Our review highlights the emerging importance of targeting the IL-23/IL-17 axis in SLE and RA patients. The long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are the most prevalent and functionally diverse member of the non-coding RNA (ncRNA). The lncRNA has previously been considered to be a form of transcriptional "noise" but recent studies have found that the lncRNA to be associated with various disease conditions. It has also been found to play important roles in various physiological processes such as haemopoiesis, where lncRNA is reported to act as a fine-tuner of this very important process. To date, the effects of dysregulated lncRNA in thalassaemia has not been fully explored. This review article focuses on the possible roles of dysregulated lncRNAs in the pathogenesis of thalassaemia.Chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML) provides an illustrative disease model for both molecular pathogenesis of cancer and rational drug therapy. Imatinib mesylate (IM), a BCR-ABL1 targeted tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) drug, is the first line gold standard drug for CML treatment. Conventional cytogenetic analysis (CCA) can identify the standard and variant Philadelphia (Ph) chromosome, and any additional complex chromosome abnormalities at diagnosis as well as during treatment course. Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) is especially important for cells of CML patients with inadequate or inferior quality metaphases or those with variant Ph translocations. CCA in conjunction with FISH can serve as powerful tools in all phases of CML including the diagnosis, prognosis, risk stratification and monitoring of cytogenetic responses to treatment. Molecular techniques such as reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) is used for the detection of BCR-ABL1 transcripts at diagnosis whereas quantitativeistance in adult CML patients.Duodenal varices are a serious complication of portal hypertension. Bleeding from duodenal varices is rare, but when bleeding does occur, it is massive and can be fatal. Unfortunately, the optimal therapeutic modality for duodenal variceal bleeding is unclear. This paper presents a patient with duodenal variceal bleeding that was managed successfully using percutaneous trans-splenic variceal obliteration (PTVO). https://www.selleckchem.com/products/talabostat.html A 56-year-old man with a history of alcoholic cirrhosis presented with a 6-day history of melena. Emergency esophagogastroduodenoscopy revealed a large, bluish mass with a nipple sign in the second portion of the duodenum. Coil embolization of the duodenal varix was performed via a trans-splenic approach (i.e., PTVO). The patient no longer complained of melena after treatment. The duodenal varix was no longer visible at the follow-up esophagogastroduodenoscopy performed three months after PTVO. The use of PTVO might be a viable option for the treatment of duodenal variceal bleeding.Mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma predominantly involves the gastrointestinal tract, with the stomach being the most commonly affected site. Colonic involvement is quite rare. Hence, the etiology, clinical characteristics, treatment, and outcome of colonic MALT lymphoma are not well established. This paper reports a case of MALT lymphoma of the transverse colon, presenting as a subepithelial tumor in a 50-year-old woman. The patient received 3,060 cGy in 17 fractions with external beam radiation therapy for three weeks. At 2 months after radiation therapy, a colonoscopy examination revealed complete resolution and a scar change of the lesion. The follow-up at 24 months revealed no evidence of tumor recurrence after radiation therapy.Low-grade endometrial stromal sarcoma (LG-ESS) is a very rare mesenchymal neoplasm of the uterus. LG-ESS can recur or metastasize to extrauterine sites, such as the pelvis, peritoneal cavity, and vagina, but rarely to the lung, liver, heart, bone, and colon. A 42-year-old female patient was transferred from an outside clinic for an evaluation of constipation. EUS revealed a 5 cm hypoechoic lesion with a regular margin, probably arising from the 4th layer (muscular propria) at the sigmoid colon level. CT revealed a 7-cm homogenous enhancing mass lesion at the pelvic cavity and multiple enlarged lymph nodes in the sigmoid mesocolon. The patient underwent an anterior resection, and the diagnosis based on the biopsy result was LG-ESS. After a multidisciplinary discussion, she underwent a bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy. Small nodules found in the endometrium were identified as LG-ESS by a biopsy. This paper reports a case of metastatic LG-ESS presenting as a solitary sigmoid tumor without intrauterine lesions through preoperative examinations and discusses the characteristics of this neoplasm with reference to the relevant literature.

Limited data is available in Saudi Arabia (SA) regarding the prevalence of functional dyspepsia (FD) symptoms and its subtypes, as defined by the ROME IV criteria. This study evaluated the burden of self-reported FD symptoms in the adult general population of SA and the current clinical practices.

A web-based national cross-sectional health survey of the general population of SA was conducted using the Rome IV Diagnostic Questionnaire for Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders in Adults with additional questions on the presence of symptoms compatible with functional heartburn (FH) and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). The quality of life and somatization questionnaires were also included.

Overall, 3,114 adults completed the questionnaire, but 303 (9.7%) were excluded due to inconsistent responses. Of the 2,811 consistent responders, 532 (18.3%) fulfilled the Rome IV criteria for FD symptoms. These were distributed into the FD subtypes as follows 208 (7.4%) had postprandial distress syndrome, 228 (8.1%) had epigastric pain syndrome, and 96 (3.4%) had the overlapping variant. IBS-like symptoms were reported in 232 (44%) and FH in 102 (19%) 19% (102) of the subjects with functional dyspepsia. H. pylori-associated dyspepsia was reported by 25% (87/348). High somatization, lower quality of life scores, younger age, and female sex were associated more with the FD symptoms participants than those without. Approximately 1/5 respondents used over-the-counter medications to relieve the FD symptoms.

In this population-based survey, FD affected almost 1/5 of the responding adult population in SA, which was less than previously reported.
