FIHOA was translated into Turkish following the principles of cross-cultural adaptation. Our translation was firstly tested in 40 patients with hand osteoarthritis. Adapted FIHOA questionnaire was then administrated to 100 hand OA patients successively with Modified Health Assessment Questionnaire (mHAQ), Numerical Rating Scale (NRS), and Short Form-36 (SF-36). Patients filled out the FIHOA questionnaire one more time after five days for test-retest assessment. Patients were divided into two groups as symptomatic or asymptomatic, with a NRS score of 5 or above defining symptomatic OA. Internal consistency was assessed by Cronbach's alpha and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) of test-retest reliability. check details Spearman correlation analysis was used to determine the correlation and validity between data. External construct validity was assessed using the correlation between FIHOA, mHAQ, hand pain NRS, and negative correlation with SF-36 subgroups.

According to the total score, Cronbach-alpha was found as 0.90, while ICC was determined as 0.98 for test-retest reliability. When the correlations between the FIHOA questionnaire, mHAQ, and NRS questionnaires were examined, significant correlations were determined, and negative correlations between FIHOA and SF-36 subgroups were observed.

Patients in psychiatric care wards face serious problems in terms of declining physical function due to aging and long-term hospitalization. This study aimed to determine the current status of locomotive syndrome (LS) in long-term inpatients in psychiatric care wards and to clarify the factors associated with LS risk severity.

The study included 84 patients admitted to psychiatric care wards who underwent the LS stage test. We investigated the participants' age, length of stay, antipsychotic drug use, body mass index, and activities of daily living were assessed and analyzed the correlations between the LS stage test and each assessment item.

The participants' mean age was 60.0±13.6 years, with those aged ≥60 years comprising nearly 60% of the sample. The participants' mean length of stay was 10.5±12.0 years, and over half of the patients stayed >5 years 17.9% stayed between 5 and 10 years, while 36.9% stayed ≥10 years. Nearly 90% of participants stayed for >1 year. The LS stage test showed that 60.7% of the participants were stage 3, 21.4% were stage 2, 14.3% were stage 1, and 3.6% had no risk. The results of the LS stage indicated significant correlations with age, length of stay, and the Barthel Index scores.

The medical treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) has made remarkable progress with the introduction of methotrexate and biological agents. However, there have been few reports of long-term results of total knee arthroplasty (TKA) for RA since the introduction of these drugs. Ambulation is an important form of exercise for maintaining health. We investigated the long-term outcomes and the ability to walk outdoors following TKA in patients with RA.

We retrospectively reviewed 142 patients with RA (201 knees) who had undergone primary TKA. The mean follow-up was 10.6 years.

Markers of RA disease activity all improved significantly postoperatively. Mean Japanese Orthopedic Association scores improved from 49.3 points before surgery to 81.8at follow-up. The mean maximum flexion angle improved from 107.8° to 112.9°. The causes of TKA revision comprised 2 mechanical loosening, 1 late infection, and 1 fracture of the femoral condyle. The survival rate of TKA was 96.6% at 15 years. Fifty-five patients were not able to walk outdoors. The rate of inability to ambulate outdoors was 38.3 per 1000 person-years. The survival rate of ability to ambulate outdoors were 48.8% at 15 years. Preoperative advanced age, low body weight, steroid use and non-use of biologics were identified as risk factors for inability to ambulate outdoors.

The reason for the inability to walk outdoors was thought to be mainly due to deterioration of RA, comorbidity or muscular weakness associated with aging, rather than knee dysfunction.

Outcome measures that lack sensitivity for the detection of clinical changes early after surgery for capitellar osteochondritis dissecans (OCD) make it difficult to determine the optimal treatment for these defects. We sought to evaluate the early responsiveness of patient-reported outcomes measurement information system (PROMIS) scores in a cohort of patients operatively treated for capitellar OCD.

Four PROMIS questionnaires (mobility, upper extremity [UE], pain interference, and peer relations) were electronically administered to patients treated for capitellar OCD at a single tertiary academic medical center between January 1, 2015, and July 1, 2018. The questionnaires were administered at the initial preoperative outpatient clinic visit as well as at the 2-week, 6-week, and final return-to-play (RTP) visits.

Twenty-nine patients (31 elbows, mean age 12.9 years) with available preoperative and postoperative PROMIS data were included. The mean final follow-up period was 26 weeks. Compared with that before surgery, there was a significant improvement in the mobility, pain interference, and UE scores at 6 weeks following surgery.
