tabolism for further clinical research.

These findings were the first evaluation of all these infrequent CYP2C9 and CYP3A4 alleles for sildenafil metabolism; when treating people who carry these CYP2C9 and CYP3A4 variants, there should be more focus on the relation of dose intensity, side effects and therapeutic efficacy when administering sildenafil. The study will provide fundamental data on effect of CYP2C9 and CYP3A4 allelic variation on sildenafil metabolism for further clinical research.

The use of ineffective and poor quality drugs endangers therapeutic treatment and may lead to treatment failure. For desired therapeutic effect, drugs should contain the appropriate amount of active pharmaceutical ingredient and the required physical characteristics.

The aim of this study was to evaluate quality as well as physicochemical bioequivalence of different brands of furosemide tablets marketed in Bahir Dar, Northwest Ethiopia.

Five different brands of furosemide tablets were purchased from community pharmacies in Bahir Dar city, Northwest Ethiopia. The quality control parameters of furosemide tablets were determined by identification, weight variation, disintegration, assay and dissolution tests and the results were compared with USP and BP pharmacopoeial standards. Difference (f1) and similarity (f2) factors were calculated to assess in vitro bioequivalence requirements.

Identification test results revealed that all samples contained the stated active pharmaceutical ingredients. The resultsurosemide brands met the quality specification of weight variation, hardness, friability, dissolution, disintegration and assay. The study also indicated similarity in the dissolution profile of the brands of furosemide tablets with the innovator product. Hence, all of these generic brands could be substituted with the innovator product in clinical practice.

Gastric cancer was still one of the commonly diagnosed cancer types and the third-most common cause of cancer-related death in the world. Gentiopicroside, which is extracted from the

, is commonly used in both traditional treatment and modern clinical care; therefore, its anticancer effects have been attracted more attention. However, the systematic analysis of action mechanism of Gentiopicroside on gastric cancer (GC) has not yet been carried out.

A network pharmacology-based strategy combined with molecular docking studies and in vitro validation was employed to investigate potential targets and molecular mechanism of Gentiopicroside against GC.

Potential targets of Gentiopicroside, as well as related genes of GC, were acquired from public databases. Potential targets, and signaling pathways were determined through bioinformatic analysis, including protein-protein interaction (PPI), the Gene Ontology (GO), and the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG). Subsequently, molecular docking and ce and molecular mechanism of Gentiopicroside against GC. It also provided a promising approach to uncover the scientific basis and therapeutic mechanism of TCM treating for disease.

To determine the operative time and complication rates of resident phacoemulsification surgeries at different time points in training.

Retrospective cross-sectional study at the Department of Ophthalmology of the Philippine General Hospital. All resident-performed elective adult phacoemulsification surgeries from January 1, 2014, to December 31, 2018, were included, while operations with planned anterior or posterior procedures were excluded. Cases were arranged chronologically and divided into time points with 25 cases each. Operative time and complication rates were computed for each time point. As defined by the ICO Ophthalmology Surgical Competency Assessment Rubric (OSCAR), 30 minutes was used to gauge competency based on operative time, while complications were compared to published rates for residents. Results for the first 50 cases, the minimum number required by graduation, were also compared with succeeding cases.

A total of 4635 cases were included. Residents performed an average of 115.9 ± 3 surgeries are performed. However, the minimum required 50 cases is not enough for resident competency based on operative time and complication rates.

To compare differences in clinical dry eye features and meibomian gland health status between dry eye patients from rural and urban populations in Ghana.

We examined 211 (rural=109, urban=102) participants with subjective dry eye symptoms. Tear film break -up time (TBUT), Schirmer's test and ocular surface staining (OSS) were assessed. Symptoms were evaluated using the SPEED II questionnaire. Meibomian glands (MG) in the right eye upper (UL) and lower lids (LL) were imaged using a custom meibographer. MG area was determined by intensity threshold segmentation using Image J software. MG loss (MGL) was also graded based on Pult's grading scheme. Mann-Whitney, Spearman correlation, chi-square and odds analyses were performed; p<0.05 was considered significant.

Rural participants showed greater SPEED scores, reduced TBUT, and lower Schirmer scores, p <0.05. The proportion of rural participants with MGL were significantly more (82.3%) than urban participants (63.3%), p <0.05. They also showed greateto ascertain the MGD and DED situation in Ghana and Africa at large.

The data suggest that the participants from the rural population have worse dry eye and meibomian gland health status than those from the urban population. The significant relationships between the various clinical variables suggest important links between MGD and DED. Subtle differences in the everyday working and living environment could likely account for the differences in the severity of DED and MGD between the two groups. And considering the increased pattern of urbanization, industrialization and modernization and the related environmental effects in Africa, future longitudinal studies on specific environmental risk factors or mediators of DED and MGD are necessary to ascertain the MGD and DED situation in Ghana and Africa at large.

