Background Gadolinium enhancement on high resolution magnetic resonance imaging (HR-MRI) has been considered a sign of instability and inflammation of intracranial atherosclerotic plaques. Our research objective was to explore the relationship between the extent of plaque enhancement (PE), the degree of intracranial artery stenosis, and acute ischemic stroke events. Methods HR-MRI was performed in 91 patients with intracranial vascular stenosis to determine the existence and intensity of PE.Results Among 91 patients enrolled in the trial, there were 43 patients in the acute/subacute group (≤1 month from ischemic stroke event), 15 patients in the chronic group (>1 month from ischemic stroke event), and 33 patients in the non-culprit plaques group (no ischemic stroke event). A total of 105 intracranial atherosclerotic plaques were detected in 91 patients. 14 (13.3%) were mild-stenosis plaques, 22 (21.0%) were moderate-stenosis plaques, and 69 (65.7%) were severe-stenosis plaques. There were 12 (11.4%), 18 (17.1%it plaques, and non-enhanced plaques were more often observed in non-culprit plaques. Moreover, significant plaque enhancement and severe ICAS were closely associated with acute ischemic events. As a bioactive extract from tea leaves, tea polyphenols (TP) are safe and natural. Its excellent antioxidant and antibacterial properties are increasingly regarded as a good additive for improving degradable food packaging film properties. This article comprehensively reviewed the functional properties of active films containing TP developed recently. The effects of TP addition to enhancing active food packaging films' performance, including thickness, water sensitivity, barrier properties, color, mechanical properties, antioxidant, antibacterial, and intelligent discoloration properties, were discussed. Besides, the practical applications in food preservation of active films containing TP are also discussed. This work concluded that the addition of TP could impart antioxidant and antibacterial properties to active packaging films and act as a crosslinking agent to improve other physical and chemical properties of the film, such as mechanical and barrier properties. However, the effect of TP on specific properties of the active packaging film is complex, and the appropriate TP concentration needs to be selected according to the type of film matrix and the interaction between the components. Notably, the addition of TP improved the efficiency of the active packaging film in food preservation applications, which accelerates the process of replacing the traditional plastic-based food packaging with active packaging film.We performed a meta-analysis to fully investigate the hypertension of anti-VEGF mAbs in cancer patients. Databases were searched for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) treated with anti-VEGF mAbs till January 2021. The relevant RCTs in cancer patients treated with anti-VEGF mAbs were retrieved and the systematic evaluation was conducted. One hundred and five RCTs and 65358 patients were included. Our study suggests that anti-VEGF mAbs significantly increased the risks of all-grade (RR, 3.22; 95%CI, 2.83-3.65; p  less then  0.00001; I2=71%) and high-grade (RR, 6.15; 95%CI, 5.58-6.78; p  less then  0.00001; I2=48%) hypertension in cancer patients. Those risks may be dependent on drug type. Icrucumab did not association with an increased risk of hypertension. The RR of hypertension did not vary significantly according to the type of cancer, line of therapy, and treatment duration. The available data suggested that the use of anti-VEGF mAbs were associated with a significantly increased risk of hypertension. Objectives There is an urgent need to expand the geriatrics workforce. By providing volunteers meaningful experiences with older adults, we hoped to stimulate interest in geriatrics.Design Electronic mixed methods survey of volunteers from April 2018-October 2019Setting Academic medical centerParticipants 32 volunteersMeasurements We conducted a mixed methods survey of volunteers to understand their experiences in the program, in part using a Likert scale. Two coders independently compared themes to ensure consensus. Results Thirty-six percent (n = 32) completed surveys; 69% (n = 22) were women; most (59%) were first in their family to work in healthcare, and 81% (n = 26) had prior healthcare experience. Volunteers found patients to be engaging, and recognized that older adults need attention. Almost half (47%, n = 15) expressed interest in working with older adults before starting the program, which increased to 63% (n = 20) after the program. Most volunteers (n = 30, 94%) answered 'definitely yes' or 'probably yes' for feeling appreciated by patients, and 88% (n = 28) felt appreciated by patients' families. Conclusion A volunteer program pairing companions with older age inpatients increased interest and appreciation for older adults. While additional research should examine whether such experiences influence career choices, this intervention proposes an innovative pipeline to increase the geriatrics workforce. The presence of 3-monochloropropane-1,2-diol (3-MCPD) esters and 2-MCPD esters in infant formulas have raised a number of food safety concerns. Here, a dietary exposure assessment was conducted for 3-and 2-MCPD esters in infant formulas available for consumption in Chinese infant and toddlers aged 0-3 years old. This work presents the occurrence data for 3-and 2-MCPD ester in 874 infant formulas purchased in China between 2015 and 2017. The concentrations of 3-MCPD esters ranged from ND to 1.469 mg/kg, with concentrations of 2-MCPD esters ranging from ND to 0.218 mg/kg. The LODs of 3-and 2-MCPD esters were 0.027-0.074 mg/kg. The mean exposures of infants and toddlers to 3-MCPD esters from formulas were lower than the tolerable daily intake (TDI, 2 μg/kg bw/day, established by EFSA), while high exposures (95th percentile) to 3-MCPD esters ranged from 0.907 to 2.520 μg/kg bw/day. On the whole, the health risk of Chinese infant and toddlers exposed to 3-MCPD esters was low, but the health risk of some infants aged 0-6 months with high formula consumption (95th percentile) raises some concern.Purpose Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) is fundamental to speech-language pathology practice. Australian speech-language pathologists (SLPs) who treat communication disorders in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) face unique challenges in implementing EBP. Challenges may include selecting an intervention from a myriad of available interventions for use within a complex population. Identification of current practices of Australian SLPs in communication service provision to children with ASD will provide a baseline for use of EBP and may guide future efforts to engage in EBP. Method A total of 109 Australian SLPs who provide communication services to children with ASD completed an online survey. