The zinc metal anodes in aqueous zinc-ion batteries suffer from low cycling performance caused by uncontrolled dendrite. We have designed sulfonated poly-ether-ether-ketone (SPEEK) polymers as a surface coating layer on the zinc anode for dendrite suppression, in which the sulfonic groups in polymers act as effective active sites for zinc-ion diffusion. In SPEEK, the un-sulfonated domain serves as the framework and the sulfonated domain serves as the functional part to re-distribute the zinc ions. By optimizing the degree of SPEEK sulfonation, the best zinc anode coating has been achieved to present a high reversibility of over 1600 hours in symmetric cells and improved performance in full cells.Nail lacquer formulations are multi-ingredient complex fluids with additives that affect color, smell, texture, evaporation rate, viscosity, stability, leveling behavior, consumer's sensory experience, and dried coating's decorative and wear performance. Optimizing and characterizing the formulation rheology is critical for achieving longer shelf-life, better control over the nail painting process and adhesion, continuous manufacturing of large product volumes, and increasing overall consumer satisfaction. Dispensing, bottle filling, brush application, and dripping, as well as perceived tackiness of nail polishes, all involve capillarity-driven pinching flows associated with strong extensional deformation fields. However, a significant lack of characterization of pinching dynamics and extensional rheology response of multicomponent formulations, especially particle suspensions in viscoelastic solutions, motivates this study. Here, we characterize the shear rheology response of twelve commercial nail lacquer fand polymers on rheology, processing, and applications. The study of adhesion behaviors on solid-liquid surfaces plays an important role in scientific research and development in various fields, such as medicine, biology and agriculture. The contact angle and sliding angle of the liquid on the solid surface are commonly used to characterize and measure the wettability of a particular surface. They have a wide range of values, which results in different wettability. It boils down to the adhesion of solid surfaces to liquids. This feature article is aimed at revealing the essence of the adhesion behavior from the aspects of controlling the chemical composition or changing the geometrical microstructure of the surface, and reviewing the natural sources, wetting models, preparation methods and applications of four kinds of typical solid-liquid surfaces (low-adhesion superhydrophobic surfaces, high-adhesion superhydrophobic surfaces, slippery liquid-infused porous surfaces (SLIPS) and hydrophilic/superhydrophilic surfaces). Last, a summary and outlook on this field are given to point out the current challenges and the potential research directions of surface adhesion in the coming future. This article describes the first synthesis and application of fluorine-18 labelled Ruppert-Prakash reagent [18F]Me3SiCF3. [18F]Me3SiCF3 was synthesized from [18F]fluoroform with radiochemical yields of 85-95% and radiochemical purities of >95% within 20 minutes. 18F-trifluoromethylated compounds were successfully prepared by reaction of [18F]Me3SiCF3 with benzaldehydes, acetophenones and benzophenones.Nanozymes, as a kind of artificial mimic enzymes, have superior catalytic capacity and stability. As lack of O2 in tumor cells can cause resistance to drugs, we designed drug delivery liposomes (MnO2-PTX/Ce6@lips) loaded with catalase-like nanozymes of manganese dioxide nanoparticles (MnO2 NPs), paclitaxel (PTX) and chlorin e6 (Ce6) to consume tumor's native H2O2 and produce O2. Based on the catalysis of MnO2 NPs, a large amount of oxygen was produced by MnO2-PTX/Ce6@lips to burst the liposomes and achieve a responsive release of the loaded drug (paclitaxel), and the released O2 relieved the chemoresistance of tumor cells and provided raw materials for photodynamic therapy. Subsequently, MnO2 NPs were decomposed into Mn2+ in an acidic tumor environment to be used as contrast agents for magnetic resonance imaging. The MnO2-PTX/Ce6@lips enhanced the efficacy of chemotherapy and photodynamic therapy (PDT) in bearing-tumor mice, even achieving complete cure. These results indicated the great potential of MnO2-PTX/Ce6@lips for the modulation of the TME and the enhancement of chemotherapy and PDT along with MRI tracing in the treatment of tumors. There have been rapid developments in safe and effective mRNA vaccines for zoonotic infections in the past year. Years of research have made these advances possible, leading to in vitro-transcribed (IVT) mRNA expressing therapeutic proteins. There are several advantages of mRNA vaccines that include their low-cost manufacturing process, large-scale and rapid production, and the ability to modify the vaccines in response to emerging infections and viral variants. The COVID-19 pandemic and successful vaccination programs for SARS-CoV-2 have highlighted the advantages of mRNA vaccines. Also, mRNA vaccines are in development for several other potential pandemic zoonotic infections, including Ebola virus, rabies virus, Zika virus, HIV-1, and influenza. There may also be hope for the control of pandemic avian influenza by the combination of improved and rapid viral genotyping and the rapid development and mass production of mRNA vaccines. This Editorial aims to present a brief overview of how mRNA vaccines may help control and future epidemic, pandemic, and endemic zoonotic virus infections.

Thyroid dysfunction is associated with cardiovascular diseases. However, the role of thyroid function in lipid metabolism remains partly unknown. The present study aimed to investigate the causal association between thyroid function and serum lipid metabolism via a genetic analysis termed Mendelian randomization (MR).

The MR approach uses a genetic variant as the instrumental variable in epidemiological studies to mimic a randomized controlled trial. A two-sample MR was performed to assess the causal association, using summary statistics from the Atrial Fibrillation Genetics Consortium (n = 537,409) and the Global Lipids Genetics Consortium (n = 188,577). The clinical measures of thyroid function include thyrotropin (TSH), free triiodothyronine (FT3) and free thyroxine (FT4) levels, FT3FT4 ratio and concentration of thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPOAb). selleck The serum lipid metabolism traits include total cholesterol (TC) and triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein, and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) levels. The MR estimate and MR inverse variance-weighted method were used to assess the association between thyroid function and serum lipid metabolism.
