Research in commercial agriculture is instrumental to achieve the targets set under the second Sustainable Development Goal (SDG), i.e., 'Zero Hunger by 2030.' Execution of research for the success of commercial agriculture becomes a tedious task and research organizations have been long struggling to assess their performance unequivocally in the face of COVID-19. Any evacuation plan in place to improve the performance, monitoring, and evaluation of a research institute must guarantee that the institute is on the right momentum and let it evades metrics-obsessed research drives during this pandemic. A survey was conducted through the participation of the topmost administrators attached to key research institutes working on agriculture in Sri Lanka to explore the current performance management practices deeply. The conclusions derived from a thematic analysis of the survey data were used to propose a set of solutions that facilitate a well-thought research agenda in a digitally transformed performance management system. The solutions imply that intelligently driven key performance measurements worked by artificial intelligence and big data could be used with policy innovations to support research integrity and assessment security within the coexistence of humans and machines for the well-being of research development in the commercial agriculture sector.

While Veteran homelessness has steadily declined over the last decade, those who continue to be unhoused have complex health and social concerns. Housing instability interferes with access to healthcare, social services, and treatment adherence. Preventing unwanted housing transitions is a public health priority. This study is the first phase of a larger research agenda that aims to test the acceptability and feasibility of smartphone-enabled data collection with veterans experiencing homelessness. In preparation for the development of the smartphone data collection application, we utilized ethnographic methods guided by user-centered design principles to inform survey content, approach to recruitment and enrollment, and design decisions.

We used a case study design, selecting a small sample (

= 10) of veterans representing a range of homelessness experiences based on risk and length of time. Participants were interviewed up to 14 times over a 4-week period, using a combination of qualitative methods. Ations that will be programmed into the smartphone app, participants also provided a broad range of recommendations for how to approach recruitment and enrollment in the future study and design features that are important to consider for veterans with a range of physical abilities, concerns with trust and privacy, and vulnerability to loss or damage of smartphones.

Determining the stability of RNA in blood samples exposed to high ambient temperatures (>30°C) is necessary for deploying home-sampling in settings with elevated temperatures (e.g., studying physiological response to natural disasters that occur in warm locations or in the summer). Recently, we have developed homeRNA, a technology that allows for self-blood sampling and RNA stabilization remotely. homeRNA consists of a lancet-based blood collection device, the Tasso-SST™ which collects up to 0.5 ml of blood from the upper arm, and a custom-built stabilization transfer tube containing RNAlater™. In this study, we investigated the robustness of our homeRNA kit in high temperature settings via two small pilot studies in Doha, Qatar (no. participants = 8), and the Western and South Central USA during the summer of 2021, which included a heatw studies, including our ongoing work in Qatar, USA, and Thailand, will continue to test the robustness of homeRNA.

Seventy to 80% of children and adults with ADHD are treated with stimulant medication, with positive response rates occurring for both populations. Medicated ADHD individuals generally show sustained and improved attention, inhibition control, cognitive flexibility, on-task behavior, and cognitive performance. The ethics of ADHD medication use in athletics has been a debated topic in sport performance for a long time. Stimulants are banned from competition in accordance with World Anti-Doping Association and National Collegiate Athletic Association regulations, due to their ability to not only enhance cognitive performance but also exercise performance. Limited research has been conducted looking at the differences in exercise performance variables in unmedicated ADHD verses medicated ADHD. Not all ADHD athletes choose stimulant medication in their treatment plan due to personal, financial, or other reasons. Non-stimulant treatment options include non-stimulant medication and behavioral therapy. However, the use of caffeinated compounds and exercise has both independently been shown to be effective in the management of ADHD symptoms in human studies and animal models. This mini review will discuss the effect of exercise and caffeine on neurobehavioral, cognitive, and neurophysiological factors, and exercise performance in ADHD athletes, and whether exercise and caffeine should be considered in the treatment plan for an individual with ADHD.

Clinical assessment of consciousness relies on behavioural assessments, which have several limitations. Hence, disorder of consciousness (DOC) patients are often misdiagnosed. In this work, we aimed to compare the repetitive assessment of consciousness performed with a clinical behavioural and a Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) approach.

For 7 weeks, sixteen DOC patients participated in weekly evaluations using both the Coma Recovery Scale-Revised (CRS-R) and a vibrotactile P300 BCI paradigm. To use the BCI, patients had to perform an active mental task that required detecting specific stimuli while ignoring other stimuli. We analysed the reliability and the efficacy in the detection of command following resulting from the two methodologies.

Over repetitive administrations, the BCI paradigm detected command following before the CRS-R in seven patients. Four clinically unresponsive patients consistently showed command following during the BCI assessments.

To characterize the topological properties of gray matter (GM) and functional networks in end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis to provide insights into the underlying mechanisms of cognitive impairment.

In total, 45 patients and 37 healthy controls were prospectively enrolled in this study. All subjects completed resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) and diffusion kurtosis imaging (DKI) examinations and a Montreal cognitive assessment scale (MoCA) test. Differences in the properties of GM and functional networks were analyzed, and the relationship between brain properties and MoCA scores was assessed. Cognitive function was predicted based on functional networks by applying the least squares support vector regression machine (LSSVRM) and the whale optimization algorithm (WOA).

We observed disrupted topological organizations of both functional and GM networks in ESRD patients, as indicated by significantly decreased global measures. Specifically, ESRD patients had impaired nodal efficiency and degree centrality, predominantly within the default mode network, limbic system, frontal lobe, temporal lobe, and occipital lobe.
