Intrauterine contraceptive device (IUCD) prevents unwanted pregnancy. An immediate postpartum period is a good opportunity to place IUCD for women who want to delay pregnancy. However, in Sub-Saharan Africa mainly in Ethiopia, this procedure is not widely used. This study aimed to determine the utilization and factors associated with an immediate postpartum intrauterine contraceptive device (IPPIUCD).

Multi-level facility-based cross-sectional study was conducted from Januarey12 to March 12/2019GC on 423 women who delivered at selected hospitals of the west Gojjam zone. A systematic random sampling technique was applied to select study participants. Proportional allocations of samples were done based on the delivery caseload of each hospital. click here Data were entered in Epi info version 7.1 software and exported to SPSS version 23 for editing, cleaning, and analysis. Bivariable and multivariable logistic regression analysis were performed to determine factors associated with the utilization of IPPIUCD.

The utind above education, being counseled about IPPIUCD, and needing above 36 months birth spacing were significant factors for utilization of IPPIUCD. Encouraging women's education and informing health professionals of the importance of IPPIUCD may enhance IPPIUCD utilization. This finding may be useful in both reproductive health promotion at an individual level and policy-making regarding this issue.Kinetic and physicochemical properties of Moringa oleifera peroxidase purified using a novel and cost efficient protocol was investigated with a view to providing information on its possible biotechnological potentials. Moringa oleifera peroxidase was purified to homogeneity in two steps, involving ATPS and size exclusion chromatography on Sephadex G-100 with a yield of 84.12 %. In-gel activity staining revealed the presence of one isoform of peroxidase. The purified peroxidase is monomeric with native and subunits molecular weight of 38.9 and 43.5 kDa respectively. Kinetic parameters - Vmax, Km(app)o-dianisidine, Km(app)H2O2 of the purified enzyme were 2.5 units/mg protein, 0.020 ± 0.04 mM and 1.37 ± 0.18 mM respectively. Its optimum pH and temperature were 5 and 30 °C respectively. The purified enzyme cross-linked BSA into an insoluble matrix with the aid of caffeic acid. The study concluded that the purification scheme adopted is rapid and efficient, the purified enzyme exhibited some physiochemical properties that make it suitable for various biotechnological applications.Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are lipid bilayer-enclosed microparticles that have prominent roles in the intercellular crosstalk. EVs are secreted after fusion of endosomes with the plasma membrane (exosomes) or shed from the plasma membrane (microvesicles). These microparticles modulate bone marrow microenvironment and alter differentiation and expansion of normal hematopoietic cells. EVs originated from mesenchymal stromal cells have been shown to enhance expansion of myeloid-biased hematopoietic progenitor cells. In addition, megakaryocytic microparticles stimulate differentiation of hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells into mature megakaryocytes. The ability of EVs in induction of maturation and expansion of certain hematopoietic cells has implications in transfusion medicine and in targeted therapeutic modalities. Important prerequisites for these interventions are identification the specific targets of EVs, transferred biomolecules and molecular mechanisms underlying the fate decision in the target cells. EVs are also involved in the pathogenesis and progression of hematological malignancies including acute leukemia and multiples myeloma. In the current review, we provide a summary of studies which evaluated the significance of EVs in normal hematopoiesis and hematological malignancies. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of institutional research promoting policies and organizational characteristics on research productivity in Vietnam universities. The authors employed a dataset surveying faculty staff from 115 universities across the country and used multivariate data analysis to analyse data and test hypotheses. It was found that institutional characteristics such as size, time in operation and advantageous location were positively associated with research productivity. Specifically, universities located in the big cities with longer time in operation and larger size had higher level of international publication. Institutional policies such as management and infrastructure had a positive impact on research productivity while human resource policies had a positive impact on faculty research outcomes. The study also provided some suggestions to promote research productivity of Vietnam universities.Mancozeb (MZ) is a broad-spectrum fungicide used worldwide in several crops. Neurological disorders in humans and animals have been associated with exposure to this compound by mechanisms still not fully understood. Drosophila melanogaster represents a reliable model in toxicological studies, presenting genetic and biochemical similarities with mammals. In this study, D. melanogaster flies were exposed for 15 days to MZ through the food (5 and 10 mg/mL). After that period, the efficiency of mitochondrial respiration complexes and metabolic markers were analyzed and evaluated. Flies presented weight loss, lower glucose, trehalose, and glycogen levels, and augmented levels of triglycerides concerning control (non-treated group). Acetyl-CoA Synthetase (ACeCS-1) and Acyl-Coenzyme Synthetase (ACSL1) contents were unchanged by MZ treatment. Mitochondrial respiration of flies was targeted by MZ treatment, evidenced by a decrease in oxygen consumption and bioenergetics rate and inhibition in mitochondrial complexes I/II. These results suppose that an impairment in mitochondrial respiration jointly with reduced levels of energetic substrates might be a mechanism involved in MZ deleterious effects, possibly by the limitation of ATP's availability, necessary for essential cellular processes.Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is an aggressive form of pancreatic cancer that typically manifests itself at an advanced stage and does not respond to most treatment modalities. The survival rate of a PDAC patient is less than 5%, with a median survival of just a couple of months. A better understanding of the molecular pathology of PDAC is needed to guide research for the development of better clinical treatment modalities for PDAC patients. Gene expression studies performed to date have identified different subtypes of PDAC with prognostic and clinical relevance. Subtypes identified to date are highly heterogeneous since pancreatic cancer is heterogeneous cancer. Tumor microenvironment and stroma constitute a major chunk of PDAC and contribute to the heterogeneity. Better subtyping methods are need of the hour for better prognosis and classification of PDAC for future personalized treatment. In this work, we have performed an integrated analysis of DNA methylation and gene expression datasets to pre that using varied data sets and integrated methods can contribute to disease prognostication and precision medicine in PDAC treatment. There is conflicting evidence as to whether Facebook, one of the most popular social networking sites, either promotes social connectedness or contributes to the rising prevalence of loneliness. This study aimed to understand the association between Facebook use and loneliness. Two hundred and fourteen active Facebook users (Mage = 35.65; 80.8% female) completed a cross-sectional questionnaire measuring the nature of their Facebook use, how frequently they ruminate, the tendency to compare themselves to their Facebook friends, and upward and downward social comparison. The results showed that rumination and upward social comparison on Facebook were significantly associated with loneliness. The type of activity users engaged in when using Facebook was not significant. The study therefore demonstrates that Facebook users who ruminate and compare themselves to their perceived superiors on Facebook are more likely to experience loneliness. Suggested solutions include raising awareness and using algorithms on Facebook to deliver targeted interventions. We define θ N -closure operator as a new topological operator which lies between the θ-closure and the θ ω -closure. Some relationships between this new operator and each of θ-closure, θ ω -closure, and usual closure are obtained. Via θ N -closure operator, we introduce θ N -open sets as a new topology. Some mapping theorems related to the new topology are given. T 2 topological spaces are characterized in terms of θ N -closure operator. Also, we use N -open sets to define N -regularity as a new separation axiom which lies strictly between ω-regularity and regularity. For a given topological space ( Y , σ ) , we show that N -regularity is equivalent to the condition σ = σ θ N . Finally, θ N -continuity, N -θ-continuity, weak θ N -continuity, and faint θ N -continuity are introduced and studied.Hepatic tissue of Larus dominicanus sampled on the coastline of the state of Santa Catarina in Brazil between October 2016 and May 2018 was used to evaluate intraspecific trends and spatial distribution of essential trace elements (Mn, Co, Cu, Zn, Mo and Cr) and non-essential trace elements (As, Pb, Cd, Hg, Ba and V). Principal Component Analysis (PCA) indicated differences in the bioaccumulation of trace elements between female adults and male adults, differences to sex and age were indicated by Kruskal-Wallis test. Heat maps suggest hot spots in locals with high concentration of trace elements in liver of Larus dominicanus. In general, the concentration of trace elements were comparable with values reported in other studies carried out for this species in South America and other regions of the world. The heat maps showed to be a promising tool to identify influences of the locality on bioaccumulation of trace elements in Larus dominicanus.

