The Zintl compound, n-type Mg3Sb2, has been extensively investigated as a promising thermoelectric material. However, performance degradation caused by the loss of Mg element during device preparation and service is a main disadvantage in its utilization in thermoelectric devices. To suppress volatilization, diffusion, or reaction of Mg, we designed a graded concentration junction to control the interfacial elemental diffusion and improve the stability of the thermoelectric joint. We utilized the reaction product at the Ni/Mg3.2Sb2Y0.05 interface, the phase Mg4.3Sb3Ni, as a barrier layer material, and prepared Mg4.3Sb3Ni/Mg3.2Sb2Y0.05/Mg4.3Sb3Ni junctions. The results show that the interface behavior of the thermoelectric junction is optimized by the gradation of elemental concentration, thermal expansion coefficient, and work function. The Mg4.3Sb3Ni/Mg3.2Sb2Y0.05/Mg4.3Sb3Ni single-leg device showed high thermal stability at 673 K for 20 days, the contact resistance was stable at around 10 μΩ cm2, and the shear strength was maintained at about 20 MPa. The conversion efficiency of its single-leg device maintains nearly 90% of the best performance after aging at 673 K for 20 days.

The clinical effects of smartphone-based interventions for bipolar disorder (BD) have yet to be established.

To examine the efficacy of smartphone-based interventions in BD and how the included studies reported user-engagement indicators.

We conducted a systematic search on January 24, 2022, in PubMed, Scopus, Embase, APA PsycINFO, and Web of Science. We used random-effects meta-analysis to calculate the standardized difference (Hedges' g) in pre-post change scores between smartphone intervention and control conditions. The study was pre-registered with PROSPERO (CRD42021226668).

The literature search identified 6034 studies. Thirteen articles fulfilled the selection criteria. We included seven RCTs and performed meta-analyses comparing the pre-post change in depressive and (hypo)manic symptom severity, functioning, quality of life, and perceived stress between smartphone interventions and control conditions. There was significant heterogeneity among studies and no meta-analysis reached statistical sipses and psychiatric hospitalizations, as well as the quantification of mood instability. The ISBD Big Data Task Force provides preliminary recommendations to reduce the heterogeneity and achieve more valid evidence in the field.

Acute erythroid leukemia (AEL) is a unique subtype of acute myeloid leukemia characterized by prominent erythroid proliferation whose molecular basis is poorly understood. To elucidate the underlying mechanism of erythroid proliferation, we analyzed 121 AEL using whole-genome, whole-exome, and/or targeted-capture sequencing, together with transcriptome analysis of 21 AEL samples. Combining publicly available sequencing data, we found a high frequency of gains and amplifications involving EPOR/JAK2 in TP53-mutated cases, particularly those having>80% erythroblasts designated as pure erythroid leukemia (10/13). These cases were frequently accompanied by gains and amplifications of ERG/ETS2 and associated with a very poor prognosis, even compared with other TP53-mutated AEL. In addition to activation of the STAT5 pathway, a common feature across all AEL cases, these AEL cases exhibited enhanced cell proliferation and heme metabolism and often showed high sensitivity to ruxolitinib in vitro and in xenograft models, highlighting a potential role of JAK2 inhibition in therapeutics of AEL.

