Boys and girls attained their MGS at relatively similar ages. However, the timing and sequences of PF spurts, aligned on age-at-MGS, were different between boys and girls. The majority of adolescent girls in rural India lack awareness regarding menstrual hygiene management (MHM), access to sanitary absorbents and necessary facilities in schools, homes, and workplaces. This study evaluated an intervention to strengthen a public health programme aimed to increase the use of safe, sanitary absorbents and knowledge of MHM among tribal adolescent girls. This project was implemented in 202 villages of two sub-districts of Narmada district in Gujarat, India, for one year (2018-2019). The intervention consisted of capacity building of 892 government frontline health workers and teachers, followed by supportive supervision. Convergence with concerned departments was achieved through meetings with stakeholders. "MHM-corners" and "MHM-Committees" were created at schools and Anganwadi-centres to improve access to menstrual absorbents and information. Household surveys of adolescent girls were conducted at baseline (n = 507) and end-line (n = 550) in 27 randomly selected villages to evaluate outcomes. Of 550 girls at the end-line, mean age 16.3 years, 487 (88.5%) were tribal, and 243 (44%) were out-of-school. The primary outcome of interest, the proportion of adolescent girls using safe, sanitary absorbents, increased from 69% to 90.5% (OR 5.19, CI 3.61-7.47). Their knowledge of the uterus as the origin of menstrual blood and hormonal changes as the cause for menstruation improved from 6.3% to 66% (p-value  less then  0.001) and 7.5% to 73% (p-value  less then  0.001), respectively. School absenteeism during menstruation reduced from 24% to 14% (p-value  less then  0.001). It is possible to improve MHM knowledge and practices among adolescent girls from tribal communities by utilising existing government systems. Awareness and access to safe absorbents can lead to safe and hygienic MHM practices.Type IIA topoisomerase (TOP2A) is upregulated in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and its expression is positively correlated with poor prognosis. However, the underlying molecular mechanism of this connection are poorly understood. Hence, the present work aimed to examine the possible mechanisms which may be useful in identifying a potential therapeutic strategy. The differential expression of TOP2A mRNA in HCC as compared with adjacent normal tissue was analyzed using the Oncomine database. The expression levels of TOP2A in HCC specimens and cell lines were assessed by Western blot and RT-qPCR. Stable cell lines were generated to knockdown or overexpress TOP2A, and then cell growth, migration, and invasion were analyzed. Furthermore, this study examined epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) as well as the activation of related pathways. Additionally, the correlation between TOP2A levels and E-cadherin/Snail expression was determined in 72 HCC specimens. Higher expression levels of TOP2A were observed in HCCHCC by promoting EMT through the mediation of the p-ERK1/2/p-SMAD2/Snail pathway. This indicates that TOP2A maybe a potential factor to predict the prognosis of HCC.

Cervical cancer is the third most frequent cancer in Chinese women aged 15-44years old. BLU-554 inhibitor Human papillomavirus (HPV) is recognized as the main etiologic agent of cervical carcinomas. This study aims to better understand the natural history of HPV infections in Chinese women aged 18-25years.

Data from 3,025 control arm women (AS04-HPV-16/18 vaccine trial) were analyzed to assess the probability of progression or clearance from a 6-month persistent infection (6MPI) to a cervical intraepithelial neoplasia grade 2 or greater (CIN2+), and the association with clinical determinants. Data were analyzed using univariate and multivariable Cox models.

A total of 1,324 women with 3,814 HPV infections were included, and 65.7% of the women had at least one 6MPI. Among those 6MPI, 5.0% progressed to CIN2+, while 61.0% cleared within 6months. The risk of progression from 6MPI to CIN2+was substantially higher for oncogenic versus non-oncogenic HPV types.

Oncogenic HPV infections showed lower clearance and higher risk to progress to CIN2+. These findings observed in a population of Chinese women, confirmed previous findings from multinational studies.

