16cm/year (range 2.4 - 8.2 cm/year), which significantly improved to 7.76cm/year (ranging from 4.1 to 12.8 cm/year) after one year of growth hormone treatment (P = 0.020) and to 6.51cm/year at the end of two years.

Our study has shown that growth hormone treatment significantly improves the height standard deviation score of patients with Noonan syndrome over a two-year course of growth hormone therapy without any side effects. Further research is required to analyse the long-term effect of growth hormone therapy in patients with Noonan syndrome, including the impact on final adult height.

Menstrual cycle is considered the fifth vital sign among women. This study aimed to summarize the menstrual disturbances in different endocrine disorders.

In this narrative review, relevant studies (up to December 2019) were searched based on the MeSH keywords diabetes, polycystic ovary syndrome, Cushing's syndrome, thyroid dysfunction, hyperprolactinemia, menstrual cycle, uterine bleeding, and menstruation. Databases used for searching articles included Google Scholar, Scopus, PubMed, and Web of science for observational, experimental, and review studies.

Endocrine disorders trigger the onset of menstrual disturbance across the reproductive lifespan of women. Endocrine glands (pituitary, thyroid, pancreas, adrenal, and ovaries) have a functional role in endocrine regulation of the menstrual cycle. Crenolanib According to available evidence, oligomenorrhea (cycles longer than 35 days) is the most common menstrual disturbance among endocrine disorders (thyrotoxicosis, hypothyroidism, polycystic ovary syndrome, Cushing's syndrome, and diabetes). Complex endocrine pathways play an essential role in a women's menstrual calendar.

The menstrual cycle length and amount of bleeding can be indicative of endocrine disorders. Further studies are needed to identify the unknowns about the association between endocrine disorders and the menstrual cycle.

Poor self-management behavior is one of the causes of the high number of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in Indonesia.

The aim of this study was to measure the effectiveness of TPA-based community empowerment as a form of education in improving the blood glucose control practices of patients with T2DM in Yogyakarta.

This study used quantitative methods with a quasi-experimental non-equivalent pre-posttest control group design. The subjects of this study were "Prolanis member" patients with T2DM in the four primary health care centers in Sleman, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Purposive sampling was done at four primary care in Sleman, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. From 138 T2DM patients, only 102 were eligible to become respondents. The questionnaires were adapted to the recommendations of endocrine experts' associations to measure the level of T2DM patients' knowledge, attitude and practices. Intervention was done for three months, from October to December 2019. Measurements were made before and after the TPA.

Attitude and behavior scores showed a significant increase (P < 0.05) after TPA intervention. Meanwhile, the average score of knowledge after the TPA intervention showed no significant increase (P > 0.05). Good self-management behavior in patients with T2DM was observed in Sleman Regency. Education through TPA based community empowerment should be considered as an appropriate intervention to improve DM management practice. Patients can receive material that is delivered easily because of the relaxed and pleasant environment during TPA.

TPA-based community empowerment can create a relaxed and pleasant environment to improve blood glucose control practices in patients with T2DM.

The study aimed to compare the Modification of Diet in Renal Disease Study (MDRD) and the Epidemiology Collaboration (CKD-EPI) equations for the detection of cardiovascular risk.

Data of 9,970 Tehranian participants aged ≥ 20 years were analyzed. The prevalence of cardiovascular disease (CVD), its risk factors, and 10-year atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) risk were compared across the categories of glomerular filtration rate based on the MDRD and CKD-EPI equations. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) was defined as the estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate (eGFR) < 60 mL/min/1.73 m

according to each equation.

The prevalence of CKD weighted to the 2016 Tehranian urban population was 11.0% (95% confidence interval 10.3 - 11.6) and 9.7% (9.1 - 10.2) according to the MDRD and CKD-EPI equations, respectively. Besides, 8.3% and 1.5% of the participants with CKD

and non-CKD

were reclassified to non-CKD

and CKD

categories, respectively. Participants with CKD

but without CKD

were more likely to be male and older, and more frequently had diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and CVD, when compared to those without CKD according to both equations; they were also more likely to be male, older, and smokers, and had less dyslipidemia and more CVD, when compared to those with CKD by using both equations. In multivariate logistic regression analysis, compared to CKD

, the odds of CKD

were significantly higher for older age and lower for the female gender.

Compared to MDRD, the CKD-EPI equation provides more appropriate detection of cardiovascular risk, which is caused by the reclassification of older individuals and fewer females into lower eGFR categories.