This article is highlighted in the In This Issue feature, p. 369.Catalytic semihydrogenation of internal alkynes using H2 is an attractive atom-economical route to various alkenes, and its stereocontrol has received widespread attention, both in homogeneous and heterogeneous catalyses. Herein, a novel strategy is introduced, whereby a poisoning catalytic thiol is employed as a reversible inhibitor of a ruthenium catalyst, resulting in a controllable H2-based semihydrogenation of internal alkynes. Both (E)- and (Z)-alkenes were obtained efficiently and highly selectively, under very mild conditions, using a single homogeneous acridine-based ruthenium pincer catalyst. Mechanistic studies indicate that the (Z)-alkene is the reaction intermediate leading to the (E)-alkene and that the addition of a catalytic amount of bidentate thiol impedes the Z/E isomerization step by forming stable ruthenium thiol(ate) complexes, while still allowing the main hydrogenation reaction to proceed. Thus, the absence or presence of catalytic thiol controls the stereoselectivity of this alkyne semihydrogenation, affording either the (E)-isomer as the final product or halting the reaction at the (Z)-intermediate. The developed system, which is also applied to the controllable isomerization of a terminal alkene, demonstrates how metal catalysis with switchable selectivity can be achieved by reversible inhibition of the catalyst with a simple auxiliary additive.Controlling container inhabiting mosquitoes such as Aedes aegypti and Ae. albopictus is often difficult because of the requirement to treat small and inaccessible cryptic sources of water where larvae are located. Autodissemination approaches based on the dissemination of insect growth regulators (IGRs) have been demonstrated as an effective means to treat these cryptic larval habitats and provide population control. Autodissemination approaches are attractive because they are based on the mosquitoes disseminating small amounts of IGRs compared to more traditional insecticide applications. While dissemination of small amounts of IGRs seems like an advantage, these approaches could lead to unintended transfer and effects on nontarget insect pollinators by delivering highly potent IGRs to nectar sources. Here we looked for the indirect and direct transfer of pyriproxyfen (PPF) to natural and artificial nectar sources and painted lady butterflies, Vanessa cardui, in semifield cages using the release of treated Ae. albopictus males or an autodissemination station. We also performed persistence tests of PPF in oviposition containers and natural and artificial nectar sources when exposed to laboratory and natural conditions. The data suggest that there is direct and indirect transfer to nectar sources and V. cardui associated with the use of autodissemination approaches. We discuss the results in the context of using autodissemination approaches for mosquito control and the potential risks these approaches may pose to nontarget insect pollinators.

It has been about 30 years since the first health literacy instrument was developed. This study aimed to review all existing instruments to summarize the current knowledge on the development of existing measurement instruments and their possible translation and validation in other languages different from the original languages.

The review was conducted using PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, and Google Scholar on all published papers on health literacy instrument development and psychometric properties in English biomedical journals from 1993 to the end of 2021.

The findings were summarized and synthesized on several headings, including general instruments, condition specific health literacy instruments (disease & content), population- specific instruments, and electronic health. Overall, 4848 citations were retrieved. After removing duplicates (n = 2336) and non-related papers (n = 2175), 361 studies (162 papers introducing an instrument and 199 papers reporting translation and psychometric propertiliteracy as appropriate.

This review highlighted that there were more than enough instruments for measuring health literacy. In addition, we found that a number of instruments did not report psychometric properties sufficiently. However, evidence suggest that well developed instruments and those reported adequate measures of validation could be helpful if appropriately selected based on objectives of a given study. Perhaps an authorized institution such as World Health Organization should take responsibility and provide a clear guideline for measuring health literacy as appropriate.

The progesterone response of the nuclear progesterone receptor plays an important role in the female reproductive system. Changes in the function of the progesterone receptor gene may increase the risk of reproductive cancer. The present study performed a meta-analysis to examine whether the progesterone receptor gene PROGINS polymorphism was a susceptibility factor for female reproductive cancer.

We searched the PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science and EMBASE databases for literature on PROGINS polymorphisms and female reproductive cancer published before September 2020. We evaluated the risk using odds ratios [ORs] and 95% confidence intervals via fixed effects models and random-effects models, which were calculated for all five genetic models. We grouped the analyses by race, cancer, and HWE.

Thirty studies comprised of 25405 controls and 19253 female reproductive cancer cases were included in this meta-analysis. We observed that the Alu insertion polymorphism and the V660L polymorphism were sign racial groups (Dominant model OR = 1.28, 95% CI = 1.01-1.62). Subgroup analysis by cancer showed that the PROGINS polymorphism increased the risk of cancer in the allele model, dominant mode and heterozygous model, but the confidence interval for this result spanned 1 and was not statistically significant. This sensitivity was verified in studies with HWE greater than 0.5.
