Pathological findings in Alport syndrome frequently show mesangial proliferation and sometimes incidental IgA deposition, in addition to unique glomerular basement membrane (GBM) changes including thin basement membrane and/or lamellation. However, similar GBM abnormalities are also often observed in IgA nephropathy. Both diseases are also known to show hematuria, proteinuria, and sometimes macrohematuria when associated with viral infection. Therefore, it can be difficult to make a differential diagnosis, even based on clinical and pathological findings. Some recent articles demonstrated that galactose-deficient IgA1 (Gd-IgA1)-specific monoclonal antibody (KM55) could potentially enable incidental IgA deposition to be distinguished from IgA nephropathy.

We performed comprehensive gene screening and glomerular Gd-IgA1 and type IV collagen α5 chain immunostaining for five cases with both IgA deposition and GBM changes to confirm that Gd-IgA1 can help to distinguish these two diseases.

Four of the cases were genetically diagnosed with Alport syndrome (Cases 1-4) and one was IgA nephropathy with massive GBM changes, which had a negative gene test result (Case 5). In Cases 1-4, glomerular Gd-IgA1 deposition was not detected, although there was positivity for IgA in the mesangial area. In Case 5, glomerular Gd-IgA1 deposition was observed.

Gd-IgA1 expression analysis could clearly differentiate these two disorders. This approach can be applied to identify these two diseases showing identical clinical and pathological findings.

To identify readers who are struggling or at risk of reading difficulties, reference standards in oral reading fluency (ORF) are used to conduct an assessment that is based on a widely reported method known as curriculum-based measurement (CBM), which itself is based on 1-min fluency measures. The purpose of this study was to evaluate students' ORF (with a 1-min fluency measure) to characterize their fluency and to determine references of appropriate development in reading at the 50th percentile.

For this study, a database of readings made available by the Learning Studies Research Laboratory was used. This database consisted of 365 readings by elementary-school students from the third to fifth grades in two cities in the interior of the state of São Paulo from two different public school systems that use the same teaching methodology. In the current work, we have characterized the mitochondrial diversity of 26 Arbi goats by partially sequencing the mitochondrial D-loop region. These sequences plus 10 retrieved from GenBank were analyzed with the DnaSP v.5.10.1, evidencing the existence of 12 different haplotypes. Nucleotide and haplotype diversities were 0.02 and 0.96. Moreover, median-joining network analysis showed that all D-loop sequences from Arbi goats correspond to haplogroup A and that in general they do not cluster with sequences from other goat breeds. Moreover, there are evidences that local Tunisian breeds have been extensively crossed with highly productive transboundary breeds in order to improve meat and milk yields. This prospective study (N = 687) examined whether self-regulated compliance mediates the relation between maternal affective problems and hostility during pregnancy and childhood externalizing problems, and explored moderation by child polygenic risk scores for aggression and sex. Self-regulated compliance at age 3 was observed in mother-child interactions, and externalizing problems at age 6 were reported by mothers and teachers. Polygenic risk scores were calculated based on a genome-wide association study of aggressive behavior. Self-regulated compliance mediated the associations between maternal psychological problems and externalizing problems. Aggression PRS was associated with higher externalizing problems reported by mothers. No evidence was found of moderation by aggression PRS or sex. These findings support the hypothesis that maternal psychological problems during pregnancy might influence externalizing problems through early self-regulation, regardless of child genetic susceptibility or sex.Despite a strong connection between family environment and mood symptoms in youth, little research to date has examined potential underlying mechanisms. We propose an etiological model investigating how parenting (i.e., expressed emotion, or EE) affects youth depression by shaping their emotion regulation abilities. Forty-six youth and caregivers participated in this cross-sectional study. Family environment was assessed using the Five-Minute Speech Sample (FMSS) and the Levels of Expressed Emotion Scale (LEE). The Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale (DERS) and the Children's Depression Rating Scale-Revised (CDRS-R) were used to assess youth emotion regulation and depressive symptoms, respectively. Analyses demonstrated no significant relationships between type of reporter (i.e., independent rater, parent, youth) of parental EE and criticism. Mediation analyses suggested that youth-reported parental EE predicted greater levels of youth depressive symptoms, and that this association was mediated by emotion regulation.
