In addition, low levels of meaning and purpose were significant predictors of depression, anxiety, and stress across all groups.

The findings demonstrate that persistent pain is associated with spiritual distress that is equal to those observed in people who have cancer. Furthermore, those who have higher levels of meaning and purpose are less likely to develop mood dysfunction when experiencing pain, indicating they may have a protective role.

Bone contributes to maintaining the acid-base balance as a buffering system for blood pH. Diet composition also affects acid-base balance. Several studies have linked an imbalance in the acid-base system to changes in the density and structure of bone mass, although some prospective studies and meta-analyses suggest that acid load has no deleterious effect on bone.

The aim of this study was to examine the associations between potential renal acid load (PRAL) and net endogenous acid production (NEAP) and the risk of osteoporotic fractures and bone mineral density (BMD) in 2 middle-aged and elderly Mediterranean populations.

We conducted a longitudinal analysis including 870 participants from the PREvención con DIeta MEDiterranea (PREDIMED) Study and a cross-sectional analysis including 1134 participants from the PREDIMED-Plus study. Participants were adults, aged 55-80 y, either at high cardiovascular risk (PREDIMED) or overweight/obese with metabolic syndrome (PREDIMED-Plus), as defined by the Internatits in the top PRAL and NEAP tertiles had lower BMD [PRAL mean total femur BMD 1.029±0.007 and 1.007±0.007g/cm2; P = 0.006 (tertiles 1 and 3); NEAP mean total femur BMD 1.032±0.007 and 1.009±0.007g/cm2; P = 0.017 (tertiles 1 and 3)].

The results of our study suggest that both high and low dietary acid are associated with a higher risk of osteoporotic fractures, although only high dietary acid was found to have a negative relation to BMD in senior adults with existing chronic health conditions. This trial was registered at http//www.isrctn.com/ as ISRCTN3573963 (PREDIMED) and ISRCTN89898870 (PREDIMED-Plus).

Families of children with phenylketonuria (PKU) report child emotional and behavioral problems, parenting stress, and parenting difficulties, which are associated with worse health-related quality of life. This study aimed to examine acceptability and feasibility of a brief, group-based parenting program (Healthy Living Triple P) for families of children with PKU.

An uncontrolled nonrandomized trial design was used. Families of children aged 2-12 years (N = 17) completed questionnaire measures assessing child behavior and impact of PKU on quality of life (primary outcomes), and parenting behavior, self-efficacy and stress, and children's behavioral and emotional adjustment (secondary outcomes). Routinely collected blood phenylalanine (Phe) levels were obtained from the treating team. Parents selected two child behaviors as targets for change. The intervention comprised two, 2-hr group sessions delivered face-to-face or online. Assessment was repeated at 4-week postintervention (T2) and 4-month follow-up (T3).

Attrition was low and parent satisfaction with the intervention (face-to-face and online) was high. All families achieved success with one or both child behavior goals, and 75% of families achieved 100% success with both behavior goals by T3; however, there was no change in health-related quality of life. There were moderate improvements in parent-reported ineffective parenting (total score, d = 0.87, 95% CI -1.01 to 2.75) and laxness (d = 0.59, 95% CI -1.27 to 2.46), but no effects on parenting stress or children's adjustment. Phe levels improved by 6month post-intervention for children with elevated preintervention levels.

Results support intervention acceptability and feasibility. A randomized controlled trial is warranted to establish intervention efficacy.

Within the nosZ phylogeny there are two major clades (I and II), which seem to have different ecological niches. However, physiological differences of nosZI and nosZII expression that may impact emissions of N2O are not well understood. Here, we evaluated the differential expression of nosZI and nosZII, both present in Thauera linaloolentis strain 47LolT, in response to N2O concentration and the presence of the competing electron acceptor nitrate (NO3-). DLin-KC2-DMA Different N2O levels had a negligible effect on the expression of both nosZ clades. Interestingly, nosZII expression was strongly upregulated in the absence of NO3-, while nosZI expression remained constant across the conditions tested. Thus, NO3- possibly inhibited nosZII expression, which suggests that N2O mitigation mediated by nosZII can be restricted due to the presence of NO3- in the environment. This is the first study demonstrating differential expression of nosZI and nosZII genes under the same physiological conditions and their implications for N2O emission under varying environmental conditions in terms of NO3- availability.

The quality of carbohydrate consumed, assessed by the glycemic index (GI), glycemic load (GL), or carbohydrate quality index (CQI), affects the postprandial glycemic and insulinemic responses, which have been implicated in the etiology of several chronic diseases. However, it is unclear whether plasma metabolites involved in different biological pathways could provide functional insights into the role of carbohydrate quality indices in health.

We aimed to identify plasma metabolomic profiles associated with dietary GI, GL, and CQI.

The present study is a cross-sectional analysis of 1833 participants with overweight/obesity (mean age=67 y) from 2 case-cohort studies nested within the PREDIMED (Prevención con Dieta Mediterránea) trial. Data extracted from validated FFQs were used to estimate the GI, GL, and CQI. Plasma concentrations of 385 metabolites were profiled with LC coupled to MS and associations of these metabolites with those indices were assessed with elastic net regression analyses.

A total of 58, 18, and 57 metabolites were selected for GI, GL, and CQI, respectively.