The instruments developed to measure the attitude towards masturbation are scarce, and none of them have been validated in the Spanish adult population. This study aims to propose a short version of the Negative Attitudes Toward Masturbation Inventory (NATMI) and examine their psychometric properties (reliability and evidence of validity) in the Spanish adult population. Method A total of 4,116 heterosexual adults aged 18-83 years (M = 40.58; SD = 12.24; 54.64% women) participated in the study. In addition to the NATMI, they answered other scales to assess sexual attitudes, sexual desire, propensity to become sexually excited/inhibited and sexual functioning. Results Analysis of the construct validity of the NATMI resulted in a reduced version of ten items grouped into a single factor explaining 66% of the variance (ordinal alpha = .95). The evidence of validity is clear, as subjects with negative and positive attitude towards masturbation differed in religiousness, frequency of masturbation, erotophilia, positive attitude towards sexual fantasies, sexual inhibition and sexual functioning. Conclusions The Spanish short version of NATMI provides reliable and valid measures in the Spanish adult population.Gram-negative bacilli can spread from the environment and through food products. This study aimed to characterize ESBL production and virulence genes from multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacilli isolated from specimen collected from the environment, kitchen, and food products. A total of 130 samples were collected at local markets in seven different communities in Benin (Abomey-Calavi, Ouidah, Bohicon, Abomey, Parakou, Djougou, and Grand-Popo). Crenolanib Samples were cultured on McConkey and ChromID™ ESBL agar plates. The isolates were identified by the API 20E gallery. An antibiotic susceptibility test was carried out, and the detection of ESBL production and virulence-associated genes was carried out by Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). link2 The data collected was coded and analyzed using GraphPad prism 7 software and Excel. link= Crenolanib The software R was used to calculate the correlation coefficient between the results of the detection of ESBL+ on agar and by the effect of the double synergy. The results showed that sixty-three (63) bacterial strains were isolated from the 130 samples, of which the dominant species was Chryseomonas luteola (10/63). The kitchen samples were the most contaminated with 36.50%. More than 40% of the isolates were resistant to at least three different classes of antibiotics. Also, blaSHV gene was detected in 33.33% (21/63) of the isolates and in all isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa (5/5%). link3 11.11% (7/63) of isolates were virulent with dominance of the fimH gene, especially with Escherichia coli (83.33%). The kitchen samples showed a high prevalence of ESBL-producing strains with fimH gene. This raises the problem of non-compliance with hygiene rules in community cooking and food handling.Soil-transmitted helminthiasis (STHs) are poverty-related diseases with high prevalence rates in developing countries. The present study aims to describe the epidemiological scenario of STHs in an urban population in the Brazilian Amazon. A cross-sectional survey (n = 349 children aged 1-15 years) was carried out to obtain faecal samples and sociodemographic and sanitation data. Among the children, 143 (41%) were positive for at least one STH. Prevalence rates of infections by A. link2 lumbricoides, T. trichiura, and hookworms were 24.4%, 42.6%, and 9%, respectively. A logistic regression multivariate model showed that infection with A. lumbricoides is significantly more frequent in children aged 11-15 years (odds ratio [OR] = 2.38; 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.15-4.94; p=0.018) and the presence of latrines inside houses is a protection factor against ascariasis (OR = 0.38; 95% CI = 0.17-0.85; p=0.019). Positivity for T. trichiura is higher in the 5-10 (OR = 3.31; 95% IC = 1.85-5.89; p=0.001) and 11-15 age grouraphic and environmental characteristics. The roles of long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) in regulating glioma progression have been widely recognized in recent years. This work was to investigate the roles and associated mechanisms of LINC00526 in glioma progression. LINC00526 expression in glioma tissues and cells and their normal counterparts was measured with quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction method. Functions of LINC00526 in glioma were investigated with in vitro experiments. Moreover, competitive RNA (ceRNA) theory was employed to understand mechanisms of action of LINC00526 in glioma. link3 LINC00526 was found to be decreased in glioma tissues and cell lines compared with their normal counterparts. Silencing the expression of LINC00526 promotes, while forcing its expression, inhibits glioma cell growth and invasion. Mechanism analyses showed LINC00526 functions as a sponge for microRNA-5581-3p (miR-5581-3p) to regulate brain-expressed X-linked 1 (BEX1) expression and, in the end, affects glioma progression. Collectively, our study indicated LINC00526 serves as a tumor-suppressive lncRNA and directly regulates miR-5581-3p/BEX1 axis in glioma.
