This study meta-analyzed the literature on possible association of 3 polymorphisms (-592, -1082, -819) in the interleukin-10 (IL-10) gene with susceptibility to human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-1 infection.

PubMed, EMBASE, MEDLINE and Google Scholar were systematically searched to identify relevant studies in English. Meta-analyses were performed to examine the association of IL-10 polymorphisms -592, -1082, and -819 with susceptibility to HIV-1 infection.

A significant association between the -592 polymorphism and susceptibility to HIV-1 infection was found in the total population (recessive model, odds ratios (OR) = 1.44, 95% CI = 1.06-1.96, P = .02; homozygous model, OR = 1.44, 95% CI = 1.02-2.02, P = .04). selleck kinase inhibitor However, these results were not observed in subgroups based on ethnicity. The -1082 polymorphism was significantly associated with susceptibility to HIV-1 infection in Caucasians (OR = 1.30, 95% CI = 1.05-1.62, P = .02; recessive model, OR = 1.49, 95% CI = 1.09-2.03, P = .01; homozygous model, OR = 1.58, 95% CI = 1.01-2.46, P = .04), but not in Asians or the total population. None of the 5 genetic models suggested a significant association between the -819 polymorphism and HIV-1 infection.

The available evidence indicates that the AA genotype of IL-10 -592 may confer increased susceptibility to HIV-1 infection, and that the AA genotype of -1082 may confer increased susceptibility in Caucasians. In contrast, the -819 polymorphism may not be associated with HIV-1 infection risk. These conclusions should be verified in large, well-designed studies.

The demographic and clinical data, investigations, treatments, and short-term outcomes were collected and retrospectively analyzed.The mean age of the 54 AFM patients was 34 ± 16.5 years old (range 13-70 years), including 24 (44.5%) men and 30 (55.5%) women, with a high incidence in 2 age groups 13-19 and 40-49 years old, despite an inverse trend to the increase of age. All these cases were admitted in emergency conditions 26 (48.1%) cardiogenic shock, 18 (33.4%) malignant arrhythmias, 8 (14.8%) severe heart failure, and 2 (3.7%) acute pericardial tamponade. Anthropometric, potential laboratory parameters and abdominal ultrasound were performed at baseline and after a 5-year follow-up. Cox proportional hazards model was used to determine predictors for NAFLD onset. The effects of lipids, age, body mass index (BMI), and serum uric acid (UA) on NAFLD were evaluated with the use of Kaplan-Meier curves (log-rank test). A nomogram was developed based on the Cox proportional hazard model and a 2-piecewise linear regression model. The accuracy of model was evaluated according to the area under the receiver operating characteristic curves.A total of 1545 subjects were included in the final analysis. The mean follow-up time was 52 ± 6.6 months. Of the total subjects, 77.61% were male and 22.39% were female. The mean age at the time of initial visit was 45.21 ± 11.20 years. Five hundred fifty-five subjects (35.92% of all subjects) were finally diagnosed with NAFLD. Variables in the nomogram included age, BMI, triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein, low-density lipoprotein, and UA. The accuracy of the nomogram for predicting 5-year cumulative occurrence of NAFLD was 0.8135 (95% confidence interval 0.7921-0.8349), and the sensitivity and specificity were 0.8108 and 0.6960, respectively.The combination of age, BMI, triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein, low-density lipoprotein, and UA translated into a nomogram can reliably estimate the incidence of NAFLD within 5 years. It may serve as a decision support tool to determine whether to intervene at an early stage.

There is increasing evidence that microRNAs (miRNAs) play an important role in the development of neuropathic pain.In this study, the TaqMan Low Density Array (TLDA) was used to analyze the serum miRNA levels of 28 TN patients, and 31 healthy people without any neuropathic pain were used as controls.The results showed that the expression profile of serum miRNA in TN patients was different from that in healthy controls. Compared with the control group, 13 miRNAs in the serum of TN patients were up-regulated and 115 miRNAs were down-regulated by >2 times. Quantitative reverse transcription PCR (RT-qPCR) analysis and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve were performed. The analysis further confirmed that the expression levels of 4 miRNAs, including miR-132-3p, miR-146b-5p, miR-155-5p, and miR-384, were significantly higher than those of healthy controls, and the difference was statistically significant.This study preliminarily confirmed the changes of serum miRNA expression profile in TN patients. We then prospectively examined the effects of long-term atropine treatment on IOP.Our case series collected 186 myopic children who were younger than 16 years of age. Complete ocular examination data, IOP and refractive status measurements beginning in 2008 were collected for all participants. Participants were divided into two groups 121 children who received atropine therapy at various concentrations were classified as the treated group, whereas 65 children who did not receive atropine therapy were classified as the untreated (reference) group. In the treated group, clinicians prescribed different concentrations of atropine eye drops according to their discretion with regard to the severity of myopia on each visit of the patient. We then calculated the cumulative dosn of myopia. The treatment effects are not correlated with the cumulative atropine dosages.

Rotator cuff tendinitis is a highly prevalent cause of shoulder pain and leads to decreased patient quality of life. Extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) and ultrasound-guided needling are considered beneficial for rotator cuff tendinitis. link3 A systematic review and meta-analysis comparing ESWT with sham-ESWT or ultrasound-guided needling in the management of pain and calcification is lacking.

We will search the following up database from its inception to August 2020 without language restriction PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, EMBASE, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, China Biomedical Literature Database, Chinese Science Journal Database, and WangFang database. All randomized controlled trials compared the effect of ESWT and sham-ESWT or ultrasound-guided needling of rotator cuff tendinitis will be included in pain and calcification. Two researchers will operate literature retrieval, screening, information extraction, quality assessment, and data analysis independently. The analysis will be conducted using Review Manager 5.3 Software.

The findings will be submitted to a peer-reviewed publication.

This systematic review and meta-analysis will provide high-quality evidence for the treatment of patients with rotator cuff tendinitis.

Olfactory neuroblastoma (ONB) is a rare malignant tumor of the nasal cavity, the primary local symptoms are usually inconspicuous. Patients are often admitted to various specialties based on different primary symptoms, which may result in delayed diagnosis and even a misdiagnosis.

Here we report a case of ONB that presented initially as multiple ostealgia without any local symptoms of the tumor and primarily misdiagnosed as multiple myeloma. The patient was a 47-year-old female with bone pain at multiple sites. The initial diagnosis was considered as multiple myeloma. However, the morphologic examination of bone marrow suggested that the tumor cells originated from the nervous tissues. After the positron emission computed tomography scan, the primary lesion in the nasal cavity was located, and a biopsy was performed.

The final diagnosis of ONB was confirmed by histopathological tests.

The patient was treated with metronomic chemotherapy.

The symptoms of bone pain were significantly relieved 3 months later.
