Osteoporotic hip fracture is a relevant pathology due to its prevalence and social and health impact. The aim of this study is to explore the predictive validity of the CUPAX questionnaire on mortality, place of residence and post-fracture functionality.

Prospective observational study. Two hundred and six patients older than 65 years were included, admitted after a hip fracture. The CUPAX questionnaire score was collected before fracture and one year later, and the place of residence and survival at hospital discharge, and after 6 and 12 months. The statistical analysis was carried out with the SAS® 9.4 and Stata® 13.1 programmes.

The median age of the sample was 87.0 years (80.1% women). The in-hospital and one-year mortality rate were 5.8% and 19.1%, respectively. Most of the patients were admitted from home (71.4%), and the most frequent discharge destination was a social health centre (48.2%). The percentage of retention of previous functional level in the total sample was 50%, being higher in the younger patients. The area under the curve ROC for mortality one year later was .697 (95% CI .626-.760) and .659 (95% CI .576-.741) for the discharge destination of patients admitted from home. Evaluation of functional retention one year after the fracture, identified three groups of patients based on the pre-fracture CUPAX value.

These findings support the clinical utility of the CUPAX questionnaire as a predictive functional tool in elderly patients with hip fracture.

Gestational anaemia, which has specific haemoglobin (Hb) reference values in each trimester of gestation, increases the risk of maternal mortality and complications both in pregnancy and in the first months of the newborn's life. The objective of this study is to evaluate haemoglobin levels in pregnant women in our population, to determine the prevalence of gestational anaemia and to propose reference values specific to them.

Retrospective study of all blood counts requested in pregnancy and postpartum controls during 2019.

9995 gestation haemograms corresponding to 5507 pregnant women were reviewed. Of these, 1134 patients underwent complete follow-up in 2019. The prevalence data for anaemia were 1.8%, 11.8% and 13.2% in each trimester respectively, and the global prevalence in pregnancy was 22.6%. Regarding postpartum anaemia, its prevalence with respect to all pregnant women was 2.99%, increasing to 38.2% in those patients with complications during delivery.

The prevalence of gestational anaemia in our population is somewhat higher than in countries like ours. Therefore, there is room for improvement in our current clinical protocols. It is important to assess updating analytical controls with other more adequate parameters to determine iron reserves, as this is the main cause of anaemia.

Myocardial injury has been identified as a common complication in patients with COVID-19. However, recent research has serious limitations, such as non-guideline definition of myocardial injury, heterogenicity of troponin sampling or very short-term follow-up. Using data from a large European cohort, we aimed to overcome these pitfalls and adequately characterize myocardial damage in COVID-19.

Consecutive patients with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection and available high-sensitive troponin I (hs-TnI), from March 1st to April 20th, 2020 who completed at least 1-month follow-up or died, were studied.

A total of 918 patients (mean age 63.2±15.5 years, 60.1% male) with a median follow-up of 57 (49-63) days were included. Of these, 190 (20.7%) fulfilled strict criteria for myocardial injury (21.1% chronic, 76.8% acute non-ischemic, 2.1% acute ischemic). Time from onset of symptoms to maximum hs-TnI was 11 (7-18) days. Thrombotic and bleeding events, arrhythmias, heart failure, need for mechanical ventilation anratification and clinical outcomes.

Large animal-related injuries (LARI) are relatively uncommon, but, nevertheless, a public hazard. The objective of this study was to better understand LARI injury patterns and outcomes.

We performed a retrospective review of the 2016 National Trauma Data Bank and used ICD-10 codes to identify patients injured by a large animal. The primary outcome was severe injury pattern, while secondary outcomes included mortality, hospital length of stay, ICU admission, and mechanical ventilation usage.

There were 6,662 LARI included in our analysis. Most LARI (66%) occurred while riding the animal, and the most common type of LARI was fall from horse (63%). The median ISS was 9 and the most severe injuries (AIS ≥ 3) were to the chest (19%), head (10%), and lower extremities (10%). The overall mortality was low at 0.8%. Compared to non-riders, riders sustained more severe injuries to the chest (21% vs. 16%, p<0.001) and spine (4% vs. 2%, p<0.001). Zenidolol clinical trial Compared to motor vehicle collisions (MVC), riders sustained fevere injuries to the chest and spine. Severe injury patterns were similar when comparing riders to MVC and, given that most LARI are riding injuries, we recommend trauma teams approach LARI as they would an MVC.This paper contributes to an efficiently computational algorithm of collaborative learning model predictive control for nonlinear systems and explores the potential of subsystems to accomplish the task collaboratively. The collaboration problem in the control field is usually to track a given reference over a finite time interval by using a set of systems. These subsystems work together to find the optimal trajectory under given constraints in this study. We implement the collaboration idea into the learning model predictive control framework and reduce the computational burden by modifying the barycentric function. The properties, including recursive feasibility, stability, convergence, and optimality, are proved. The simulation is presented to show the system performance with the proposed collaborative learning model predictive control strategy.
