Also, the impaired redox state by stress was modulated by Nar and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and TBARS decreased. Nar regulated the different pathways for scavenging of H2O2 under NaCl and/or PEG treatments. When Nar + NaCl exposure, the damage was removed by superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), POX (only at 0.1 mM Nar + NaCl) and AsA-GSH cycle. Under osmotic stress plus Nar, the protection was manifested by activated CAT and, glutathione S-transferase and the regeneration of ascorbate. 0.1 mM Nar could protect bean plant against salt/osmotic stresses, likely by regulating nitrogen assimilation pathways, improving expression levels of genes associated with tolerance mechanisms and modulating the antioxidant capacity and AsA-GSH redox-based systems.TOPLESS (TPL)/TOPLESS-related (TPR) corepressors are important regulators of plant growth and development, but their functions in chrysanthemum (Chrysanthemum morifolium) are currently unclear. In this study, a chrysanthemum TPL/TPR family gene, designated CmTPL1-1, was characterized. This gene encodes an 1135-amino-acid polypeptide harboring a conserved N-terminal domain and two C-terminal WD40 domains. CmTPL1-1 showed no transcriptional activity in yeast, and a localization experiment indicated that it localized to the nuclei in onion epidermal cells. Transcript profiling established that the gene was most highly expressed in the stem apex. The heterologous expression of CmTPL1-1 in Arabidopsis thaliana produced a pleiotropic phenotype, including smaller leaves, shorter siliques, increased meristem number, asymmetrical petal distribution and reduced stamen number. In transgenic plants, four AtARFs were downregulated, while six AtIAAs and two AtGH3s were upregulated at the transcript level; moreover, the expression of three key class I KNOTTED-like homeobox (KNOX) genes was upregulated. In addition, by yeast two-hybrid screening of a chrysanthemum cDNA library, we found that CmTPL1-1 could interact with CmWOX4, CmLBD38 and CmLBD36, and these interactions were confirmed by bimolecular fluorescence complementation (BiFC) assays. Overall, we speculated that heterologous expression of CmTPL1-1 regulates plant growth and development by interacting with auxin signaling in Arabidopsis. The present study aims to analyse the potential crosstalk between nitric oxide (NO) and hydrogen sulfide (H2S) in triggering resilience of maize (Zea mays L.) seedlings to hexavalent chromium (Cr VI). Exogenous application of 500 μM sodium nitroprusside (SNP, as a NO donor) or sodium hydrosulfide (NaHS, as a H2S donor) to 9-day-old maize seedlings, countered a Cr (200 μM) -elicited reduction in embryonic axis biomass. Cr caused cellular membrane injury by enhancing the levels of superoxide and hydroxyl radicals as well as methylglyoxal, and 4-hydroxy-2-nonenal. The application of SNP or NaHS considerably improved the endogenous NO and H2S pool, decreased oxidative stress and lipid peroxidation by suppressing lipoxygenase activity and improving some antioxidant enzymes activities in radicles and epicotyls. Radicles were more affected than epicotyls by Cr-stress with enhanced electrolyte leakage and decreased proton extrusion as indicated by lesser H+-ATPase activity. H2S appeared to mitigate Cr toxicity through up-regulated H+-ATPase and glyoxalase pathways and by maintaining optimal GSH levels as downstream effects of ROS and MG suppression. Hence, H2S-mediated the regeneration of GSH pool is associated with the attenuation of MG toxicity by enhancing S-lactoglutathione and D-lactate production. Taken together, our results indicate complementary roles for H2S and GSH to strengthen membrane integrity against Cr stress in maize seedlings. We sought to examine placentas enriched for trophoblast inclusions (TIs) in order to characterize, quantify, and examine the interrelations between subtypes of TIs to better understand their underlying biology. We examined a cohort of 600 placentas from deliveries between 200 and 430 weeks of gestation. Forty-five percent of the placentas had at least one TI in the two slides examined. Four percent of the placentas had 10 or more TIs and two placentas had more than 70 TIs. Four distinct TI subtypes were observed inclusionoids (early forming inclusions), inclusions, calcified inclusions, and calcified bodies. selleck chemicals llc We suggest this reflects a developmental trajectory of TI maturation, the timing of which might be useful when comparing TI expression to clinical outcomes.

The high focus states of India have higher maternal and neonatal mortality rates as compared to the national average. The quality of pre-service education (PSE) in nursing midwifery institutions in these states was found to be suboptimal. In 2013, Government of India implemented the PSE strengthening program across all public sector nursing midwifery institutions. The program focused on strengthening educational processes, training infrastructure, institutional management and clinical site practices by implementing a set of performance standards.

To evaluate the effect of PSE strengthening program on institutional performance and maternal neonatal health (MNH) related competences of nursing midwifery students and faculty.

Single group pre-post intervention study.

15 sampled public sector nursing midwifery institutions in the states of Madhya Pradesh and Odisha, India.

Final-year students and faculty involved in teaching MNH subjects.

Performance of 15 sampled institutions was assessed at baseline,es included in the PSE strengthening program may have contributed to improvements in institutional performance as well as MNH related competences of nursing midwifery students and faculty.

Although older adults are sexual, sexuality is infrequently discussed with them by health care professionals. Nursing students, as future professionals, can make an important contribution by developing competences in discussing intimacy and sexuality with older adults to increase quality of life and to prevent sexual problems. In order to improve these competences, current levels of knowledge and attitude need to be explored.

To investigate i) knowledge and attitudes of nursing students regarding intimacy and sexuality of older adults, ii) the difference in knowledge and attitudes of nursing students in different years of study and iii) frequency of discussing intimacy and sexuality with older adults.

Cross-sectional.

A University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands.

Nursing students, ≥16years who were able to read and write in Dutch.

The Ageing Sexual Knowledge and Attitudes Scale was used among nursing students. Furthermore, demographic information and frequencies were collected. Data was analyzed using SPSS.
