The changes in biochemical markers were associated with development of an age-related cardiomyopathy during the 17-month follow-up indicated by increased heart weight body weight ratio, progressive decline in cardiac function, and premature death. RIC increased cardiac ATG5 and rescued some of the Atg5 knockdown-induced cardiomyopathy phenotype and associated morphological remodeling. We conclude that cardiac-specific Atg5 knockdown leads to the development of age-related cardiomyopathy. RIC reverses the molecular and structural phenotype when administered both acutely and chronically.

Policies to combat the COVID-19 pandemic have disrupted the screening, diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of noncommunicable (NCD) patients while affecting NCD prevention and risk factor control.

To discuss how the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic affected the health management of NCD patients, identify which aspects should be carried forward into future NCD management, and propose collaborative efforts among public-private institutions to effectively shape NCD care models.

The NCD Partnership, a collaboration between Upjohn and the European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing, held a virtual Advisory Board in July 2020 with multiple stakeholders; healthcare professionals (HCPs), policymakers, researchers, patient and informal carer advocacy groups, patient empowerment organizations, and industry experts.

The Advisory Board identified barriers to NCD care during the COVID-19 pandemic in four areas lack of NCD management guidelines; disruption to integrated care and shift from hospsocial care restructuring, and patient support in the short-, medium- and long-term future. A comprehensive response to NCDs should be delivered to improve patient outcomes by providing strategic, scientific, and economic support.

Despite the proven benefits of vaccine prevention and the continuous development of this important public health measure, vaccine hesitancy is among the top ten threats to global health according to the World Health Organization in 2019. Those who contract the influenza virus will typically develop a mild illness. However, for populations at a higher risk, including those diagnosed with dementia, influenza is proven to be more detrimental. Persons with dementia (PWD) face a serious threat to influenza on an annual basis, and vaccine hesitancy may further potentiate this risk. The purpose of this paper is to explore and understand the barriers PWD face in receiving the influenza vaccine.

A literature review was conducted to examine the barriers that prevent PWD from seeking out the annual influenza vaccine. A thematic analysis provided an understanding of the overarching relationships found among the influences between the identified themes.

Three main influences were identified (1) intra-personal, (2) inter-personal, and (3) extra-personal, with each influence containing several subsequent sub-themes.

The literature review found that there is a lack of research involving this high-risk population and the barriers they face, especially within the extra-personal influences. Further research is required to understand how each barrier relates and connects with each other. Understanding this connection will aid public health organizations in decreasing the threat of vaccine hesitancy, thus decreasing the incidents of preventable deaths.

Treatment for COVID-19 is still urgent need for the critically ill and severe cases. UC-MSC administration has a therapeutic benefit for severe COVID-19 patients even in the recovery period. In this paper, we aimed to present our clinical experience with UC-MSC treatment in severe and critical severe COVID-19 patients.

In this study we evaluated the clinical outcome of severe/critically severe 210 COVID-19 patients treated with UC-MSCs, 1-2 × 10

per kilogram to 210 patients from 15/10/2020 until 25/04/2021.

Out of 99 critically severe intubated patients we have observed good clinical progress/discharged from ICU in 52 (52.5%) patients. To determine the prevalence, factors associated with and patterns of concomitant Chinese medicine (CM) with Western treatment use among patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in a tertiary referral centre (Singapore General Hospital) in Singapore.

We conducted a cross-sectional interviewer-administered survey of a consecutive sample of patients with RA in Singapore General Hospital centre regarding their CM use including data on patient demographics, disease characteristics, concomitant use of CM and reasons, concerns and disclosure patterns from March to August 2015. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to determine the associations of CM use.

To explore the effect of electro-acupuncture (EA) on glucose and lipid metabolism in unmarried patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

Fifty-four PCOS patients were equally randomized into true acupuncture group and sham acupuncture group (control) for totally 16 weeks of treatment by random method with a computerized randomization program. Patients in true acupuncture group accepted traditional acupuncture methods with EA and two sets of acupoint groups were used alternatively. The first set consisted of Zhongji (CV 3), Qihai (CV 6), Guilai (ST 29), Sanyinjiao (SP 6), Yinlingquan (SP 9), Hegu (LI4) and Baihui (GV 20), and the second set consisted of Tianshu (ST 25), ST 29, CV 3, CV 6, SP 6, Taichong (LR 3), Neiguan (PC) 6 and GV 20. Patients in the sham acupuncture group accepted shallow acupuncture methods through EA without electricity at 4 non-meridian points in each shoulder and upper arm. Outcome measures included body mass index (BMI), waist-hip-ratio (WHR), oral glucose tolerance test (OGT acupuncture may be not completely ineffective. To determine the effect of Zanthoxylum piperitum extracet (ZPE) on apoptosis and analyze anticancer substances in ZPE, changes in proteins related to apoptosis, and pathological changes in tumors in mouse.

Fifteen 4-week-old female BALB/c nu/nu mice were divided into 3 groups depending on ZPE dose, with 5 in each group. AGS gastric carcinoma cells (1 × 10

cells/200 µL) were subcutaneously injected into the flank of each mouse. One week after the injection of AGS cells, ZPE was administered to the skin tissue [10 or 50 mg/(kg·d)] in the low- and high-dose groups, respectively for 20 days.