To characterize changes in endothelial cell density and morphology following phacoemulsification combined with either excisional goniotomy with the Kahook Dual Blade (KDB-phaco) or first-generation iStent trabecular microbypass implantation (iStent-phaco).

A single clinical practice.

Twenty-one adult subjects from one center with visually significant cataract and mild-moderate open-angle glaucoma underwent KDB-phaco or iStent-phaco in one eye and the alternate procedure in the fellow eye as part of a prospective, multicenter, randomized trial. Specular microscopy and pachymetry were performed before and 6-29 months after surgery. Parameters analyzed included change from baseline of endothelial cell density (ECD), the coefficient of variation (CV), the percent of hexagonal cells (%HEX), and central corneal thickness (CCT).

Baseline ECD, CV, %HEX, and CCT were similar between groups. A mean (standard deviation) of 18.2 (5.8) months postoperatively (range 12.5-28.7 months), the change from baseline in EC post-operative evaluation of corneal health in eyes undergoing glaucoma surgery.

Both KDB-phaco and iStent-phaco are associated with postoperative ECL, with iStent-phaco producing significantly greater ECL than KDB-phaco. The clinical significance of these findings is unclear, and future studies are warranted to more robustly characterize long-term effects of glaucoma surgical procedures-with and without permanent implants-on ECD and corneal health and to develop evidence-based guidelines for the pre- and post-operative evaluation of corneal health in eyes undergoing glaucoma surgery. The Icare HOME (TA022, Icare Oy, Vanda, Finland) is rebound tonometer recently approved by the US Food and Drug Administration in March 2017 designed for self-measurement of intraocular pressure (IOP). IOP remains a major modifiable risk factor for glaucoma progression; however, IOP measurements typically occur through single office measurements on Goldmann applanation tonometry (GAT) and do not always reveal the complete picture of patient's IOP patterns and daily fluctuations, which are important for accurate diagnosis and evaluation. Numerous studies have now compared the efficacy of the Icare HOME to that of GAT. The objective of this article is to review the existing literature surrounding the Icare HOME tonometer and its efficacy as a self-tonometer in comparison to GAT. The available literature has shown promising results in its accuracy of measuring IOP but suggests cautious usage in patients with central corneal thicknesses or IOP ranges that are outside of a certain range. This article will also provide details and example cases for when the Icare HOME may be most clinically useful.

The purpose of this study was to present an association between the treatment response of diabetic macular edema (DME) to intravitreal ranibizumab (IVR) injections and different morphology patterns using spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT).

This retrospective study included 216 eyes of 142 subjects who received IVR for DME and were observed for at least 2 years. Medical charts and SD-OCT images of consecutive patients were reviewed at baseline, 1, 3, 6, 12, and 24 months after first IVR treatment. The OCT patterns were characterized as diffuse retinal thickening (DRT), cystoid macular edema (CME), serous retinal detachment (SRD), and vitreomacular interface abnormalities (VMIAs). All patients were classified into four groups based on the OCT findings.

For a total of 216 eyes, 36 eyes were classified into the DRT group, 76 in the CME group, 42 in the SRD group, and 62 in the VMIA group. There were significant central macula thickness (CMT) improvements in all groups at the 1st month and the 2nd year, except for the DRT group at the 2nd year. Patients with OCT findings of hyperreflective dots (HRDs), metabolic parameters of hyperlipidemia, and coronary artery disease (CAD) had significantly less improvements in CMT at 2-year follow-up (

=0.029, 0.007, <0.001, respectively).

A trend toward decreased effectiveness after long-term IVR treatment was observed in the DRT group. https://www.selleckchem.com/ Consistent IVR treatment could still achieve favorable improvement in the reduction of CMT in 2-year follow-up in the VMIA group. Different OCT patterns in DME may affect the therapeutic role of anti-VEGF agents and predict the structure outcome.

To report the clinical experience of uveitis associated with Behçet's disease in a cohort of Egyptian patients.

The present study is a retrospective analysis of the medical charts of patients with Behçet's disease, who were referred to a tertiary eye care center in Egypt between June 2010 and June 2018.

The current study included 1301 eyes of 681 patients with Behçet's disease. The mean age of the patients at the time of referral was 27.2 ± 3.9 years. Panuveitis was the most common presentation. About 28% of all involved eyes had a final visual acuity <20/200, by the last follow-up visit.

Behçet's disease is an important cause of uveitis in Egypt, and despite the fact that the prognosis of Behçet's uveitis has globally improved in recent years, the visual outcome in Egypt is still not favorable especially in case of delayed referral to tertiary centers.
