Path of Exile Item Upgrading

Players can upgrade their weapons and equipment by adding new accessories. They can also improve its base stats or add additional benefits. To upgrade items, the player must have the item in their inventory and access the kiln.

Usually items with weak bases (like rings) can be upgraded to a more powerful base, while items with strong bases such as eth titans aren't affected significantly in their stats after being upgraded.

Upgrade components

Upgrade components can be added to weapons, armors, trinkets, and gathering tools. They can be used as an attribute benefit, or extra effect, while the equipment is in use. They can be bought from vendors, or found in loot, thrown away by enemies or as a reward for missions or chests. Certain upgrades also have cosmetic effects. Most upgrades require that the equipment be at a certain level to upgrade.

To upgrade an armor, weapon or other item in the game, players must select it and then click on the Upgrade button on the toolbar. This will show on the right-hand side of the screen a preview showing the expected upgrade stats as well as the components or materials required for the upgrade.





There are three kinds of upgrade components including universal upgrades, prefix upgrades, and suffix upgrades. Universal upgrades, such as gems, can be used on any kind of equipment. They provide a smaller bonus than upgrade components that have a type limitation. Infusions are gems that are only available in equipment that is legendary or ascended. They provide the same benefits as jewels, but cannot be used in other equipment. If the player upgrades their gathering tool, and then replaces the glyphs by a different one the old one will be returned to their inventory. If you replace another upgrade component the item will be destroyed, with the exception for the inscriptions that can be swapped freely.

Leveling

The upgrade system in Path of Exile has some significant differences from earlier versions. Gear is now broken down into tracks and items can be upgraded a certain number of times before they are "leveled out." The upgrade costs increase with each level, however the materials required do not. This allows players to concentrate their efforts on a couple of important items to maximize their impact, rather than spreading out the upgrade costs across several items.

Engineers may utilize a level to measure the height of the building to an established location, such as a benchmark. This method is known as a "level loop." It involves taking readings with the level, backsighting rod, and then turning the level to take the foresighting rod reading. Rerolling

This changed with the recent patch. Priority affixes were removed and all upgrades have the same chance of rolling each statistic. This can be a great or a negative thing depending on your requirements and expectations from your equipment.
