells. This study demonstrated the protective efficacy of gastric CD4+TRM cells against H. felis infection, and highlighted the influence of neutrophils on gastric intraepithelial CD4+TRM cells formation.

This paper presents an insight into the critical discussions and the current strategies of the Nordic countries for handling the variable proton relative biological effectiveness (RBE) as presented at The Nordic Collaborative Workshop for Particle Therapy that took place at the Skandion Clinic on 14th and 15th of November 2019.

This paper explores the ways in which PrEP is signified and some of the new identities it gives rise to through the analysis of PrEP discourses among 'bugchasers'. Bugchasers comprise a niche group of gay men who eroticise HIV and fantasise with or seek to get infected. The research explores how bugchasers negatively conceptualise PrEP as a barrier to thrill and masculinity and discusses PrEP as a positive intervention that allows them to understand their own desires for risk-taking. Finally, it addresses a new identity position, the 'poz pleaser' who identifies as a bugchaser yet uses PrEP. Findings link to current debates about PrEP meanings and signification by using bugchasing as a niche yet illustrative example of how men make sense of this intervention based on their existing frameworks. Discussion highlights how this helps us understand how people make sense of biomedical interventions, the importance of emotional 'side effects', and the development of new identity positions. In so doing, it advances existing work on PrEP signification and contributes to ongoing debates about bugchasing.Posttranscriptional gene expression including splicing, RNA transport, translation and RNA decay provides an important regulatory layer in many if not all molecular pathways. Research in the last decades has positioned RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) right into the center of posttranscriptional gene regulation. We therefore propose interdependent networks of RBPs to regulate complex pathways within the central nervous system (CNS). These are involved in multiple aspects of neuronal formation and functioning including higher cognition. Therefore, it is not sufficient to unravel the individual contribution of a single RBP and its consequences, but rather to study and understand the tight interplay between different RBPs. In this review, we will summarize recent findings in the field of RBP biology in the CNS and discuss the complex interplay between different RBPs. Second, we will emphasize the underlying dynamics within an RBP network and how this might regulate key processes such as neurogenesis, synaptic transmission and synaptic plasticity. Importantly, we envision that dysfunction of specific RBPs could lead to the perturbation within the RBP network. This would have direct and indirect (compensatory) effects in mRNA binding and translational control leading to global changes in cellular expression programs in general and in synaptic plasticity in particular. Therefore, we will focus on RBP dysfunction and how this might cause neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders. Based on recent findings, we propose that alterations in the entire regulatory RBP network might account for phenotypic dysfunctions observed in complex diseases including neurodegeneration, epilepsy and autism spectrum disorders.When people have more negative perceptions about aging or attribute health decline to old age, they engage in less health promotion behavior. We tested whether an intervention of brief anti-ageism messages addressing views of aging could motivate engagement in physical activities at senior centers. Attendees aged 50 and older (n = 349; Mage = 72, SD = 9) at seven centers were randomly assigned to read one of three intervention messages (different approaches addressing views of aging) or to not read a message before rating their likelihood of attending a variety of center programs, including physical activities. Multilevel regression models indicated the intervention increased motivation to attend physical activities compared with the control group among participants aged 72 and older. The three anti-ageism messages were similarly effective suggesting some flexibility in framing. The results indicate anti-ageism messages may be a scalable, low-cost approach to promoting physical activity in older adults.
