The prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus continues to increase in many Asian countries, with possible contributing factors, such as younger-onset disease, diabetes development at lower body mass index, higher visceral fat accumulation and poorer β-cell function, among Asian populations. Sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors have been shown to confer favorable effects in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients, such as improved glycemic control, weight and blood pressure reduction, and importantly, cardiorenal benefits. In recent years, with the development of computer science and medical science, virtual reality (VR) technology has become a promising tool for improving cognitive function. Research on VR-based cognitive training has garnered increasing attention.

This study aimed to investigate the application status, research hot spots, and emerging trends of VR in cognitive rehabilitation over the past 20 years.

Articles on VR-based cognitive rehabilitation from 2001 to 2021 were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection. CiteSpace software was used for the visual analysis of authors and countries or regions, and Scimago Graphica software was used for the geographic visualization of published countries or regions. Keywords were clustered using the gCLUTO software.

A total of 1259 papers were included. In recent years, research on the application of VR in cognitive rehabilitation has been widely conducted, and the annual publication of relevant literature has shown a positive trend. The main research areas i need to be addressed, such as the lack of consensus on treatment methods and the existence of safety hazards.

The bibliometric analysis provided an overview of the application of VR in cognitive rehabilitation. VR-based cognitive rehabilitation can be integrated into multiple disciplines. We conclude that, in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, the development of VR-based telerehabilitation is crucial, and there are still many problems that need to be addressed, such as the lack of consensus on treatment methods and the existence of safety hazards.In this viewpoint, we argue for the importance of creating data spaces for genomic research that are detached from contexts in which fundamental rights concerns related to surveillance measures override a purpose-specific balancing of fundamental rights. Genomic research relies on molecular and phenotypic data, on comparing findings within large data sets, on searchable metadata, and on translating research results into a clinical setting. These methods require sensitive genetic and health data to be shared across borders. International data sharing between the European Union (EU) or the European Economic Area and third countries has accordingly become a cornerstone of genomics. The EU General Data Protection Regulation contains rules that accord privileged status to data processing for research purposes to ensure that strict data protection requirements do not impede biomedical research. This retrospective study reviewed caregiver administration of subcutaneous (SQ) medications and fluids when symptom control could not be achieved using the oral route. Methods Medical records from September 1, 2017 to February 28, 2018 were reviewed for 272 consecutive patients who received SQ administration of medications or fluids at a home-based palliative care program. We analyzed the clinical characteristics of patients and caregivers, medications administered, and catheter outcomes. Results Patients' median age was 74 years, and 163 (60%) were women. The most common cancer diagnoses were stomach 26 (12%), lung 22 (10%), and colorectal 20 (9%). Dementia 24 (44%), cerebrovascular disease 9 (16%), and congestive heart failure 7 (13%) were the most frequent nonmalignant diseases. Poor symptom control 162 (60%) and impaired oral intake 107 (39%) were the most common indications for an SQ route of administration. Nonprofessional caregivers trained by a nurse administered medications to 218 patients (80%). During interventions, the patients received a mean of 4 medications (±2 standard deviation). A total of 903 catheters were inserted, 15/732 (2%) catheters handled by nonprofessional caregivers caused a local infection, compared with 3/171 (1.8%) of catheters handled by nurses. Hydromorphone was the most common opioid used (57%), followed by morphine (35%). The median length of stay in the program was 24 days (interquartile range 11-60). Conclusions SQ administration of medications and fluids by nonprofessional caregivers trained by health care professionals is feasible and promising, but additional testing is needed.

Participants were recruited online from the open Instagram page of a patient organization. Methods A coculture system of rat retinal explants and human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) was established to determine the optimal concentration of 7,8-DHF, promoting neurite regeneration and HUVEC proliferation. Subsequently, the neuroprotective effect, proangiogenesis properties, and action mechanism of 7,8-DHF at an optimal concentration were investigated. Results The cell proliferation, survival, migration, tube formation and p-tropomyosin-related kinase receptor B (TrkB)/TrkB levels in HUVECs were significantly promoted by 5 μM 7,8-DHF. The ganglion cell layer neuron survival, neurite regeneration, and p-TrkB/TrkB levels in retinal explants were also significantly promoted by 5 μM 7,8-DHF. All of these pharmacological actions of 7,8-DHF were blocked by N-[2-[(2-oxoazepan-3-yl)carbamoyl]phenyl]-1-benzothiophene-2-carboxamide. Conclusions 7,8-DHF yields neuroprotection of retinal explants and proangiogenesis of HUVECs through the TrkB signaling pathway in vitro.

Alcohol use disorder (AUD) is a significant public health concern worldwide. Alcohol consumption is a leading cause of death in the United States and has a significant negative impact on individuals and society. Relapse following treatment is common, and adjunct intervention approaches to improve alcohol outcomes during early recovery continue to be critical. Interventions focused on increasing physical activity (PA) may improve AUD treatment outcomes. Given the ubiquity of smartphones and activity trackers, integrating this technology into a mobile app may be a feasible, acceptable, and scalable approach for increasing PA in individuals with AUD.

This study aims to test the Fit&Sober app developed for patients with AUD. The goals of the app were to facilitate self-monitoring of PA engagement and daily mood and alcohol cravings, increase awareness of immediate benefits of PA on mood and cravings, encourage setting and adjusting PA goals, provide resources and increase knowledge for increasing PA, and n d=0.35). Moderate-to-large effects were observed for increases in percentage of abstinent days (Cohen d=2.17) and quality of life (Cohen d=0.58) as well as decreases in anxiety (Cohen d=-0.71) and depression symptoms (Cohen d=-0.58).

The Fit&Sober app is an acceptable and feasible approach for increasing PA in patients with AUD during early recovery. A future randomized controlled trial is necessary to determine the efficacy of the Fit&Sober app for long-term maintenance of PA, ancillary mental health, and alcohol outcomes. If the efficacy of the Fit&Sober app could be established, patients with AUD would have a valuable adjunct to traditional alcohol treatment that can be delivered in any setting and at any time, thereby improving the overall health and well-being of this population.

Men with prostate cancer experience immediate and long-term consequences of the disease and its treatment. They require both long-term monitoring for recurrence or progression and follow-up to identify and help manage psychosocial and physical impacts. Holistic Needs Assessment aims to ensure patient-centered continuing cancer care. However, paper-based generic tools have had limited uptake within cancer services, and there is little evidence of their impact. With the expansion of remote methods of care delivery and to enhance the value of generic tools, we developed a web-based Composite Holistic Needs Assessment Adaptive Tool-Prostate (CHAT-P) specifically for prostate cancer.

This paper described the context, conceptual underpinning, and approach to design that informed the development of CHAT-P, starting from the initial concept to readiness for deployment. Through this narrative, we sought to contribute to the expanding body of knowledge regarding the coproduction process of innovative digital systems with potential for enhanced cancer care delivery.