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyse service delivery and participant experiences of EBP. Result The most common barrier to delivering EBP was inadequate resources. The most utilised strategy was discussing evidence with colleagues. Most participants reported using therapies which did not adhere to a standard protocol, such as eclectic approaches. The majority also reported use of outcome measures which they believe adequately represent functional communication changes for their client. Conclusion Resource limitations may result in over-reliance on interventions lacking empirical support and over-reliance on subjective outcome measurement tools. Reflective practice and self-evaluation of communication services to children with ASD may support improved provision of EBP.The neoadjuvant chemotherapy plays an important role in locally advanced gastric cancer, but its efficacy, safety profiles and clinical outcomes among different regimens still remain controversial. In this study, totally 231 eligible patients with locally advanced gastric cancer were enrolled. Epacadostat These patients were divided into the observation group (SOX regimen, n = 123) and control group (mFOLFOX6 regimen, n = 108) according to different chemotherapy regimens. Then, the differences in chemotherapy efficacy, adverse reactions, surgical characteristics, complications and survival condition were compared. No significant differences were observed in clinical efficacy of chemotherapy, the rate of D2 lymph node clearance, R0 resection, complications, responses of neoadjuvant chemotherapy and survival condition between two groups (P > 0.05). The incidence of abdominal pain, diarrhoea, nausea and vomiting in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group (16.26% vs 29.63%, χ2 = 5.893, P  less then  0.05; 11.38% vs 26.85%, χ2 = 9.084, P  less then  0.05; 35.77% vs 53.70%, χ2 = 7.499, P  less then  0.05). The SOX regimen and mFOLFOX6 regimen have similar chemotherapy efficacy for locally advanced gastric cancer, but SOX regimen has a lower risk of gastrointestinal adverse reactions comparing with mFOLFOX6 regimen. This study describes the synthesis and vacuole-inducing activity of 5-((4-(pyridin-3-yl)pyrimidin-2-yl)amino)-1H-indole-2-carbohydrazide derivatives, including five potent derivatives 12c, 12 g, 12i, 12n, and 12A that exhibit excellent vacuole-inducing activity. Remarkably, 12A effectively induces methuosis in tested cancer cells but not human normal cells. In addition, 12A exhibits high pan-cytotoxicity against different cancer cell lines but is hardly toxic to normal cells. It is found that the 12A-induced vacuoles are derived from macropinosomes but not autophagosomes. The 12A-induced cytoplasmic vacuoles may originate from the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and be accompanied by ER stress. The MAPK/JNK signalling pathway is involved in the 12A-induced methuotic cell death. Moreover, 12A exhibits significant inhibition of tumour growth in the MDA-MB-231 xenograft mouse model. The excellent potency and selectivity of 12A prompt us to select it as a good lead compound for further development of methuosis inducers and investigation of the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying methuosis. In last decades, a phenomenon named nutrition transition has been observed in many countries around the world. It has been characterised by increased consumption of fat-rich diets, predisposing to cardiometabolic diseases and high prevalence of the obesity. In the dietary recommendations cited to prevent metabolic diseases, there is a consensus to decrease intake of saturated fatty acids (SFA) to less than 10% of total energy intake, as recommended by the Food Safety Authorities. However, fatty acids of different chain lengths may exhibit different cardiometabolic effects. Thus, our major aim was to review the cardiometabolic effects of different classes of SFA according to carbon chain length, i.e. short-, medium- and long-chains. The review emphasises that not all SFA may have harmful cardiometabolic effects since short- and medium-chain SFA can provide beneficial health effects and participate to the prevention of metabolic disorders.Quetiapine is one of the most commonly prescribed antipsychotics to treat schizophrenia in adults, in particular. In this study, quetiapine's effects were assessed on healthy sperm production in rats at repeated-pharmacological doses. Additionally, the effects of quetiapine on oxidative status and hormonal balance were also evaluated in rats. Quetiapine was administered to rats orally at 10, 20, and 40 mg/kg body weight doses for 28 days. At the end of this period, body and organ weights were measured, sperm concentration, motility, and morphology were determined, sperm damage was assessed, and histopathological analysis of testicular tissue was performed. Additionally, serum FSH, LH, and testosterone levels as male reproductive hormones were measured. Catalase, superoxide dismutase, glutathione, and malondialdehyde levels were determined for evaluating the oxidative status of testicular tissue. The findings obtained in this study showed that relative epididymis weights and sperm concentration decreased and abnormal sperm morphology increased in quetiapine-administered rats.
