The present study aimed to investigate the association between resilience and cognitive function of middle-aged Koreans in a longitudinal setting.

We utilized the baseline and 5-year follow-up data from the Cardiovascular and Metabolic Diseases Etiology Research Center study. The final number of participants included in the analysis was 397 (108 men, 289 women, mean age 55.4 years) who had valid measurements of both baseline resilience and Mini-Mental State Estimation at follow-up. The resilient people at baseline were operationally defined as the people who had at least one negative experience in the Life Experience Survey without depression, which was defined as a Beck Depressive Inventory-Ⅱ score of 20 or above. Cognitive function was evaluated by the Korean version of the Mini-Mental State Examination in both surveys. A generalized linear model was applied after adjusting for confounders. CY-09 clinical trial The association between resilience and cognitive function was further analyzed using stratification by median age and education level.

At follow-up, only in men, the resilience group showed a higher MMSE level compared to the reference group (β=1.3, p=0.002). Stratified by median age, both the younger group (β=1.2, SE=0.5, p=0.031) and the older group among men (β=2.1, SE=0.7, p=0.0069) showed a positive association between resilience and cognitive functions. However, when stratified by education level, only the low-education group presented the association (β=1.7, SE=0.5, p=0.002). In women, no significant results were found.

This study had limited number of participants.

Resilience at baseline was associated with more well-preserved cognitive function at follow-up in men.

Nonsuicidal self-injury (NSSI) is related to childhood abuse, family relationships, interpersonal relationships, personality, but the interaction between them is still unclear, and how they interact in major depressive disorder (MDD).

Collected data from 444 undergraduate degree students with MDD participated. Used the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire, Childhood Trauma Questionnaire, Interpersonal Relationship Comprehensive Diagnostic Scale, and Family Assessment Device to assess the patients' psychosocial factors. NSSI behavior was assessed through interviews. Use the Chi-square test, Wilcoxon rank-sum test, Kruskal-Wallis H-test, Distance Correlation, Structural Equation Mode for data analysis.

Overall, 34.2% of patients with MDD had a history of NSSI. MDD patients with a history of NSSI had significant differences in psychoticism, neuroticism, emotional abuse, physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional neglect, troubles in conversation, ability to make friends and family roles. Among these factors, psychoticism was most related to NSSI, and child abuse, interpersonal relationships and family roles played a variety of roles in mediating the relationship with NSSI.

Psychosocial factors affect the occurrence of NSSI through chain intermediary effects.

These processing and cooking methods not only can affect the taste, texture, flavor and nutrients of these vegetables, but also influence the levels of some important bioactive compounds, such as glucosinolates (GLSs). Glucoraphanin (GLR) is the most abundant GLSs and its hydrolyzed component, sulforaphane (SLR), is the most powerful anti-cancer compound in brassica vegetables. In this review, we find out that varied treatments impact the retention of GLR and the formation of SLR differently. Be specific, 1) freezing can avoid the losses of GLR while short-time microwaving, short-time steaming and fermentation promote the biotransformation from GLR to SLR; 2) Boiling and blanching cause the largest losses of GLR and SLR, while freezing significantly protect their losses.; 3) Stir-frying varies the levels of GLR and SLR in different cooking conditions.A multi-residue method for the simultaneous analysis of a wide range of pesticides in raisins using liquid and gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS and GC-MS/MS) has been validated. Pesticides are extracted from raisins with ethyl acetate, followed by centrifugation. The validation study was in accordance with DG SANTE guidelines. Validation experiments have been performed in both analytical instruments. A total number of 314 pesticides were spiked in raisins of organic farming at two spiking levels for GC-MS/MS (0.025 and 0.1 mg/kg), and at three spiking levels for LC-MS/MS (0.005, 0.05, and 0.1 mg/kg) with 6 replicates at each concentration. The scope of validation included linearity, limits of quantification (LOQ), accuracy, precision, and matrix effects (%) for each pesticide. The validated method was then applied for the analysis of 37 commercial raisin samples purchased from the market. For the evaluation of the results, processing factors (PFs) have been applied to derive the amount ofisins, in the official controls of pesticide residues in food.TiO2 nanoparticles known as E171 are one controversial food additive due to its potential toxicity. In this work, the main hypothesis is that the proteins adsorbed on the TiO2 nanoparticles prevent their aggregation and favor the cell penetration. To do so, the TiO2 nanoparticles were coated with gelatin and β-lactoglobulin to reach interfacial concentrations about 0.25 mg/mg and 0.32 mg/mg, respectively. The measurement of NP size showed that the protein coating improve the colloidal stability of TiO2 nanoparticles. The FTIR analysis suggests that the β-lactoglobulin structure is modified after adsorption. The penetration of TiO2 penetration inside human intestinal epithelial cells was shown and quantify by using confocal Raman microscopy. The promoting role of the protein coating on the cell penetration was demonstrated for both the gelatin and β-lactoglobulin. Finally, the results allow establishing a correlation between the ability of proteins to prevent NP aggregation and the cell penetration.
