Although the risk of weight gain from SGA use was not associated with discontinuation rates in either the treatment or placebo groups, SGAs with a risk of weight gain were associated with a larger treatment-placebo group difference in discontinuation, although the reason is unknown. Factors associated with discontinuation rates in both treatment and placebo groups did not influence the treatment-placebo group difference in discontinuation. The efficacy and the risk of weight gain of SGAs seemed to influence treatment-placebo group difference in discontinuation in DBRPCTs of SGAs for acute schizophrenia.

A burgeoning body of research suggests that specific types of combat experiences may be a stronger predictor of suicidality among veterans than a history of combat exposure itself. To date, however, little population-based data exist about these associations in representative samples of veterans. This study examined the association between overall severity of combat exposure and specific combat experiences with suicidal ideation and suicide attempt(s) (SI/SA) in a nationally representative sample of combat veterans.

Data were from the National Health and Resilience in Veterans Study, a nationally representative survey of U.S. combat veterans (n=1100). Analyses (a) compared veterans with/without current SI and lifetime SA on sociodemographic, military, and clinical characteristics; and (b) examined associations between overall combat exposure and specific combat experiences, and SI/SA.

Hierarchical regression analyses revealed that overall combat exposure was positively, albeit weakly, associated with SIgest that combat exposure, when examined as an aggregate severity measure, may yield a poor prognostication of suicide risk, as it may be insufficiently sensitive to detect the effects of specific combat-related experiences. The purpose of this study was to examine rates of and relationships between "post-concussive" symptom endorsement and symptom attribution in Veterans with a history of mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI). This cross-sectional, exploratory study included 48 combat-exposed Iraq/Afghanistan Veterans with remote history of mTBI. All Veterans completed clinical interviews and self-report questionnaires assessing sociodemographic factors, injury and combat-related variables, psychiatric distress, self-efficacy, and coping style. To assess symptom endorsement and symptom attribution, a modified version of the Neurobehavioral Symptom Inventory was administered. Results showed that the most commonly endorsed "post-concussive" symptoms were several non-specific symptoms, while the symptoms most frequently attributed to mTBI included forgetfulness, poor concentration, and headaches. Furthermore, although there were some overlapping correlates of both symptom endorsement and symptom attribution, unique variables were associated with each domain. Specifically, symptom endorsement was uniquely associated with measures of psychiatric distress, while symptom attribution was uniquely associated with having a history of loss of consciousness and a greater degree of combat exposure. Taken together, results suggest that endorsement of symptoms may be significantly impacted by the presence of mental health comorbidities, but that perceptions or beliefs as to why symptoms are occurring are related more to mTBI and combat-related characteristics. Findings offer potential avenues for therapeutic intervention, emphasize the importance of psychoeducation, and highlight the need to consider using alternate terminology for these symptoms that promotes recovery and minimizes misattribution of symptoms. The neighborhood is a critical setting that broadly affects health, although specific mechanisms that link relationships between the neighborhood environment and indicators of health are still emerging. Children playing is a simple, but underexplored marker that may explain how the neighborhood built environment is related to a psychological sense of community. A telephone survey was conducted among parents with children in the Greater Phoenix Metropolitan area (n = 251) to gather information on perceptions of the built environment, parent attitudes and physical activity behaviors, children's play, and sense of community in the neighborhood. Results of a structural equation modeling analysis (SEM) indicated that children playing in the neighborhood partially explained the relationship between perceptions of the built environment and sense of community (β = 0.031, CI = 0.007-0.067). Parent perceptions of the built environment were positively associated with both children playing (β = 0.229, CI = 0.120-0.341) and sense of community (β = 0.360, CI = 0.220-0.505), and children playing (β = 0.135, CI = 0.027-0.243) and parent attitudes (β = 0.440, CI = 0.319-0.546) were positively related to sense of community. As planners and community advocates consider strategies to build a sense of community within neighborhoods, the importance of favorable environmental conditions that facilitate children's play should be considered.

Non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) has been acknowledged as a major public health concern among adolescents. However, the complex association between parental rejection and NSSI is not entirely understood and the existing literature does not address the underlying mechanism of adolescent depressive symptoms in explaining the process.

Three waves of data (called T1, T2 and T3) were collected 6 months apart, between November 2018 and 2019, in a sample of 1987 Chinese adolescents (56.1% males; ages 10 to 14, M=12.32, SD=0.53). Two separate autoregressive cross-lagged models were used to examine the bidirectional association between parental rejection and NSSI as well as the role of depressive symptoms in bidirectional mediation.

