Meckel's diverticula result from incomplete obliteration and regression of the omphaloenteric duct and are the most common congenital intestinal malformations. Many Meckel's diverticula remain asymptomatic and are discovered as incidental findings. They present a diagnostic challenge.

We report the case of a 35-year-old man who presented with an acute abdomen and ileus. Computed tomography of the abdomen showed a mechanical small bowel ileus. There was a calibre jump in the terminal ileum with a round endoluminal definable hyperdense structure of almost 2 cm in diameter.

Although scales can worsen tree condition, some tree species tolerate moderate scale densities. Scales are prey for many natural enemies. Therefore, scale-infested trees may conserve natural enemies in their canopies and in nearby plants. We examined if scale-infested oaks-Quercus phellos L.-hosted more natural enemies than scale-uninfested oaks-Q. acutissima Carruth. and Q. lyrata Walter in Raleigh, NC. USA. We also tested if natural enemies were more abundant in holly shrubs (Ilex spp.) planted below scale-infested compared to scale-uninfested oaks. We collected natural enemies from the canopies of both tree types and from holly shrubs planted below these trees. To determine if tree type affected the abundance of natural enemies that passively dispersed to shrubs, we created hanging cup traps to collect arthropods as they fell from trees. To determine if natural enemies became more abundant on shrubs below scale-infested compared to scale-uninfested trees over short time scales, we collected natural enemies from holly shrubs below each tree type at three to six-day intervals. Scale-infested trees hosted more natural enemies than scale-uninfested trees and shrubs below scale-infested trees hosted more natural enemies than shrubs under scale-uninfested trees. Natural enemy abundance in hanging cup traps did not differ by tree type; however, shrubs underneath scale-infested trees accumulated more natural enemies than shrubs under scale-uninfested trees in six to nine days. Tolerating moderate pest densities in urban trees may support natural enemy communities, and thus biological control services, in shrubs below them.

Texture analysis and machine learning methods are useful in distinguishing between benign and malignant tissues.

To discriminate benign from malignant or metastatic mediastinal lymph nodes using F-18 fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) and contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) texture analyses with machine learning and determine lung cancer subtypes based on the analysis of lymph nodes.

Suitable texture features were entered into the algorithms. Features that statistically significantly differed between the lymph nodes with small cell lung cancer (SCLC), adenocarcinoma (ADC), and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) were determined.

The most successful algorithms were decision tree with the sensitivity, specificity, and area under the curve (AUC) values of 89%, 50%, and 0.692, respectively, and naive Bayes (NB) with the sensitivity, specificity, and AUC values of 50%, 81%, and 0.756, respectively, for PET/CT, and NB with the sensitivity, specificity, and AUC values of 10%, 96%, and 0.515, respectively, and logistic regression with the sensitivity, specificity, and AUC values of 21%, 83%, and 0.631, respectively, for CT. In total, 13 features were able to differentiate SCLC and ADC, two features SCLC and SCC, and 33 features ADC and SCC lymph node metastases in PET/CT. One feature differed between SCLC and ADC metastases in CT.

Videofluoroscopic swallow studies (VFSS) utilizing penetration-aspiration (P-A) scoring assesses airway protection in people. On VFSS, penetration (ingesta or secretions immediately cranial to the vocal folds) and aspiration (material caudal to the vocal folds) are associated with increased risk of lung injury in people. Penetration-aspiration (P-A) scoring has been validated in animal models, but the incidence of P-A, clinical signs (CS), and dysphagic disorders associated with P-A in dogs are unknown.

Using VFSS, identify the incidence of P-A, compare CS between dogs with and without P-A, and identify predisposing dysphagic abnormalities for P-A.

Sequential VFSS and associated medical records from dogs presenting to the veterinary teaching hospitals at Auburn University (n=53) and the University of Missouri (n=47) were retrospectively reviewed. These various designs communicate the same limited amount of information to drivers about their ACC system and it is unclear which HMI designs impact driver distraction the least or how their design could be modified to help drivers develop more accurate mental models of their ACC system. Using a user-centred design (UCD) approach, we designed a speedometer to inform drivers about some of the system's capabilities and then invited 23 drivers to use ACC in a low-fidelity driving simulator to compare the usability of three HMIs using eye-tracking, response times, and qualitative data. Our attempt at designing an intuitive and more informative speedometer received mixed results, but design recommendations are given regarding the indication of the set target speed, set time gap between vehicles (headway distance), and system mode (conventional or adaptive cruise). Practitioner summary Manufacturers' heterogeneous designs of their visual HMIs for the ACC systems may impact driver distraction in different ways. We used usability testing to compare three HMIs in a driving simulator and make several design recommendations to indicate speed, time gap, and system mode in a more efficient way. Esophageal post-reflux swallow-induced peristaltic wave index (PSPWI) and mean nocturnal baseline impedance (MNBI), novel impedance-based markers of reflux burden, are associated with esophageal dynamics. We aim to investigate the characteristics of PSPWI and MNBI in Chinese refractory gastroesophageal reflux disease (RGERD) patients with different esophageal dynamic changes.

201 RGERD and 76 functional heartburn patients, undergone off-PPI endoscopy, esophageal manometry and impedance-pH monitoring, were included. Comparisons of conventional and novel impedance-pH metrics were made among different esophageal dynamics groups. Receiver operating-characteristic analyses were utilized to evaluate the diagnostic efficacy of PSPWI and MNBI in differentiating abnormal esophageal dynamics. Correlations were used to investigate their associated factors.

Consistently, treatment of multiple myeloma patients with therapeutic proteasome inhibitors may induce cardiac failure; yet the effects promoted by heart-targeted proteasome dysfunction are not completely understood. We report here that heart-targeted proteasome knockdown in the fly experimental model results in increased proteome instability and defective mitostasis, leading to disrupted cardiac activity, systemic toxicity, and reduced longevity. These phenotypes were partially rescued by either heart targeted- or by dietary restriction-mediated activation of autophagy. Supportively, activation of autophagy by Rapamycin or Metformin administration in flies treated with proteasome inhibitors reduced proteome instability, partially restored mitochondrial function, mitigated cardiotoxicity, and improved flies' longevity. These findings suggest that autophagic inducers represent a novel promising intervention against proteasome inhibitor-induced cardiovascular complications.

Early-preterm infants were assessed neurologically at term-corrected age using the Hammersmith neonatal neurological examination. The raw scores of the 34 Hammersmith neonatal neurological examination items were converted to optimality scores. Pairwise comparison of neurobehavioural patterns between early-preterm infants at term-corrected age versus late-preterm and full-term infants at similar gestational ages were made using independent sample t tests. Differences in optimality scores between the three groups were evaluated using one-way analysis of variance.

Sixty-eight early-preterm infants assessed at term-corrected age were compared against 75 late-preterm infants and 133 full-term infants. Mean total optimality scores (±standard deviation) of early-preterm, late-preterm and full-term infants at term-corrected age were 27.
