World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Upgrades to items are a method to boost the stats of an item. Depending on the upgrade type, it may boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity and boost additional stats.

The process of upgrading gear in The War Within requires a specified number of Flightstones and Crests and each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a set amount.

Item Level

When an item is upgraded, its basic stats increase in value. This value is the total of all the leveled up benefits (attack, magic attack and defense). The cost of upgrading items can be high depending on the upgrader you choose and what kind of upgrade you decide to do. This is due to the number of perks that have to be modified to upgrade an item.

Item level is a popular measurement of power and is visible on all tooltips of items. It is also used as a gating requirement while queueing for dungeons, scenarios and raids, and to limit the amount of PvP gear a player can wear (since PvP is capped at a lower level). The average level of the item is listed on the character sheet.

When deciding whether to buy or sell gear players can look at the item level. It's an excellent indicator of an item's quality and the amount of damage it will be able to deal. The item level can also be used to evaluate items when examining a vendor's inventory.

The item level can be checked by pressing the ALT key on PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will display the complete description of the item, as well as its ilvl. It can also be located by hovering over an item using the mouse cursor and typing /itemlevel into chat.

There are several theories about how the item level is calculated. One theory is that the item level is a number derived from a formula that determines the amount an item's stats are worth. It takes into consideration the fact that different perks have different values and gems in sockets add to the overall value of the item. This process could result in a calculated amount for the item's level, which is usually quite close to Blizzard's real level of the item.

This isn't the only thing that affects the value of an item. The degree of the area in which the item dropped can also change its stats. For instance it can add a level to the item's haste or crit rating. Items that drop in higher-level situations will have higher ilvl.

Item Stats

Stats on an item are a significant component of what makes or breaks an item for players. The game utilizes them in various ways to encourage players to not limit themselves to one weapon and to motivate players to experiment with other weapons. The base stats on a weapon are enhanced by the weapon's stat modifications which are then boosted by the player's level.

Upgrades to the item add by increasing certain stats on the item. The rarity of an item determines its cost of upgrading. For instance, a grey or white item will only be upgraded once, while items with rare levels will be upgraded multiple times at higher prices.

Another method of altering the stats on an item is by affixing it. They are stat boosts that can be added by the player to an item. The affixes could do things like give the item extra damage, or add a unique capability to the item (such as reviving dead or decreasing cooldowns), or make the item unique by adding an exclusive name to the item.

All affixes can be currently re-rolled by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button. This procedure will cost the player a certain amount of gold and other items which can be used to add to the upgrade gauge in the same way as other rerolling options.

Players can upgrade an item by specific stats, or reroll attaches. The range of stats is determined by the item's level. However, all items will include at least one stat within that range unless they are an exclusive item or the item is a God Roll from a boss in a raid.

Another thing that could change is the option to upgrade equipment without having to reroll the attaches, or select which stats to boost. As with the base equipment, this would have to be done per item, and the interface for item comparison would not display all the possible stats at once.

Item Luck

The Luck stat for a player adds up to increase the chances of item discoveries, the properties spawned on loot drops and the intensity of the properties. However, it doesn't directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives players an opportunity to get better equipment earlier in the game. This is particularly beneficial in the early game, since players tend to prioritize the scaling of weapons and defenses over raw damage gains.

Luck can also increase the likelihood of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. item upgrader is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chance of upgrading, which increases with each level of the item and can be further increased by using an anti-material, such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

Armor, shields and weapons come with the default Luck value of 40. These items can then be upgraded with golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the item's material type) to grant an additional +40 Luck or to increase the existing Luck of the item up to 140.

Certain items, such as the Hollow-infused weapon can also be outfitted to increase the damage dealt by any ability that causes damage by 5%. These items can be purchased in the shop or created by using the appropriate ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades work. Cash shop items can be used to boost the chance of success of an upgrade or to prevent players from losing their item if it does not work.

When you upgrade an item, the success rate is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the chance of completing the upgrade successfully, and can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The chance of success can only be increased so much, and the likelihood that an upgrade will fail cannot be greater than 100%..

The luck of an item may affect the effectiveness of an upgrade. Each item has a success rate of 25%, and every item with Luck increases the chance of success by 5%.

It is important to note that upgrade items are rendered above the inventory items, so enchantment glint and other effects may be obscured by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