Various biophysical methods have been applied to elucidate the conformational patterns of the liquid silk present inside the MSG without removing the sericin layer. This will help us to know the actual features of the in vivo transitional status of the silk in the MSG which travel towards the anterior silk gland (ASG) prior to spinning. The SDS PAGE analysis represented the existence of the both fibroin and sericin bands in the sample. The structural pattern of the MSG liquid silk as revealed by various methods denoted the occurrence of β-sheet component along with some random coil and β-turn components which in turn suggests the transitional state of the liquid silk attributed to the existence of both the crystalline and amorphous contents. The thermo gravimetric study and the aggregation behavior analysis results proposed the occurrence of intermolecular hydrogen bonding between the sericin and fibroin in the MSG. This study will sensitize the better understanding of the behavior of the liquid silk in the MSG of non-mulberry silkworm A. assamensis and will open avenues for various application-based studies of this silk.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. Sarma.Doxorubicin (Dox) is an anthracycline antibiotic that treats a variety of malignancies. Unfortunately, its cardiotoxicity limits its therapeutic usefulness. Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) has effectively treated and prevented various cardiac diseases and toxicities. This study aimed to evaluate the possible antioxidative and anti-apoptotic cardioprotective effects of CoQ10 against doxorubicin-induced histopathological and molecular changes in cardiomyocytes. Twenty-eight adult Wistar rats were divided into positive control, negative control, Dox-treated group, and Dox+CoQ10-treated. On the 16th day after the start of treatment, the hearts of all rats were dissected, and the left ventricles were processed for histological evaluation; immunohistochemical staining with caspase-3 and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS); ultrastructural examination of cardiomyocytes; molecular assessment of proapoptotic gene Bax and anti-apoptotic gene expression Bcl-2; and biochemical study of malondialdehyde (MDA). The Dox-treated group had disorganized cardiomyocytes with increased interstitial space, vacuolated cytoplasm, and multiple small-sized pyknotic nuclei. A significant increase in caspase-3 and iNOS immunoexpression was observed. Ultrastructurally, the mitochondria were large with abnormal shapes, vacuolated cytoplasm, multiple vacuoles and autophagosomes, collagen fibril accumulation, and multiple small hyperchromatic nuclei. The intercalated discs were disorganized with loss of desmosome junction. The cardiomyocytes also showed significantly increased MDA levels and upregulation of Bax/Bcl-2 gene expression ratio. Co-administration of CoQ10 resulted in significant improvement in the histopathological picture, with a significant decrease in caspase-3 and iNOS immunoexpression and downregulation of the Bax/Bcl-2 gene expression ratio. In conclusion, CoQ10 protects against Dox-induced cardiotoxicity through the regulation of proapoptotic and anti-apoptotic gene expression.Drug development can be costly, and the availability of clinical trial participants may be limited either due to the disease setting (rare or pediatric diseases) or due to many sponsors evaluating multiple drugs or combinations in the same patient population. To maximize resource utilization, sponsors may leverage patient-level control data from historical trials. However, in a study with no control arm, it is impossible to evaluate if the historical controls are an appropriate comparator for the current study. Here, instead of conducting a single-arm trial and relying solely on historical controls, we evaluate the situation where a minimal number of patients are enrolled into a control arm, which is augmented by borrowing historical control data. Propensity score (PS) methods are commonly used to minimize bias for non-randomized data. In addition, Bayesian information borrowing with PS adjustments has been proposed when it may not be reasonable to include all available historical data. This paper proposes using PS adjustment integrated with Bayesian commensurate priors to adaptively borrow information. We then evaluate the performance of different PS adjustment methods and different Bayesian priors for augmented control using simulation studies to help inform the design of future trials. In general, we find that propensity weighting or matching combined with the commensurate prior yield reasonable statistical properties across a range of scenarios. Finally, our proposed methods are applied to a real trial with a binary outcome.Abbreviations PS propensity score; IPTW inverse probability of treatment weighting; ATT average treatment effect on those who received treatment; RCT randomized controlled trial; CDD covariate distribution difference; ESS effective sample size. This study verified typing performance on smartphones of public transportation passengers using subjective assessments of comfort and difficulty and objective assessments of the number of errors and typing speed. Three frequency values (5, 10, and 15 Hz), two magnitudes (0.6 and 1.2 m/s2) and two types of operating systems (Android and IOS) were adopted. Tests without vibration were applied to analyse the residual effect of vibration. The results showed that vibration significantly influences comfort. The higher the frequency, the less errors and the faster the typing speed. In the magnitude analysis, the increase caused a greater number of errors and greater difficulty. In both assessments, the discomfort was proportional to the increase in frequency or magnitude and the number of errors was inversely proportional to the typing speed. Finally, the IOS operating system showed worse comfort when compared to Android, although no significant differences were observed for the objective assessment. Practitioner summary Public transportation passengers are exposed to WBV while typing on smartphones. The results showed that vibration influences comfort, the number of errors and the typing speed. Therefore, manufacturers should be aware of the level of vibration that vehicles are exposed to in order to provide more performance to the user. Abbreviations WBV whole-body vibration; PID proportional-integral-derivative; RMS root mean square; HLM hierarchical linear modeling; OLS ordinary least squares; STH seat-to-head.