There was strong evidence of bidirectional effects between parental rejection and NSSI at both 6-month intervals. Parental rejection at T1/T2 positively predicted NSSI at T2/T3, and, vice versa, NSSI at T1/T2 positively predicted parental rejection at T2/T3. Furthermore, we found that the reciprocal association between parent rejection and NSSI was mediated by adolescent depressive symptoms.

The present study found reciprocal associations between parental rejection and NSSI, and further demonstrated that the bidirectional process was mediated by depressive symptoms. The findings from this study are of great interest as they help to inform the development of future prevention and intervention strategies for NSSI.

Prominent theories of career development suggest age-related changes in adolescents' occupational aspirations. However, little is known about how exactly and to what extent, adolescents' aspirations change, particularly regarding the socioeconomic status (SES) of aspired occupations. We aim at extending our knowledge of the developmental trajectories of the SES of occupational aspirations and potential gender differences in those trajectories.

We used longitudinal data from the German National Educational Panel Study (NEPS) consisting of a large and representative sample of secondary school students (N=5,964, 50% females) from Grades 8 to 10 (age 14-16). Data were collected via a paper and pencil survey which was carried out in classrooms.

Our analysis of a latent growth curve model revealed that adolescents experienced small increases in the SES of occupational aspirations from Grades 8 to 10. Multi-group models reveal that females initially aspired to higher-SES occupations and their aspirations exhibccupations than men in adulthood. Future research is needed to better understand the link between gender differences in the SES of occupational aspirations in adolescence and gender differences in the SES of occupational attainment in adulthood. This study aimed to improve the biological effectiveness and pharmacokinetic properties of chlorin e6, a second-generation photosensitizer (PS), for tumor photodynamic therapy (PDT). Herein, the novel 31-hexyloxy chlorin e6-based 152- or 131-amino acid derivatives 3a, 3b, 3c and 8 were synthesized and their photophysical properties and in vitro bioactivities such as phototoxicity against A549, HeLa and melanoma B16-F10 cells, reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and subcellular localization were evaluated. In addition, preferred target compounds were also investigated for their in vivo pharmacokinetic in SD rats and in vivo antitumor efficacies in C57BL/6 mice bearing melanoma B16-F10 cells. Apparently, simultaneous introduction of amino acid residue and n-hexyloxy chain in chlorin e6 made a significant improvement in photophysical properties, ROS production, in vitro and in vivo PDT efficacy. Encouragingly, all target compounds showed higher in vitro phototoxicity than Talaporfin, and that 3c (152-Lys) exhibited strongest phototoxicity and highest dark toxicity/phototoxicity ratio, followed by 8 (131-Asp), 3a (152-Asp) and 3b (152-Glu). Moreover, in vivo PDT antitumor efficacy of 3a, 3c and 8 was all better than that of Talaporfin, and that both 3c and 8 had stronger PDT antitumor efficiency than 3a. The overall results suggested that these novel 31-hexyloxy chlorin e6-based 152- or 131-amino acid derivatives, especially 3c and 8, might be potential antitumor candidate drugs for clinical treatment of melanoma by PDT.Seagrasses may enhance the abundance and diversity of benthic invertebrates through trophic facilitation. We investigated this potential ecological function for two seagrasses in SE Brazil Halodule emarginata, a native species, and Halophila decipiens, a tropical seagrass recently established in the region. At Halophila sites, the organic matter (or carbon) in sediments decreased steadily from seagrass patches to isolated bare grounds, indicating surplus primary production. This was not observed at Halodule sites. Crizotinib mouse At one of the two Halophila sites, localized trophic enrichment was also consistently linked to increased invertebrate abundance within patches, chiefly through increased carrying capacity of small mesoherbivores. Rather than spillover, edge effects were observed at bordering bare habitats, where polychaete predators were abundant. The transition from seagrass edges to isolated bare habitats was marked by an increase of the density of sipunculid worms. The current spread of Halophila may thus change the spatial distribution of benthic ecological functions.Coastal sediments subjected to high anthropogenic impacts can accumulate large amounts of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and metals, demanding effective and eco-sustainable remediation solutions. In this study, we carried out bioremediation experiments on marine sediments highly contaminated with PAHs and metals. In particular, we investigated the effects of biostimulation (by the addition of inorganic nutrients), bioaugmentation (by the addition of fungi belonging to Aspergillus sp.) and microbial fuel cell-based strategies on PAH degradation and on changes in metal partitioning. Results reported here indicate that all biotreatments determined a significant decrease of PAH concentrations (at least 60%) in a relatively short time interval (few weeks) and that biostimulation was the most effective approach (>90%). Biostimulation determined a faster degradation rate of high than low molecular weight PAHs, indicating a preferential biodegradation of specific PAH congeners. At the same time, the biotreatments changed the partitioning of metals, including their solubilization, suggesting the need of parallel environmental risk assessment.
