SNHG17 could induce the progression of astrocytoma by sponging miR-876-5p to elevate the expression of ERLIN2. This study indicated that SNHG17 has a high potential to be a therapeutic target for astrocytoma.

Apocynum venetum L. is an important medicinal plant that is mainly distributed in the coastal areas and northwest of China. In addition to its high medical and economic value, its adaptation to saline-alkali and coastal saline lands makes A. read more venetum an ideal candidate for use in vegetation restoration. To date, the study of A. venetum has been limited in the northwest region of China, little attention has been paid to the genetic diversity and population structure of A. venetum populations in the coastal region. Here, we performed transcriptome sequencing of total RNA from A. venetum leaves and developed efficient expressed sequence tag-simple sequence repeat (EST-SSR) markers for analyzing the genetic diversity and population structure of A. venetum in the coastal region.

A total of 86,890 unigenes were generated after de novo assembly, and 68,751 of which were successfully annotated by searching against seven protein databases. Furthermore, 14,072 EST-SSR loci were detected and 10,243 primer pairs were riorities based on these findings. The large dataset of unigenes and SSRs identified in our study, combining samples from a broader range, will support further research on the conservation and evolution of this important coastal plant and its related species.

Using novel EST-SSR markers, we evaluated the genetic variation of A. venetum in the coastal region and determined conservation priorities based on these findings. The large dataset of unigenes and SSRs identified in our study, combining samples from a broader range, will support further research on the conservation and evolution of this important coastal plant and its related species.

Endometrial cancer, one of the most common malignant tumors, is a serious threat to women's health. Endometrial hyperplasia is a precursor of endometrial cancer. S100 calcium binding protein P (S100P) has been found to play important roles in many types of cancer. The present study aimed to investigate the expression of S100P in endometrial cancer and its precursor lesions, and to explore the possible mechanisms.

We collected paraffin sections of normal endometrium, simple and complex non-atypical hyperplasia, atypical hyperplasia, and endometrioid carcinoma. The expression of S100P in endometrial cancer and its precancerous lesions was observed using immunohistochemistry. We also cultured primary endometrial cells and endometrial cancer cell lines (Ishikawa and RL95-2), and observed the expression of S100P in these cells. Laser confocal microscopy was used to observe the co-localization of S100P and its interacting protein Ezrin in RL95-2 cells. We employed lentiviruses to knockdown and overexpress S100Pn with Ezrin and re-organization of F-actin to promote cell invasion.

Cell-in-cell structures (caused by cell cannibalistic activity) have been related to prognosis of many cancers. This is the first multi-institutional study to assess the prognostic impact of cell-in-cell structures in a large cohort of early oral tongue squamous cell carcinomas (OTSCC).

A total of 308 cases from five Finnish University Hospitals and from the A.C. Camargo Cancer Center, São Paulo, Brazil, were included in this study. Cell-in-cell structures were evaluated on surgical postoperative sections that stained with hematoxylin and eosin staining.

We found that cell-in-cell structures associated with cancer-related mortality in univariable analysis with a hazard ratio (HR) of 2.99 (95%CI 1.52-5.88; P = 0.001). This association was confirmed in multivariable analysis (HR 2.22, 95%CI 1.12-4.44; P = 0.024). In addition, statistically significant associations were observed between the cell-in-cell structures and other adverse histopathologic characteristics including deep invasion (P < 0.001), high index of tumor budding (P = 0.007), worst pattern of invasion (P < 0.001), perineural invasion (P = 0.01), and stroma-rich pattern (P = 0.001).

Our findings demonstrate a significant relationship between cell-in-cell formation and aggressive characteristics of early OTSCC. Cell-in-cell structures have a distinct impact as a novel prognostic indicator in early OTSCC and they can be easily assessed during routine pathology practice.

Both the 7th and 8th editions of the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) staging system for perihilar cholangiocarcinoma (pCCA) had the same definition for T2a and T2b. But the value of this classification as prognostic factor remains unclear.

178 patients with stage T2a or T2b who underwent curative intent resection for pCCA between Jan 2010 and Dec 2018 were enrolled. Relationships between survival and clinicopathological factors including patient demographics and tumor characteristics were evaluated using univariate and multivariate Cox regression analysis. The overall survival (OS) were calculated by Kaplan-Meier method.

There was no significant difference in OS between T2a and T2b groups, and the median OS duration were 37 and 31 months (P= 0.354). Both the 7th and 8th edition of the AJCC TNM staging demonstrated a poor prognostic predictive performance. High level of preoperative AST (≥85.0 IU/L) and CA19-9 (≥1000 U/mL), vascular resection and lower pathological differentiation of the tumor were the independent predictors for poor survival after resection.

The newly released 8th edition of AJCC staging system demonstrated a poor ability to discriminate the prognosis of patients with stage T2a and T2b pCCA after resection.
