This review is an overview of the recent advances of gas chromatography in essential oil analysis; in particular, it focuses on both the new stationary phases and the advanced analytical methods and instrumentations. A paragraph is dedicated to ionic liquids as gas chromatography stationary phases, showing that, thanks to their peculiar selectivity, they can offer a complementary contribution to conventional stationary phases for the analysis of complex essential oils and the separation of critical pairs of components. Strategies to speed-up the analysis time, thus answering to the ever increasing request for routine essential oils quality control, are also discussed. Last but not least, a paragraph is dedicated to recent developments in column miniaturization in particular that based on microelectromechanical-system technology in a perspective of developing micro-gas chromatographic systems to optimize the energy consumption as well as the instrumentation dimensions. A number of applications in the essential oil field is also included.We describe waiting times for pediatric heart transplant (HT) candidates after the 2016 revision to the US allocation policy. The OPTN database was queried for pediatric HT candidates listed between 7/2016 and 4/2019. Of the 1789 included candidates, 65% underwent HT, 14% died/deteriorated, 8% were removed for improvement, and 13% were still waiting at the end of follow-up. Most candidates were status 1A at HT (81%). Median wait times differ substantially by listing status, blood type, and recipient weight. The likelihood of HT was lower in candidates 25 kg, non-O). We found that centers with more selective organ acceptance practices, based on a lower median Pediatric Heart Donor Assessment Tool (PH-DAT) score for completed transplants, experience longer status 1A wait times for their listed patients. We conducted a retrospective analysis of US registry data to characterize kidney procurement and discard trends in deceased donors with AKI, defined by ≥50% or ≥0.3 mg/dl (≥4.0 mg/dl or ≥200% for stage 3) increase in terminal serum creatinine from admission. From 2010 to 2020, 172 410 kidneys were procured from 93 341 deceased donors 16 years or older; 34 984 kidneys were discarded (17 559 from AKI donors). The proportion of stage 3 AKI donors doubled from 6% (412/6841) in 2010 to 12% (1365/11493) in 2020. Procurement of stage 3 AKI kidneys increased from 51% (423/824) to 80% (2183/2730). While discard of stage 3 AKI kidneys increased from 41% (175/423) in 2010 to 44% (960/2183) in 2020, this increase was not statistically significant in interrupted time-series analysis following KAS implementation (slope difference -0.41 [-3.22, 2.4], and level change 3.09 [-6.4, 12.6]). In conclusion, the absolute number of stage 3 AKI kidneys transplanted has increased. The study assessed the factors associated with iron, vitamin A, and Zinc deficiencies among Nepalese children (n = 1709) aged 6-59 months using data from the 2016 Nepal National Micronutrient Status Survey. The following cut-off points were applied iron deficiency [ferritin  8.3 mg/L], vitamin A deficiency (retinol-binding protein less then  0.69 μmol/L) and zinc deficiency (serum zinc less then  65 μg/dl for morning sample and less then 57 μg/dl for afternoon sample). We used multiple logistic regression adjusted for sampling weights and clustering to examine the predictors of micronutrient deficiencies. The prevalence of iron depletion (ferritin), tissue iron (sTfR), vitamin A and zinc deficiencies were 36.7%, 27.6%, 8.5% and 20.4%, respectively. Children were more likely to be iron deficient (ferritin) if aged 6-23 months, stunted, and in a middle-wealth quintile household. Vitamin A deficiency was associated with development region and was higher among children living in severe food-insecure households and those who did not consume fruits. The WHO 2016 classification recognizes that FCM contributes to the diagnosis of MDS and may be useful for prognostication, prediction, and evaluation of response to therapy and follow-up of MDS patients.This exploratory descriptive study aimed to describe characteristics and management of background pain related to chronic leg ulcers. A total of 121 participants were recruited from two wound care clinics using a consecutive sampling method. Data were obtained through screening interview, clinical examination, and questionnaires. The mean average background pain intensity was 4.5 (SD 2.56) (CI 95% 4.0-5.0). Pain interfered mostly with general activity (mean 4.3), sleep (mean 4.1), and walking ability (mean 4.0) (0-10 NRS). The most frequently reported descriptors of background pain were 'tender', 'stabbing', 'aching', and 'hot-burning'. Most of the participants stated that the pain was intermittent. Less than 60% had analgesics prescribed specifically for ulcer related pain, and the respondents reported that pain management provided a mean pain relief of 45.9% (SD 33.9, range 0-100). The findings indicate that ulcer related background pain is a significant problem that interferes with daily function, and that pain management in wound care is still inadequate.Deletions involving the distal portion of the short arm of chromosome 8(8p23.1) show a high phenotypic variability. Congenital heart diseases (CHD) are often described. GATA4 when mutated or deleted is reported to be involved in cardiac morphogenesis. Only twice, left ventricular non compaction (LVNC) was reported in literature in association with 8p23.1 deletion. The present cohort includes five new patients with 8p23.1 deletions including GATA4. The spectrum of CHD is variable. Moreover, in four patients, LV hypertrabeculation was detected and in the fifth LVNC was recognized. Literature revision identified 45 patients with 8p23.1 deletions (encompassing GATA4) and heart involvement. link3 It included wide spectrum of CHD including heterotaxy spectrum 7/45 (15, 6%), atrioventricular canal 14/45 (balanced 3/45 including two of them with hypoplastic aortic arch; unbalanced 4/45, Fallot-AVC 1/45, partial AVC 3/45, unspecified 3/45), predominant major left heart lesions included 2/45 (4, 4%) interrupted aortic arch and hypoplastic left heart syndrome. Left ventricular hypertrabeculation might be potentially underestimated in patients with 8p23.1 deletion. These might suggest the importance of including microarray analysis in this group of patients. Moreover, 8p23.1 microdeletion or GATA4 variants can be considered in heterotaxy genetic panels.
