Autoinducer 2 (AI-2) is a ubiquitous metabolite but, instead of acting as a "universal signal," relatively few phenotypes have been associated with it, and many scientists believe AI-2 is often a metabolic byproduct rather than a signal. Here, the aim is to present evidence that AI-2 influences both biofilm formation and motility (swarming and chemotaxis), using Escherichia coli as the model system, to establish AI-2 as a true signal with an important physiological role in this bacterium. However, amorphous indium gallium zinc oxide (IGZO) fabricated at room temperature is vulnerable in subsequent manufacturing processes, such as etching and sputtering; this limits IGZO thin film transistors' (TFTs) use in commercial products. In this paper, we prepared a c-axis crystallized IGZO thin film by Radio Frequency (RF) sputtering at 180 °C, with a 50% O2 ratio and 110 W power. XRD images show that the crystallized film has an obvious diffraction peak near 31°, and the spacing between the crystal surfaces was calculated to be ≈0.29 nm. The HRTEM map confirmed the above results. The stability of IGZO thin films was investigated by etching them with an acid solution. The crystalline IGZO films exhibited better acid corrosion resistance, and their anticorrosion performance was 74% higher than that of amorphous IGZO (a-IGZO) films, indicating the crystalline IGZO film can provide more stable performance in applications.The present study focuses on the effect of 1% Zr addition on the microstructure, tensile properties and superplasticity of a forged SP700 alloy. The results demonstrated that Zr has a significant effect on inhibiting the microstructural segregation and increasing the volume fraction of β-phase in the forged SP700 alloy. After annealing at 820 °C for 1 h and aging at 500 °C for 6 h, the SP700 alloy with 1% Zr showed a completely globular and fine microstructure. The yield strength, ultimate tensile strength and tensile elongation of the alloy with optimized microstructure were 1185 MPa, 1296 MPa and 10%, respectively. The superplastic deformation was performed at 750 °C with an elongation of 1248%. The improvement of tensile properties and superplasticity of the forged SP700 alloy by Zr addition was mainly attributed to the uniform and fine globular microstructures.The aim of this study was to identify an easily reliable prognostic score that selects the subset of advanced soft tissue sarcoma (ASTS) patients with a higher benefit with trabectedin in terms of time to progression and overall survival. A retrospective series of 357 patients with ASTS treated with trabectedin as second- or further-line in 19 centers across Spain was analyzed. First, it was confirmed that patients with high growth modulation index (GMI > 1.33) were associated with the better clinical outcome. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to identify factors associated with a GMI > 1.33. Thus, GEISTRA score was based on metastasis free-interval (MFI ≤ 9.7 months), Karnofsky 1.33. It is well accepted that PEPC genes are expressed in plants upon stress. PEPC also supports the biosynthesis of biocompatible osmolytes in many plant species under osmotic stress. There are five isoforms of PEPC found in peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.), namely, AhPEPC1, AhPEPC2, AhPEPC3, AhPEPC4, and AhPEPC5. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) analysis revealed that the gene expression patterns of these AhPEPC genes were different in mature seeds, stems, roots, flowers, and leaves. The expression of all the plant type PEPC (PTPCs) (AhPEPC1, AhPEPC2, AhPEPC3, and AhPEPC4) was relatively high in roots, while the bacterial type PEPC (BTPC) (AhPEPC5) showed a remarkable expression level in flowers. Principal component analysis (PCA) result showed that AhPEPC3 and AhPEPC4 are correlated with each other, indicating comparatively associations with roots, and AhPEPC5 have a very close relationship with flowers. In order to investigate the function of these AhPEPCs, the fragments of these five AhPEPC cDNA were cloned and expressed in Escherichia coli (E. coli). The recombinant proteins contained a conserved domain with a histidine site, which is important for enzyme catalysis. Results showed that protein fragments of AhPEPC1, AhPEPC2, and AhPEPC5 had remarkable expression levels in E. coli. These three recombinant strains were more sensitive at pH 9.0, and recombinant strains carrying AhPEPC2 and AhPEPC5 fragments exhibited more growth than the control strain with the presence of PEG6000. Our findings showed that the expression of the AhPEPC fragments may enhance the resistance of transformed E. coli to osmotic stress.