(Doty) Doty ex P.C.Silva is a red algae with antioxidant and antiglycation activities. Algae still have not been widely used for treating diabetes, especially to prevent complications. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of active fractions from

on plasma glucose level, glycation process and renal RAGE gene expression.

This study used bioassay-guided fractionation, consisting of three stages extraction, partition, and fractionation. These processes were monitored with Thin Layer Chromatography and the BSA-Glucose method to select the best extract with antiglycation activity (calculated as the percentage of inhibition and IC

). The selected active fraction from four fractions was further used for

study, which was conducted with hyperglycemic Wistar male rats. Plasma glucose level was measured using GOD-PAP methods, while plasma glycated albumin (GA) and Nε- (carboxymethyl) lysine (CML) levels were measured using ELISA. Renal RAGE gene expression was analyzed using qPCR.

Fraction II was selected as the active fraction of

showing antiglycation activity with the highest percentage of inhibition and the lowest IC

This fraction significantly reduced plasma GA and CML levels, but it did not significantly reduce plasma glucose level. Furthermore, renal RAGE gene expression was lower in the diabetic rat group treated with this active fraction compared to the untreated group.

This study successfully identified an active fraction of

with antiglycation activity to reduce plasma GA and CML levels as well as renal RAGE gene expression. Therefore, this fraction could be developed as a potential candidate for treating diabetes.

This study successfully identified an active fraction of Kappaphycus alvarezii with antiglycation activity to reduce plasma GA and CML levels as well as renal RAGE gene expression. Therefore, this fraction could be developed as a potential candidate for treating diabetes.
