World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading

Upgrades can increase the value of weapons, armors and rings. They also increase bonuses such as PvE damage and crit chance.

For instance a weapon that has the upgrade template that ends in % will suffer an attack damage of 3% each time it is upgraded (relative to its previous value).

The cost for upgrading items increases when they reach the item's current level. The cost increases as the item level increases.

Components

Upgrade components are items that can be slotted into weapons, armor, and trinkets to provide an additional stat boost or effect while they're in use. They can be obtained through crafting, purchasing from vendors or trading with other players or looting. Some upgrades have special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can only be applied to devices that have slots. The item must be at least upgraded to blue level before the component can be applied. Unlike other mods, upgrade components can only be used once and can't be used multiple times or replaced with upgrades. Infusions and enrichments are a special kind of upgrade component that is used to upgrade non-amulet ascended or legendary equipment, as well as some of the back items that are not ascending. Infusions and Enrichments can be obtained by salvaging equipment from the ascended state or completing a mission in the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.

A suffix or prefix can be added to an upgrade, thereby changing the name of the item it is used on (for example 'Canthan Armor Insignia,' becomes Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). These upgrades can be purchased by purchasing them from the cash shop or obtaining them from enemies when upgrading other gear.

Each upgrade increases the likelihood that a higher-tier version of the item will be available during the next reset. This gives players an incentive to upgrade their gear, even when they're not sure what will be improved following the reset.

Whether a boost upgrade is successful or not, the process may be costly and there is a high risk that the item may become obsolete or even break if it fails; a failure to upgrade can destroy Upgrade Crystals and Assist Powder, as well as the upgraded item. Cash shop items can be used to reduce or eliminate the possibility of failure. Some upgrades also offer a bonus if they are reinserted.

Glyphs

Glyphs can be used to improve the Paragon Board by placing them in sockets with special functions. Every upgradeable item is assigned a level that determines the final stats. Upgraded items can be upgraded until they reach a maximum level of ilvl 385. Each level of an item requires a different number of components and the cost of upgrading increase as the item gets upgraded.

Certain upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient is obtained from finishing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be purchased from NPCs or on the upgrade tab in the crafting table. Each Upgrade Recipe that is completed earns a number of Technology Points. These points can be used to the upgrading of an item. Once enough points are earned you will be eligible to claim the upgrade and also receive the bonuses.

When an individual player upgrade the equipment they have the original item will be replaced by an item that is new. The same armor can be transformed into a weapon or a shield when upgraded. The new item will also come with a bonus of its own. This could be a drawback in that the item could increase in price even if you don't need it.

Upgrades to items can be rerolled, provided that the player has enough reroll tokens to do so. This causes the item to be exchanged for a new one, which will have a level 1 base and a completely different set of bonuses. This is a good option for certain items, however it's not something that should be performed frequently, since it could waste many resources.

Some upgrades can be rerolled multiple times which increases their value and giving players the ability to alter their equipment. The item upgrader lets players increase the level of their equippable equipment (armor weapons, armor trinkets, and weapons) above ilvl385 by presenting the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades to armor set pieces increase its base defense and weapon upgrades items increase their base damage as well as their strength and dexterity.

The amount of resources needed to upgrade an item is based on the rarity rating and the number of upgrade slots. The cost of upgrading non-premium equipment is equivalent to its base value.
