Milk has been studied for its stress-reducing effects. Tryptophan, which is abundant in milk, is a precursor of the neuroactive compounds serotonin and melatonin. selleck products This study investigated the preventive effects of milk casein on brain dysfunction and anxiety-like behavior induced by chronic stress. Mice were exposed to unpredictable chronic mild stress (UCMS) and milk casein was administered for 10 weeks. Milk casein significantly reduced stress-induced changes in serum corticosterone and serotonin levels. The negative effects of UCMS on the expression of proteins associated with neuroendocrine function, neurodegeneration, neuronal inflammation, and barrier function of the blood-brain barrier were statistically normalized by casein treatment. Pretreatment with casein significantly prevented anxiety-like behavior induced by UCMS. These results suggest that milk casein has the potential to prevent stress-induced brain dysfunction and anxiety-like behavior.Respiration monitoring and human sweat sensing have promising application prospects in personal healthcare data collection, disease diagnostics, and the effective prevention of human-to-human transmission of fatal viruses. Here, we have introduced a unique respiration monitoring and touchless sensing system based on a CsPb2Br5/BaTiO3 humidity-sensing layer operated by water-induced interfacial polarization and prepared using a facile aerosol deposition process. Based on the relationship between sensing ability and layer thickness, the sensing device with a 1.0 μm thick layer was found to exhibit optimal sensing performance, a result of its ideal microstructure. This sensor also exhibits the highest electrical signal variation at 0.5 kHz due to a substantial polarizability difference between high and low humidity. As a result, the CsPb2Br5/BaTiO3 sensing device shows the best signal variation of all types of breath-monitoring devices reported to date when used to monitor sudden changes in respiratory rates in diverse situations. Furthermore, the sensor can effectively detect sweat evaporation when placed 1 cm from the skin, including subtle changes in capacitance caused by finger area and motion, skin moisture, and contact time. This ultrasensitive sensor, with its fast response, provides a potential new sensing platform for the long-term daily monitoring of respiration and sweat evaporation.Lithium (Li) metal batteries (LMBs) offer great opportunity for developing high-energy density energy-storage-systems, but the anodes suffer a severe problem of dendrite growth that hinders the practical applications of LMBs. Here, we report a soft BaTiO3 ceramic nanofiber film with excellent ferroelectricity and piezoelectricity that enables one to transverse the dense deposition of Li metal. During Li plating, the strong ferroelectricity reduces the Li-ion concentration gradient near the anode and thus facilitating their uniform deposition. Once squeezed by these Li deposits, the BaTiO3 film generates instantaneous piezo-effect to dynamically change the subsequent Li deposition from vertical to lateral. As a result, Li-Cu cells exhibit reversible plating-stripping processes for over 200 cycles with a high Coulombic efficiency of >98.3%. When pairing with high-voltage LiNi0.8Co0.15Al0.05O2 cathodes, the LMBs can retain >80% capacity in 300 cycles without forming dendrites even under challenging conditions including a high cathode loading of 7.2 mg/cm2, a lean electrolyte amount of 7 μL/mg, and high current rates. The findings point to a promising electromechanical coupling strategy to dynamically adjust dendrite growth for designing Li metal anodes.Bisphenol A (BPA) analogues, used in a range of products due to health concerns regarding BPA, have emerged as ubiquitous environmental contaminants worldwide. This study aims to evaluate the levels of nine bisphenols (BPs) and eight biomarkers (malondialdehyde, MDA; 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine, 8-OHdG; estradiol, E2; follicle-stimulating hormone, FSH; luteinizing hormone, LH; complement compound 3, C3; immunoglobulin M, IgM and c-reaction protein, CRP) in human serum (n = 353) to explore their potential relationships. The detection rates (DRs) of eight BPs in serum samples taken from people working in a dense industrial area of Shenzhen (Guangdong Province, China) were over 72% except for bisphenol B (BPB) (DR = 27.5%). The mean concentrations of BPA, bisphenol P (BPP), BPB, bisphenol F (BPF), bisphenol FL (BPFL), 4,4'-dihydroxy-benzophenone (DHBP), bisphenol AF (BPAF), 4,4'-thiodiphenol (TDP) and bisphenol S (BPS) were 42.062, 2.083, 0.765, 0.578, 0.423, 0.402, 0.191, 0.120, and 0.071 ng/mL, respectively. BPA and BPFL were significantly correlated with the level of oxidative stress indices MDA and 8-OHdG; BPAF, BPB, and DHBP were strongly correlated with the level of endocrine disturbance indices E2, FSH, and LH; and BPF, DHBP, and BPAF were apparently related to the level of immune interference indices C3 and IgM. This study also suggests multiple impacts (oxidative stress, endocrine disturbance, and immune interference) mediated by BPs contaminants in vivo. To our knowledge, this is the first study to report the correlations among these nine serum BPs and oxidative stress and endocrine and immune system indices in human serum samples collected from dense industrial areas.Preserving the functionality of nanosensors is critical for their reliable performance under harsh environmental conditions. Biofunctionalized plasmonic nanostructures are an important class of bionanoconjugates for biosensing, bioimaging, and nanotherapeutics. Plasmonic nanostructures and biomolecules exhibit poor thermal stability over time. Here, we report a class of metal-organic framework, zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8), as a protective coating for preserving plasmonic nanostructures and plasmonic bionanoconjugates at elevated temperature. Gold nanobipyramids (AuNBPs) with sharp tips are attractive plasmonic nanotransducers with high sensitivity but are prone to structural change and loss of sensitivity. This work reports the first observation that ZIF-8 can preserve the structure of AuNBPs and their corresponding strong electromagnetic field enhancement and high refractive index sensitivity. In addition, ZIF-8 coating enables nearly 100% retention of biorecognition capability of antibodies immobilized on the AuNBP surface after exposure to 60 °C for 48 h.
